With a heavy dash of Derek Jeter playing his final All-Star Game, the Summer Classic proved to be a boon for FOX, generating a 7.0 fast-national household rating, with an average audience of 11.34 million. That marks the highest-rated, most-watched All-Star Game since 2010, according to Nielsen, and first time that the MLB All-Star Game has posted ratings increases in consecutive years since 1993 and 1994. Host city Minneapolis/St. Paul led all markets with a 16.6 rating, followed by Detroit at a 15.1, then St. Louis (14.3); Pittsburgh (12.4); and Milwaukee (12.0).

While we are talking baseball, ESPN reports that, through 42 games, the network’s 25th Major League Baseball season is seeing double-digit viewership and ratings growth, averaging 1,242,000 viewers for an 11% gain over 2013. In addition, according to Nielsen, ESPN is averaging a 0.9 U.S. household rating, up 13%. Sunday Night Baseball continues to lead the way, averaging 1,983,000 viewers and a 1.3 rating, up 9% and 8% respectively.
One month out from the 2014-15 Premier League season, NBC Sports Group announced the TV slate for the first three months of the season, which will offer live coverage of all 130 matches starting Aug. 16 at 7:45a on NBCSN with Manchester United/Swansea City. A total of 68 Premier League matches will be presented on NBCSN, NBC and CNBC with all games preceded and followed by Premier League Live pre- and post-match shows. In addition, 47 will be shown on Telemundo and mun2. All 130 Matches in First 3 Months Available on NBC Sports Live Extra.
NBA TV’s coverage of Samsung NBA Summer League 2014 from Las Vegas is averaging 136,000 total viewers and 115,000 household impressions through 12 games, for spikes of 39% and 26% respectively to date over last year. NBA TV’s first game from Las Vegas featuring the Bucks/Cavaliers delivered an average of 197,000 total viewers to become the second-most viewed NBA Summer League telecast of all time.
The National Telco Television Consortium locked in a multi-year distribution deal with The Walt Disney Company to deliver Disney’s lineup of sports, news and entertainment content to NTTC members’ customers across TVs, computers, smartphones, tablets, gaming consoles and connected devices. As part of the deal, the NTTC will introduce several new services, including the full suite of authenticated WATCH products, the upcoming SEC Network, Longhorn Network, ESPN Goal Line, ESPN Buzzer Beater and video-on-demand products.
ESPN also inked a carriage for SEC Network at launch on August 14, 2014 by three independent cable operators: LUS Fiber, Wilkes Telephone and PTC Communications. “The demand for the SEC Network is coming from all levels of operators,” said Sean Breen, Disney and ESPN Media Networks senior vice president, affiliate sales. “With these latest agreements with LUS Fiber, Wilkes Telephone and PTC Communications, we continue to grow our distribution footprint both in SEC territories and nationwide so that fans will be able to access the network’s quality content and services in time for launch on August 14.”
NBC and WWE will ring up WrestleMania for network television on Sunday, Aug. 3 at 7p with WrestleMania 30: The World Television Premiere on NBC. For the sixth year in a row, this special will relive moments celebrating 30 years of the event. The one-hour broadcast will feature the likes of Hulk Hogan, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin and The Rock and matches from the April 6 event.

ESPN today announced a slate of four SEC Storied documentaries to kick off the SEC Network. The films were revealed at SEC Media Days in Birmingham and will cover the iconic trio of Charles Barkley, Bo Jackson and Frank Thomas at Auburn University in the 1980s, South Carolina head football coach Steve Spurrier and his history with the conference, the tragic story of Ole Miss defensive back Chucky Mullins and Vanderbilt running back Brad Gaines, and the devotion of 14 famous SEC fans. The first will air on Aug. 14 a 9p.
FOX Sports follows up on the World Cup with 14 telecasts slated over 21 days between July 23 and Aug. 12 across FOX, FOX Sports 1, FOX Sports 2, FOX Deportes and FOX Sports GO. The action kicks off with a preseason friendly between the LA Galaxy and Manchester United. Rob Stone calls the action on-site alongside analysts Eric Wynalda and Warren Barton and sideline reporter Julie Stewart-Binks at 11p on July 23 on FOX Sports 1. Other matches include the second annual Guinness International Champions Cup on July 24 at 7:30p featuring eight teams in the tournament including AC Milan, AS Roma, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Inter Milan, Olympiakos and UEFA Champions League winners Real Madrid.
The Carolina Panthers and Time Warner Cable SportsChannel locked in a multi-year programming agreement that makes TWC SportsChannel the exclusive local cable TV home of the franchise. Beginning this month, the Panthers will produce over 250 hours of programming annually for TWC SportsChannel that will air throughout the Carolinas on Time Warner Cable, including pre-season NFL games.

ESPN is bringing back its My Wish series for the ninth year starting July 20 and in partnership with Make-A-Wish. Once again hosted by Chris Connelly, each wish will be the subject of a SportsCenter segment beginning at 10a on Sunday with the others debuting on each weekday’s 6p edition. Taking part in this season’s wishes will be Cam Newton, Dustin Pedroia, University of Michigan football, and Gabby Douglas.
Samsung released the second and final episode of its Galaxy 11 global marketing campaign, with Galaxy 11: The Match Part 2. The six-minute video wraps up the journey of 13 soccer players who play for the fate of the world. Over the past ten months, the campaign videos have seen over 150 million fan views as well as more than 4.3 million engagements via social media. In addition, the Galaxy 11-themed mobile game The Match: Striker Soccer G11 has now been downloaded more than 1.5 million times
CBS Sports Radio launched a live online video simulcast of its weekday national morning show broadcast hosted by Tiki Barber, Brandon Tierney, and Dana Jacobson. Audiences will now be able to watch the trio a variety of mobile and tablet devices at www.watchtbd.com. A replay of the show will run continuously throughout the day. “We are excited to launch yet another way to expose our programming to audiences nationwide,” said Eric Spitz, Director of Programming, CBS Sports Radio. “Tiki, Brandon and Dana prove every day to be dynamic and passionate sports hosts, and providing additional access to the show follows the trend of listeners spending more time with the program.”
Yesterday saw Conde Nast launch its new premium video destination http://www.thescene.com, which featured MLS content as one of the launch partners. The league began its run with an MLS Insider feature on Clint Dempsey on the home page with content featured alongside Conde Nast’s and other selected partners including ABC News and Buzz Feed.
Volar Video announced the formation of an alliance between iHigh.com, the high school digital network, and Sporting News Media to launch TEAM 1 SPORTS Network, the new digital destination for all amateur athletics. The platform launches July 15 at TEAM1SPORTS.com as a user-generated platform to showcase amateur sports organizations and athletes to the world.
Christina Miller has been named President and General Manager for the Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. networks Cartoon Network, Adult Swim and Boomerang, as well as their digital brand extensions, including Cartoon Network.com and Adult Swim.com.
