NEW PROGRAMMING + DEALS

 
As announced at this year’s NewFronts, Crackle’s next original series Sequestered will premiere on Aug. 5. The series features stars Jesse Bradford (Bring It On), Summer Glau (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles) and Patrick Warburton (Rules of Engagement) in a story about a jury isolated in a hotel while deliberating a high-profile murder case. After the first six episodes hit next month, the final six will roll out Oct. 14.
 
Yahoo acquired Israel-based mobile-video streaming tech company RayV. “This deal demonstrated our dedication to accelerating our video strategy and boosting our underlying infrastructure in the space,” Yahoo’s VP of cloud platforms and services P.P.S Narayan told Variety. The 11 employees of RayV will join Yahoo in Tel Aviv.
 
As the Tour de France kicks off, online video service Pluto.TV launched a new channel on Friday specifically for tournament fans. The channel includes shows on the Tour’s famous and up-and-coming cyclists, a review of the favorites expected to win and a preview of the 21 stages of the tour. Clips that make up the half-hour shows are compiled from YouTube, Vimeo, Dailymotion, ESPN, the Global Cycling Network and more. The channel is available at pluto.tv.

Amazon Studios is stealing a page from Netflix’s playbook and releasing all 10 episodes of dark comedy Transparent at the same time, in late September on Amazon Prime. “I don’t think of it as binging,” Joe Lewis, head of original programming, said at TCA. “I just think of it as a five-hour movie.” No decision yet on delivery models for returning comedy Alpha House, bowing in October, December’s Mozart in the Jungle or Bosch early next year. The After will go the weekly route in early 2015.

CONTENT MEDIA
 

Comedy Central’s South Park has joined the Hulu roster on an exclusive basis, the streaming service announced at the Television Critics Association summer press tour over the weekend. Additionally, Hulu renewed the original latino series East Los High for a second season. Original parody The Hotwives of Orlando will be available on July 15, and season two of comedy Quick Draw makes its appearance on Aug. 7.
 
FX Networks gave Xbox One and Xbox 360 users a sneak peek of its new 13-ep drama The Strain over the weekend. A scene from the pilot episode, photos, art, a fan Q&A with director Guillermo del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth) and behind-the- scenes videos were made available to view before it premiered last night on the network. The Strain is based on the best-selling vampire novel trilogy of the same title, written by del Toro and author Chuck Hogan.
 
Yahoo’s latest partner Live Nation announced the initial lineup for the new concert series on Yahoo Screen starting tomorrow. The Dave Matthews Band will kick things off, followed by One Republic, John Legend, KISS and more concerts made available every day for the next year. The series can be streamed at yahoo.com/live.
 
Vevo and McDonalds are teaming up again for the annual LIFT Live concert in Chicago on July 30, available across the music platform in August. The show will include performances from artists like Disclosure, Sam Smith, Phantogram and Kiesza. LIFT programming has earned more than 100 million views since launching in 2011.

Twitter is looking to reel in more brand advertising dollars by telling clients they can hit an audience size equal to 30 percent of their followers in any given week, with the right Twitter approach. Adweek reports Twitter is now sharing analytics showing how many people actually see and click on marketing messages posted frequently on the social network. Twitter’s strategy differs from Facebook’s, which requires brands to pay to be seen by more than five percent of their fans on the site. Twitter gave examples: Wheat Thins reaches an audience of 95 percent of its 161,000 followers, and Trident Gum tweets to an audience five times the size of their followers on a weekly basis.
