FOX News has suspended its contract with former Republican Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich over speculation that he could be Donald Trump’s vice presidential choice. Gingrich has been a political commentator for the cable network since last fall. Trump, the presumptive GOP presidential nominee, is expected to announce his pick on Friday. “We felt it best to halt his contributor role on the network to avoid all conflicts of interest that may arise,” said Jay Wallace, Fox News’ EVP of news.
CBS News’ multi-platform coverage of The 2016 Republican and Democratic National Conventions includes Scott Pelley, Charlie Rose, Norah O’Donnell, Gayle King and John Dickerson reporting from the convention floors; CBSN’s live stream, anchored by Josh Elliott, Elaine Quijano and Vladimir Duthiers, will be available on CBS News digital platforms.
On-location filming in greater Los Angeles is up 5.8 percent in the second quarter of 2016 compared to the same time period last year, according to FilmLA, the city’s film office. The group attributed much of the growth to California’s new $330 million film incentives program. In total, there were 9,937 on-location film and TV shoot days in the city between April and June.
WGN America’s Underground has teamed with the 107th NAACP Annual Convention, July 17 to 18 in Cincinnati, Ohio. The show’s creators, writers and executive producers Misha Green and Joe Pokaski, and stars Aldis Hodge, Alano Miller and Amirah Vann, will co-host NAACP President and CEO Cornell William Brooks’ reception for more than 1,500 NAACP convention delegates, where the cast will be featured speakers at the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center on Monday, July 18.

Logo ordered dating series Finding Prince Charming, featuring a cast of gay men who will compete to win the heart of an eligible gay heartthrob. Lance Bass will host the show, from Brian Graden Media, currently in production to debut this fall.
FOX has issued a put-pilot commitment for an X-Men action-adventure series from writer Matt Nix. The untitled project focuses on two ordinary parents who discover their children possess mutant powers.
Max Lewkowicz and his Dog Green Productions have acquired the rights to Irving Berlin’s life and music to develop into a scripted series. The agreement was reached with the Berlin family and the Irving Berlin Music Company. Lewkowicz, Dog Green’s Valerie Thomas, and Elena Berger Melman will produce the project, which is not attached to a network.
Nat Geo announced the creative team that will helm Explorer, when the reimagined format returns this fall. Lou Wallach, formerly of The Colbert Report and The Talking Dead, will serve as EP. He’ll be joined by EP and showrunners Nick McKinney and Meghan O’Hara, industry vets who co-created The IFC Media Project.
HGTV has picked up a second season of Flipping Virgins, to premiere in January 2017. The series features property expert Egypt Sherrod helping house-flipping novices navigate the unexpected realities of purchasing, renovating and selling a home for profit.
Jennifer Cecil, EP of ABC’s Notorious, has signed a two-year overall deal with Sony TV. Under the pact, she will continue working on Notorious, while developing new projects.
The life of John F. Kennedy Jr. is explored in I Am JFK Jr., bowing Monday, August 1 at 9p on Spike TV. The doc offers a look at JFK Jr.’s life in and out of the spotlight via the people who knew him best, from A-list celebrities to staffers who worked closely with him at George magazine.
Telemundo exposes exploitative child labor practices on coffee plantations in Chiapas, Mexico in Cosecha de Miseria, debuting Saturday, July 16, at 9p. The documentary will also be available the same day on NoticiasTelemundo.com, the Telemundo News App and YouTube channel, as well as weather.com, the website of The Weather Channel.
TiVo Research and Cadent debuted a TV targeting solution for advertisers that enables marketers to reach specific audiences in an anonymous, privacy-protected manner. Using anonymized, single-source data from TiVo Research, Cadent can optimize TV campaigns across networks and dayparts to deliver impressions against a brand’s strategic target. Modi Media is the first client to use the joint offering for its addressable TV campaigns.
Neustar, Inc. has expanded into addressable TV ad targeting and measurement through a partnership with DISH Media Sales. The deal allows marketers to apply Neustar’s real-time consumer data to addressable TV ad buys on DISH and advertisers to measure their addressable advertising efforts across platforms.
Better Things premieres on FX on Thursday, September 8 at 10p. Series centers on Sam Fox (Pamela Adlon), a single, working actor with no filter raising three daughters.
DIY Network’s Raise the Roof debuts Thursday, August 16 at 11p. The seven-episode series follows contractor and real estate investor Keith Nylund and his team as they remove a home’s existing roof and install an additional story to make it a family-friendly option for potential buyers.
The CW’s revival of MADtv will feature some familiar faces, reports TVLine. Nicole Sullivan, who starred in the original series from 1995 to 2001, and Will Sasso (1997 to 2002) will both guest-star on the show’s Tuesday, July 26 debut at 9p. In addition, Bobby Lee (2001 to 2009) will appear in an upcoming episode.
Giles Marini turns up on the Thursday, July 14, episode of Bones. He’ll play Marquis De Chaussin a suspect in the mysterious murder of his wife. Series airs at 8p on Fox.
South African actress Pearl Thusi has been tapped for a series regular role on season 2 of ABC drama Quantico. She’ll play Dayana Mampasi, a driven, disciplined, type-A lawyer.
Bloomberg TV and Twitter have partnered to blend real-time tweets with live streamed video. Twitter will offer Bloomberg’s markets coverage as well as weekday programs, including Bloomberg West, What’d You Miss?, and With All Due Respect.
The PGA of America, Lagardere Sports and Turner Sports have teamed to create The American Captain Presented by Mercedes-Benz, a 12-part digital short-documentary chronicling Davis Love III’s journey as Ryder Cup Captain. The series, which launched yesterday on RyderCup.com, will debut new episodes each Tuesday.
London-based production company, Naked Entertainment has secured its second commission from All 4 to produce Threesome Dating. The new format explores the trend for three-way dating.
FremantleMedia has launched the Ukrainian adaptation of Shortland Street, locally known as Central Hospital. Licensed to 1+1 by FremantleMedia, the series debuted as Ukraine’s #1 show of the day among both total viewers and in the 18 54 commercial target.
UK’s Channel 4 has ordered third and fourth seasons of Catastrophe. The comedy series, which airs on Amazon prime in the U.S., is written by and stars Sharon Horgan and Rob Delaney. Season 3 begins production in November to air in 2017.

ABC’s The Bachelorette was Monday’s most watched show overall (6.8 million) and the night’s #1 TV series in A18-49 for its sixth, straight first-run telecast (1.9/7).
Scripps Networks Interactive celebrated the holiday week of July 4 with year-over-year primetime growth in the P25-54 demo for all six of its networks. For the week in cable, HGTV ranked #2, while Food Network ranked #6. HGTV ratings were up 16 percent for the week, led by the Wednesday season finale of Brother vs. Brother and the Thursday episode of Flip or Flop, which was tied for first in its timeslot. Food Network ratings were up 11 percent for the week, driven by Chopped Junior and Cooks vs. Cons, both enjoying their highest-rated telecasts to date, and Food Network Star which to date has been seen by nearly 30 million P2+ viewers, posted a season-high rating, tying for third in the 9p Sunday timeslot.
Scripps Nets’ other channels all saw healthy year-over-year growth for the week, fueled by the premieres of Food Paradise and Xtreme Waterparks on Travel Channel (up 35 percent), Vanilla Ice Project and Barnwood Builders on DIY Network (up 8 percent), Cake Hunters and Man Fire Food on Cooking Channel (up 9 percent) and Texas Flip and Move on GAC (up 67 percent).
The July 5 series debut of Unearthed on Science Channel at 10p averaged 703,000 Total Viewers in L+3. The episode also delivered a 0.4 rating among Persons 25-54, 48 percent above the net’s premiere average for the year. The episode ranked as Science Channel’s highest rated premiere telecast since March.
Fueled by the fourth season finale of La Voz Kids, Telemundo ranked as the #1 Spanish-language network in Sunday prime with an average of 1,828,000 among total viewers, 753,000 A18-49 and 348,000 A18-34, according to Nielsen. La Voz Kids’ finale was the highest rated primetime program on Spanish-language TV among total viewers (2,293,000), A18-49 (923,000) and A18-34 (424,000).
