NEW PROGRAMMING + DEALS

CBS signed a deal with Netflix to air episodes of thriller Zoo, based on the James Patterson novel. The pact is worth more than the $1 million per episode Amazon is offering CBS for Under the Dome and Extant, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The series includes 13 episodes produced and written by Fringe’s Jeff Pinkner, Life on MarsJames Mangold and others. Netflix will not air Zoo until the network season ends.

Author James Patterson was busy yesterday: Collective Digital Studio plans to produce a YouTube miniseries based on the best-selling young-adult novel Maximum Ride saga by the author. Variety reports CDS is currently talking to YT talent as well as deciding which partner channel will best fit the show. The eight-book franchise, about genetically modified teens that escape a lab facility, has sold more than 30 million copies. Universal Pictures most recently held the rights.

Tribune Digital Ventures acquired TV search and listings provider What’s-ON to further expand its global footprint. What’s-ON provides a guide for TV listings in India, the Middle East, Indonesia and Sri Lanka with more than 1,600 channels and powers more than 57 million set-top boxes in the regions.


CONTENT MEDIA


WE TV released its first original scripted series The Divide on multiple platforms one week prior to its linear premiere on July 16 at 9p ET. Starting yesterday, the network launched the full first episode sneak peek on Roku players, WEtv.com, TV Everywhere platforms and VOD.

Multi-channel network The Whistle Sports Network reached six million subscribers at the end of last month, after adding sports content creators Ball Is Life to the roster. The Whistle is now the most subscribed sports group in North America, with 124 channels, 15,000 videos and 940 million views.

MOBILE GAMING + APPS

Vimeo revamped its video-creation app Cameo with a new music interface and artist discovery platform. “Given the integral role music plays in video, we were excited to focus our first big refresh since joining the Vimeo family last March on the music experience,” Cameo VP Matthew Rosenberg told Cynopsis. As part of the launch, Cameo is spotlighting the artist Bear Hands and its single Giants as the latest addition to its music catalog. Also new are Cameo Badges, which recognize users with “Cameo of the Week” and “Best of Cameo.” Additionally, Vimeo updated its Apple TV app, reducing the number of clicks it takes to watch a video while improving video discovery.

Vevo has redesigned its Android app, featurng a new look and faster HD video. The overhaul also consists of three new 24-hour music video channels for users in North America, as well as new music news feed and improved video discovery tool. It’s available to download on Google Play.

Veri-Site

announced its new Veri-Site Certification program for ad networks and publishers looking to lessen the risk of doing business with rogue websites. Tremor Video is the first ad tech company to be certified by the new network.

Adaptive Media has teamed up with SpotXchange to better provide publishers with programmatic video. SpotXchange reaches more than 335 million unique visitors in more than 100 countries each month, and provides video monetization tech and services for publishers.

EXEC MOVES

International TV series and movies streaming service DramaFever appointment Ross Levinsohn to the company’s Board of Directors. Levinsohn currently sits on the boards of the Tribune Company, Zefr, Inc, Millennial Media and the National Association of Television Program Executives (NATPE).

WWE has brought Laureen Ong onto its Board of Directors. Prior to WWE, Ong was President of the Travel Channel.

Dave Davis has been promoted to CEO for Global Eagle Entertainment. He was previously the CFO and COO at the company.

Blue Ant Media launched a New York sales office yesterday, and hired Jason Cason to lead the east coast office. He was most recently the Director, Partner Development at Machinima. Additionally, Jillian Bove has joined the east coast division as an Account Executive.
