Endemol Beyond and Michelle Phan’s ICON Network signed a content deal with CutePolish, YouTube’s top nail art channel, which has more than 2.4 million subscribers and is about to hit 300 million lifetime views. Creator Sandi Crystal Ball has already partnered with major brands such as Disney, Nintendo, and Sephora.
 
A+E Networks launched its first SVOD service, called Lifetime Movie Cub, for $3.99/month. Subscribers will have access to a library of 30 Lifetime films, updated weekly and without commercial interruption, available exclusively on iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. Why go the sub route? “The decision to launch was based on the overwhelming success we have had in streaming Lifetime movies on an ad-supported basis,” said Dan Suratt, Executive Vice President of digital A+E Networks, tells Cynopsis.

Discovery
’s Shark Week kicked off yesterday with a digital bite. New online are the Sharkopedia shark dictionary, the Finbassador shark expert series and the Daily Shark Feed, delivering news about sharks and their habitats. Shark Week will also dive into a Facebook ten-day countdown, Shark Finbassador Q+A’s, SnapChat stories featuring Chompie Jr. and his adventures, live streaming Meerkat events including a shark feeding at the National Aquarium, and Pinterest shark-inspired party and crafts ideas.
 
Shazam users can now follow artists Pitbull, Calvin Harris, Meghan Trainor, Avicii, Jason Derulo, Coldplay and others to see what they’re checking out on the app. “Our users Shazam over 20 million times each day to discover the music playing around them,” said Shazam CEO Rich Riley. “Now those Shazams [can] transform into an ongoing relationship with artists, giving users a truly unique place to get great music content.”
 
Kin Community, a women’s lifestyle network, launched branded content division Kin Studios. The venture will be co-run by Lauren Merriam, Vice President of Sales and Beth Le Manach, Vice President of Programming; both will lead the content strategy for advertisers while Merriam will continue to supervise the global sales team and Le Manach will direct creative strategy and execution. Jennifer McDonnell, Vice President of Partnerships, will work in conjunction with the studio to manage the network of creators. Current clients include Beiersdorf, P+G, and Wilton.
 
Netflix acquired True and The Rainbow Kingdom, an original series from Guru Studio with Homeplate Entertainment and I am Other. “We are honored that Netflix has entrusted Guru…to push the boundaries of our creative partnership as they continue to build their slate of children’s originals,” said Frank Falcone, President and Creative Director.
 
Noticias Telemundo’s national newscast, Noticiero Telemundo, will air a special Digital Day edition shot on mobile devices today at 6:30p ET. The telecast will mark the first time that a national network produces and airs a newscast shot on mobile tech. Journalists will be equipped with smartphones and tablets to capture and feed their stories. The newscast will be streamed on Periscope and will include behind the scene shots from anchors and reporters during breaks. Social media users can follow the action via the hashtag #NoticieroDigital and the @TelemundoNews account on Twitter, visiting Noticiero Telemundo on Facebook, and going to TelemundoNews on Instagram.
 
Genius Brands International (GBI), a toddlers and tweens content and brand management company, acquired two new animated series for its Comcast Xfinity On Demand channel Kid Genius, set to debut in September 2015. Emmy-winning children’s series Where on Earth is Carmen Sandiego? and Dennis the Menace.
 
British streaming network Acorn TV will premiere comedy the Detectorists in the U.S., which recently won two BAFTAs for “Scripted Comedy” series and “Comedy Writing.” The series stars Mackenzie Crook (Pirates of the Caribbean, Game of Thrones) and Toby Jones (Captain America films).
 
DramaFever added 18 series from the UK. DF will premiere the movies Tess of the D’Urbervilles, Pride and Prejudice and Tiger Mom. The digital video network reaches more than 20 million users a month.

 

EXECUTIVE MOVES

Endemol Shine Group announced that Marina Williams, former CEO of Central and Eastern Europe and MENA regions, has been promoted to COO of International Operations. In her new role, Williams will oversee Endemol Shine Group’s operations across Central and Eastern Europe, India, the Middle East and Africa.
