07/24/19: Budweiser cements deals with the Premier League and LaLiga


Good morning. It’s Wednesday July 24, 2019 and this is your first early morning Sports briefing.

Budweiser brewed up multi-year partnerships with both the Premier League and LaLiga for deals that will see the brand activate across five continents and in more than 20 countries including the United Kingdom, China, South Africa, India, Chile and Nigeria. The King of Beers will launch its global ‘Be A King’ campaign in conjunction with these partnerships with activations that will include limited edition packaging, exclusive viewing parties, broadcast media assets and content partnerships.
“We are excited to kick-off these long-term partnerships with the Premier League and LaLiga, two world-class football competitions. These partnerships will allow us to further connect with key consumers and football fans across the globe,” said Pedro Earp, Chief Marketing Officer at AB InBev. “We are passionate about football, and so are our consumers, so we couldn’t be prouder to celebrate the sport, the players, and most importantly, the fans.”

ESPN continues to shore up its ranks ahead of football season. The company inked former Southern California quarterback and Rose Bowl Game MVP Mark Sanchez to a multi-year deal in an analyst role. Sanchez will be in studio each college football Saturday for ABC, appearing throughout the network’s tripleheaders beginning at noon. He will contribute to other ESPN shows, including College Football Live and Get Up! throughout the season.
Meanwhile, New England Patriots captain Rob Ninkovich is also joining ESPN where he will serve as an NFL analyst. The former linebacker will appear on NFL Live, SportsCenter, ESPN Radio and more throughout the year. Ninkovich will make his ESPN debut on July 27, on SportsCenter on the Road live from Patriots camp.

CBS Sports locked in its SEC ON CBS primetime game for the doubleheader on Sept. 21, showcasing Notre Dame/Georgia at 8p. The first game (3:30p) of the doubleheader will be announced at a later date. Brad Nessler, Gary Danielson and reporter Jamie Erdahl will call the action.
Tennis Channel serves up live coverage of all six US Open Series tournaments leading up to the US Open during the 2019 North American hard-court season where the network will feature men’s ATP, women’s WTA and combined events over the six-week schedule through Aug. 24. The 2019 US Open Series lineup consists of: the BB&T Atlanta Open (Atlanta), Citi Open (Washington, D.C.), Mubadala Silicon Valley Classic (San Jose, Calif.), Rogers Cup (Montreal/Toronto), Western & Southern Open (Cincinnati) and Winston-Salem Open (Winston-Salem, N.C.).
Disney Media Distribution reached an agreement with the National Cable Television Cooperative to give its members the ability to carry ESPN’s upcoming ACC Network at launch on Aug. 22. The deal will allow fans and followers of the Atlantic Coast Conference to access the multiplatform network across the NCTC’s footprint. As part of a larger agreement, the NCTC also extended its carriage of the FX and National Geographic networks. 
NBC Sports wraps up coverage of the 106th Tour de France with more than 350 hours of live, primetime, and encore coverage on deck across NBC, NBCSN, and the NBC Sports Gold app this week and weekend. Live coverage of the Tour de France concludes on Sunday on Paris’ Champs-Élysées at Noon on NBCSN and 2p on NBC. Live Tour de France coverage on NBCSN is averaging 307,000 viewers through Sunday’s Stage 15 – the highest since 2015, and up 11% from last year at this point in the competition.
The Mountain West locked in the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas will continue to serve as the location for its men’s and women’s basketball championships through 2023. “The Mountain West is pleased to extend its long history of successful men’s and women’s basketball championships at the Thomas & Mack Center,” said MW Commissioner Craig Thompson. “Las Vegas has become a mecca for college basketball in early March and our MW fans have made it clear this is their preferred destination.”

The 2019 SiriusXM NFL Radio Training Camp Tour opens July 25 and will feature live shows from all 32 NFL teams’ training camps to prepare fans for the 2019 NFL season. Hosts on the SiriusXM NFL Radio Training Camp Tour include former NFL team executives and coaches Mark Dominik, Pat Kirwan, Bill Polian and Charlie Weis, former players Erik Coleman, Charles Davis, David Diehl, Bruce Gradkowski, Torry Holt, Brad Hopkins, James Lofton, Ed McCaffrey, Jim Miller and Solomon Wilcots, plus Jeff Joniak, Mike Keith, Bill Lekas, Alex Marvez, Bruce Murray, Bob Papa, Jeff Rickard and Cole Wright. NBCUniversal is looking to reel in over $1.2 billion in advertising for its 17 days of broadcasts of the 2020 Olympics from Tokyo, as “one of the most brand-safe environments” for brand campaigns, company executives told reporters on Tuesday. Dan Lovinger, executive vice president of ad sales for NBC Sports Group said NBCU was on track “to surpass” its sales goal, per Variety.
Toshiba is extending its long-running ties with AEG in a new multiyear, multimillion-dollar agreement. The new deal, brokered by AEG Global Partnerships, expands the organization’s overall relationship with Toshiba and increases the brand’s presence across some of AEG’s sports and entertainment assets. As part of the deal, Toshiba remains a Founding Partner of STAPLES Center and the official digital signage and display provider of L.A. LIVE. Additionally, Toshiba becomes the official copier and multifunction printer provider of AEG, STAPLES Center, L.A. LIVE, the LA Kings, and select AEG Presents festivals. Toshiba will also become an official partner of the LA Galaxy, Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, Calif. and Sprint Center in Kansas City, Mo.
The Mountain West unveiled a new branding and marketing campaign for the conference. Designed to make clearer the league’s purpose, vision and values the conference has adopted “At the Peak” as its tagline with the brand platform unveiled Monday. The campaign will continue throughout the academic year and beyond on multiple platforms, including social media, print, traditional advertising, television and radio.

The PGA TOUR and DraftKings unveiled a new multi-year content and marketing relationship that designates DraftKings as the first-ever “Official Daily Fantasy Game of the PGA TOUR.” DraftKings will activate the partnership by branding its daily fantasy golf contests as “PGA TOUR DraftKings Fantasy Golf,” giving fans the opportunity to win cash prizes as well as an array of PGA TOUR prizes in the future. As part of the new relationship, PGA TOUR DraftKings Fantasy Golf players will have the ability to receive real-time video highlights for players in their respective lineups. Other elements of this partnership will create expanded Draft Fantasy Sports specific content offerings, as well as allow for brand integration into both the PGA TOUR and DraftKings platforms.
IMPACT Wrestling renewed and expanded the scope of its agreement with Twitch, which includes the weekly premiere of the flagship two-hour show IMPACT! On Friday nights at 10p. The renewal will include the production of more exclusive content on the Twitch platform, including original weekly programming, pre and post-shows, live monthly specials, weekly airings of Xplosion which features never-before-seen matches, IRL (in real life) first-person streams, and much more. To support Twitch’s development of its co-streaming features, IMPACT Wrestling will facilitate co-streaming of the weekly flagship show and will be announcing details of a contest featuring co-streamers in the near future.

Epic Games named global agency IMG Media to produce and distribute the inaugural Fortnite World Cup, with the finals set to run starting July 26 in NY. All content will be delivered via a digitally encoded stream from the IMG Studios production hub in the UK. Sport 24 Extra, IMG’s in-flight sports channel, will also present the Fortnite World Cup live during international flights on selected airlines.
NBC Sports, iRacing and NASCAR are teaming up to showcase the the first-ever eNASCAR live-event on television as part of Thursday’s edition of NASCAR America at 5p on NBCSN. NASCAR America’s Krista Voda, Parker Kligerman, and AJ Allmendinger will host along with iRacing team owners Steve Letarte and Jeff Burton, who will join for pre-and post-race commentary from the NBC Sports Charlotte studio. Kligerman, also an iRacing team owner, will be racing from the NBC Sports simulator in Stamford in the eNASCAR iRacing All-Star event.Following this week’s event, iRacing will subsequently return to NASCAR America on NBCSN on the last Thursday of every month for a four-race series.
Red Bull gave wings to the return of Red Bull Conquest, lining up a tournament circuit featuring fighting titles Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition and TEKKEN 7, as well as newcomer Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[st]. Qualifiers are set to take place across eight cities, beginning Aug. 24, and culminating with the Red Bull Conquest 2019 National Finals in November. This year will see a shift to eight qualifiers for Red Bull Conquest 2019. Events include: Orlando (8/24), Chicago (9/21), Philadelphia (9/21), Los Angeles (10/12), Houston (10/12), San Francisco (10/19), Seattle (11/9) and Minneapolis (11/9).
The NBA 2K League announced that Tencent Holdings Limited will serve as the league’s first distribution partner in China. Tencent, a leading provider of comprehensive Internet services in China, will stream condensed 2019 NBA 2K League Playoff and Finals games to its hundreds of millions of daily users across Tencent Sports, Tencent Video and Tencent News. Tencent’s coverage will include select, condensed 2019 NBA 2K League Playoff games as well as all of the 2019 NBA 2K League Finals games.  The 2019 NBA 2K League Playoffs will tip off July 24, with the best-of-three quarterfinals and semifinals taking place over three days of gameplay.
Global esports organization Gen.G announced the official opening of its new facility in Los Angeles where Gen.G’s US content creators, Call of Duty, Apex Legends, and Fortnite teams will be based, along with a US staff of 15 employees. The 13,000 square-foot facility features 10gb fiber internet in three scrim rooms, a master film review room, and six soundproof streaming rooms. “Establishing our presence globally has been a priority over the last few years — that included the introduction of competitive US-based teams,” said Arnold Hur, Chief Operating Officer, Gen.G Esports. “Gen.G couldn’t be more excited about the progress we’ve made in the US market. We have an amazing group of players on board and they’re now in a top-notch setting where they’ll continue to sustain a winning culture.”

Beckham’s original content for his YouTube Channel will be created by ITN Productions along with Wheelhouse Entertainment and digital company Portal A.
