07/18/19: UTA is entering sports with investment in Klutch Sports

UTA sees big opportunities in the sports arena, announcing an investment in Klutch Sports Group, which reps athletes such as LeBron James. Klutch Sports founder Rich Paul will serve as head of the new UTA Sports arm. “Rich has built Klutch with the vision, values and entrepreneurial spirit that UTA cherishes,” said UTA CEO Jeremy Zimmer. “By focusing on growing clients’ businesses and putting their interests first, Klutch is built for the modern athlete who wants to thrive at the intersection of sports, media, music, art and culture. We are thrilled to work with Rich and his team to build Klutch and UTA Sports into a global powerhouse.”
 
 
PROGRAMMING

The countdown is on for ACC Network, with ESPN unveiling a lineup of series and talent who will be attached to the upcoming channel when it launches on Aug. 22. Heading to ACCN will be ESPN personalities Jac Collinsworth, Tim Hasselbeck and Dave O’Brien, as well as Jon Beason, and feature football announce teams that group: Dave O’Brien, Tim Hasselbeck, Katie George (reporter); Chris Cotter, Mark Herzlich, Kelsey Riggs (reporter); and Wes Durham, Roddy Jones, Eric Wood (reporter). will host ACCN’s signature football program The Huddle. Meanwhile, the fall line-up includes the documentaries Greatest Ever: The 2018 Clemson Tigers and The Bowden Dynasty, series highlighting traditions in ACC Traditions, and a special behind-the-scenes look at Louisville’s football program in All Access: Louisville Football.
 
MLB Network will exclusively carry the 2019 National Baseball Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony featuring new members Harold Baines, Roy Halladay, Mike Mussina, Edgar Martinez, Mariano Rivera and Lee Smith on Sunday. Joe Girardi will be part of MLB Network’s induction coverage for the first time as his former players Rivera and Mussina are enshrined at Cooperstown, and be joined by Peter Gammons, Harold Reynolds, and hosts Greg Amsinger and Robert Flores for MLB Tonight at 11a, followed by the Induction Ceremony at 1:30p. Three new vignettes narrated by Hall of Fame award-winning broadcaster and MLB Network host Bob Costas will air during MLB Tonight.
 
Today sees the first-ever MLB Game of the Week Live on YouTube at 12:35p. MLB Network play-by-play announcer Scott Braun, Dodgers legend and SportsNet LA analyst Orel Hershiser, former Phillies All-Star and NBC Sports Philadelphia analyst John Kruk, and MLB Network reporter Alexa Datt will call the game live from Citizens Bank Park.
 
With more numbers in, ESPN reports that The 2019 Wimbledon Championships averaged 877,000 viewers for the network for an uptick of 30% over last year, according to Nielsen. The two weeks of coverage included nearly 150 hours from London. Eleven of the 13 days experienced an increase in viewership.  The most-viewed two days came on Championship Weekend – 3,329,000 for the Gentlemen’s Championship and Ladies’ Doubles Championship on Sunday and an average of 1,197,000 for Saturday’s Ladies’ Championship and the Men’s Doubles Championship.
 
FOX Sports locked in a lineup of current and former champions to serve as analysts for the FOX Sports Premier Boxing Champions Pay-Per-View: Manny Pacquiao vs. Keith Thurman broadcast. Deontay Wilder, Errol Spence Jr., Shawn Porter and Danny Garcia join Ray “Boom Boom” Mancini and Lennox Lewis, adding insights and analysis. Wilder, Porter, Garcia and Mancini join hosts Chris Myers, and Kate Abdo live on FOX Sports’ desk for fight programming. Calling the action live on Saturday are Lewis, Porter, Joe Goossen and Kenny Albert from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
 
Raycom-Legacy Content Company is launching a new 30-minute series titled Hot Wheels Monster Trucks Live Crushing It!, hosted by Tommy Kane and Kristen Beat. The new series will go behind-the-scenes at Hot Wheels Monster Trucks Live to meet drivers, showcase trucks, engage with fans, and learn from the creators at Mattel about how they brought the toys to life. The 30-minute, six-episode series will air in nearly 100 markets from July 20-Oct. 31.

USA Swimming reeled in its first alcohol sponsor, inking a multiyear deal with Golden Road Brewing. As part of the partnership, Golden Road will serve as co-presenting sponsor of VIP hospitality experiences at USA Swimming House and USA Swimming Live at next year’s U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Omaha. The brewery will also hold activation rights in the Toyota Aqua Zone and serve as presenting sponsor of the “Last Session Show” and the Golden Goggles red carpet show.
 
The Breeders’ Cup agreed to a deal with FanDuel Group, the parent company of TVG, America’s Horse Racing network, for a comprehensive multi-year sponsorship agreement naming TVG and FanDuel the official Wagering Partners of the Breeders’ Cup World Championships. The agreement also gives TVG and FanDuel official partner status for four of its business units: Advanced-Deposit Wagering (TVG) as well as sports betting, daily fantasy sports and on-line casino, all of which operate under the FanDuel brand.  TVG will also become the name-in-title sponsor of the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) and the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1) races. In addition, TVG will produce the Breeders’ Cup Players’ Show.
 
Rhino Pro Truck Outfitters signed on as title sponsor of Las Vegas Motor Speedway’s Sept. 14 NASCAR Xfinity Series race. The event will be titled the Rhino Pro Truck Outfitters 300 and will be the second event of the 1.5-mile superspeedway’s second NASCAR tripleheader of the year.

15 Seconds of Fame’s Fanthropic, a digital philanthropic community, announced a partnership with basketball superstar Blake Griffin and the Team Griffin Foundation. The organizations will develop a fan sweepstakes to raise funds and awareness for Team Griffin by offering one fan and a guest the opportunity to “Spend a Day in the Life of Blake Griffin.” “Whether a student is looking to get into athletics, the arts, or something else entirely, the Team Griffin Foundation aims to support both young men and women in pursuit of their dreams,” said Blake Griffin. “I’m thrilled to partner with 15 Seconds of Fame’s Fanthropic to help launch Team Griffin’s latest fundraising initiative.”
