Season two of coming-of-age comedy “Chad” will not air on TBS, as Warner Bros. Discovery shifts its programming strategy post-merger. The first episode of the show’s completed second season had been scheduled to premiere April 11, but that date was moved to July 11 after the April 8 combo of WarnerMedia and Discovery Inc. Now the show has been dropped from TBS altogether, but “We are proactively exploring various options to find the right home for [‘Chad’],” said a TBS spokesperson. “We celebrate and thank Nasim Pedrad, the passionate creator, executive producer and star of the series, for sharing a bold, unexpected coming of age story with heart and humor.”

Hulu has renewed “Only Murders in the Building” for a third season. The comedy from Dan Fogelman, starring Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez, “is the true crown jewel of our slate,” said Craig Erwich, President, Hulu Originals and ABC Entertainment.

Automotive national TV ad spend dropped 23% in June, to $161.13 million, versus the same month last year, estimates iSpot.tv. Meanwhile, TV ad impressions were up 4%, to 26 billion. The top five brands in ad spend were Toyota, Kia, Nissan, Honda, and Chevrolet; the top programs by TV ad impressions were NBA, NHL, SportsCenter, the US Open Golf Championship, and “Law & Order: SVU.”

Courtroom series “We the People with Judge Lauren Lake” has been cleared for fall syndication in 95% of US markets. The show has secured clearances with group-owned television stations including FOX O&Os, CBS O&Os, Nexstar, Tegna, Weigel, Mission, Sinclair, Lockwood, Gray, Entravision, Hearst, Scripps, Corridor, Circle City Broadcasting, Block, Allen Media Broadcasting, Graham, COX Media Group, American Spirit, Bahakel, Sunbeam, and the CW 100+. The daily one-hour show will be produced and distributed by Allen Media Group/Entertainment Studios.

The ARF has announced that 100% of seniors from the first ARF Workforce Initiative for Diversity and Excellence scholar program have graduated from college. Seventy-two percent won full-time positions in marketing, advertising and research & insights.

CNBC has greenlit a new season of primetime series “Money Court,” produced by Anvil 1893. Set to premiere in early 2023, the show features entrepreneur and investor Kevin O’Leary (“Shark Tank”) and new co-host, entrepreneur, Skinnygirl founder and reality star Bethenny Frankel, as they weigh in on and resolve business disputes.

Netflix ordered comedy “Chad & JT Go Deep,” featuring viral pranksters Tom Allen (aka Chad Kroeger) and JT Parr. The series from Abso Lutely Productions launches Tuesday, August 23.

Sports-focused production company NEO Studios and Italian production company ROMA PRESS have partnered with Diego Maradona Jr. for a docuseries that will explore the life and legacy of his late father, football star Diego Maradona. “He Was My Father” (w/t) will chronicle Diego Jr.’s experience growing up as the unknown son of the celebrated and controversial soccer player.

Cattleya Producciones, part of ITV Studios, has acquired the audiovisual rights to Arturo Pérez-Reverte’s novel El Italiano, to adapt for television as a mini-series. Inspired by real events, El Italiano is set at the height of World War II.

HBO, Cartoon Network, and Lion Forge Animation have planned an adaptation of Dark Horse Comics/YouNeek Studios graphic novel series, Iyanu: Child of Wonder, into a 2D children’s animated series. Created by Nigerian filmmaker Roye Okupe, Iyanu: Child of Wonder is a superhero tale steeped in Nigeria’s culture, music, and mythology. The series follows a teenage heroine who must uncover the mystery behind her newfound powers to save her people from an ancient curse threatening to destroy humanity.

Aadrita Mukerji (“Reacher”) has signed an overall deal with Universal Television to write, develop and produce projects across platforms. First up: She’s joined NBC’s “Quantum Leap” reboot as co-EP.

Casting notes: Jonathan Bailey (“Bridgerton”) will star in Showtime limited series “Fellow Travelers” alongside Matt Bomer (“The Normal Heart”) and Allison Williams (“Girls”)Andrew McCarthy has been promoted to series regular on season six of Fox medical drama “The Resident.”… IFC released the first round of casting for the next season of “Documentary Now!”. Onboard are Cate Blanchett (“Blue Jasmine”), Jamie Demetriou (“The Afterparty, “), Trystan Gravelle (“Lord of The Rings: The Rings of Power”), Jonathan Pryce (“The Two Popes”), John Rhys-Davies (“The Lord of The Rings”) and Harriet Walter (“Succession”), as well as singer Tom Jones. Six new episodes are set to air on IFC and AMC+ in the fall of 2022.

NEW & RETURNING SERIES

“Wicked Tuna: Outer Banks Showdown” returns for a ninth season with back-to-back episodes Sunday, July 17 at 9p on Nat Geo.

Celebrity chef Bobby Flay and his daughter take a food tour across the California coastline in Food Network’s “Bobby and Sophie on the Coast,” premiering Monday, August 22 at 9p.

Season two of “The Kardashians” hits Hulu on Thursday, September 22. New episodes – which will include Kim Kardashian bf Pete Davidson, according to a teaser – will drop weekly.

Kiwi comedy “Good Grief” will make its US, Canadian and UK premiere on Thursday, August 4 as a binge release on Sundance Now, followed by its North American two-episode broadcast premiere on IFC beginning Wednesday, August 17. The six-parter is set in a small New Zealand town and follows two millennial sisters with very different personalities who inherit a funeral home from their grandfather.

All five episodes of “Children of the Underground” premiere back-to-back on FX on Friday, August 12 starting at 8p. The series tells the true story of a vigilante who built a vast underground network to hide mothers and children from abusive men.

COMING UP

Discovery Channel’s Shark Week returns for its 34th year on Sunday, July 24 at 8p with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as its first Master of Ceremonies. But it’s not just about the fins – special guests include Tracy Morgan, the stars of truTV’s “Impractical Jokers,” Sal Vulcano, James Murray, Brian Quinn, and the cast of “Jackass.”

HBO Documentary Films’ “We Met in Virtual Reality” debuts Wednesday, July 27 at 9p on HBO. Filmed entirely inside the world of virtual reality, the film roots itself in several communities within VR Chat, a burgeoning virtual reality platform.

To mark the 82nd anniversary of Bugs Bunny’s official debut, MeTV will feature “Bugs Bunny’s Birthday Bash Week” on the network’s weekday morning show, “Toon In With Me,” Monday, July 25 through Friday, July 29 at 7a.

Documentary “Petit Rat” premieres on World Channel on Sunday, July 17 at 7p, and on PBS+. The film written, directed, and choreographed by Vera Wagman, examines the intergenerational trauma of war and the resilience of familial love.

SPORTS

CBS Sports’ and former NFL on CBS sideline reporter Jamie Erdahl is heading to NFL Network to serve as host of “Good Morning Football”, debuting on July 25. “To be able to add a talent of Jamie’s caliber and experience to Good Morning Football is tremendously exciting for not only the show but NFL Network overall,” said Mark Quenzel, NFL Network Senior Vice President, Head of Content. “I have long been a fan of Jamie’s since her time at NESN, and throughout her career thus far she has earned a remarkable reputation throughout the industry.”

Meanwhile, CBS Sports named Jenny Dell as lead college football reporter, teaming her with Brad Nessler and Gary Danielson to call CBS ’top game each week, including the SEC on CBS game of the week, beginning with the 2022 season. In addition, Sherree Burruss was elevated to lead college football reporter for CBS Sports Network. Both Dell and Burruss will continue in their anchor roles on CBS Sports HQ,

Heinz Field is no more. The Pittsburgh Steelers announced that the venue will become known as Acrisure Stadium beginning this season, in a 15-year deal. “We are excited to partner with Acrisure for the naming rights to our stadium,” Steelers president Art Rooney II said. “Acrisure provided us with an opportunity to ensure our stadium continues to be a valuable asset for our fans as well as keeping up with the market value of NFL stadiums.”

For the second consecutive year, Tennis Channel and its affiliated platforms will be the exclusive home of the US Open Series, leading up to the US Open in late August with seven events in 2022, beginning with this week’s Hall of Fame Open for the Van Alen Cup in Newport. This year Tennis Channel plans to televise more than 255 live hours of US Open Series matches, and an additional 240 encore hours, devoting close to 500 on-air hours to the circuit.

DAZN Group announced the launch of a boxing-focused non-fungible token global marketplace, DAZNBOXING.io. The first collection includes NFTs featuring moments from 2021 DAZN fights, sold in mystery packs of three.

tvScientific has struck a strategic partnership with MetricWorks. With the integration of MetricWorks, tvScientific aims to reeducate marketers on the last-touch attribution while ensuring privacy and safety. The partnership also enables marketers to more accurately measure CTV performance with tvScientific’s performance advertising platform against set KPIs.

Streaming TV combines with gaming for interactive event “The Walking Dead: Last MILE” on Facebook. “’The Walking Dead: Last Mile’ is a bold and exciting new expansion for TWD,” said Robert Kirkman, Chairman of Skybound Entertainment and creator of the hit franchise. “Throughout the history of TWD, characters are forced to make hard choices with serious consequences. For the first time in TWD:LM, fans will make those choices together, as a community.”

Candy Digital has teamed up with Netflix to launch official “Stranger Things” digital collectibles. The collaboration will include 11,111 digital collectibles featuring one of 17 characters from the new season in the form of poster-style artwork.

STREAMING

Pluto TV has reorganized its US channel lineup. Audiences now have 18 categories to choose from, three more than before, including Movies, Entertainment, News + Opinion, Crime, Game Shows, Daytime TV, Comedy, Classic TV, Home, Food, Lifestyle + Culture, Sports, Gaming + Anime, Music, En Español, Kids, and Local. New launches include channels dedicated to syndicated shows “Judge Judy” and “Let’s Make a Deal,” with “Wheel of Fortune” and “Jeopardy!” dropping August 1. “We are always looking for ways to improve our programming offering and make it easier for the audience to find what they are looking for,” said Pluto TV SVP of Programming Scott Reich.

Magnolia Pictures and its sister company, Spotlight Cinema Networks, announced a partnership with Allen Media Group’s Local Now to bring the curated films on CineLife to Local Now viewers for free.

Endemol Shine Brasil has cooked up “MasterChef Senior,” known locally as “MasterChef+,” for Band. The commission follows “MasterChef Senior” specials produced by Shine Iberia for La 1.

AMC Networks International Central and Northern Europe and Vodafone Czech Republic agreed to a multi-year renewal of their long-term distribution agreement. The strategic partnership covers AMCNI CNE’s 10-channel portfolio in the Czech Republic including Sport1, Sport2, Spektrum, Spektrum Home, TV Paprika, Minimax, JimJam, AMC, Film+ and CBS Reality.

Crown Media Family Networks has promoted Maureen Barrett to VP, Talent Relations & Events. In addition, Cynthia Raza has been elevated to Director, Publicity, while Megan Van Tine has been upped to Director, Corporate Communications.

Peter Lori was named CFO for Learfield, joining after three decades of experience with progressive responsibilities in finance, most recently as the chief financial officer for Univision Communications Inc. Prior to Univision, Lori was a client service partner for KPMG and Arthur Andersen serving global Fortune 500 accounts.

The NFL hired Shayna Hayes as Coordinating Producer/Head of Content with NFL Media’s Entertainment & Initiatives department. Talent agent and producer Chris Nassif Sr. died unexpectedly on July 6. He was 62.
