New social media app noplace hit the top of the App Store the first week it launched out of invite-only mode. Aimed at younger users – “calling all NPCs, main characters, swifties, barbs, nerds, and stans,” reads the app’s description – noplace allows users to post text updates to their friends, like X, but is built around profile pages that are customizable, with the option to add information like what users are watching or listening to.

Amazon is discontinuing its Astro for Business security robot device to focus on the home version. “We are fully committed to our vision of bringing world-class consumer robotics solutions to the home,” said an Amazon spokesperson. “To accelerate our progress and ongoing research to make Astro the best in-home robot, we’ve made the decision to wind down support for Astro for Business.”

Meta had a good day in a Nevada court last week, when a federal judge dismissed a class-action lawsuit alleging that its analytics software, the Meta Pixel, wrongly collected information from the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles’ website. Meta was accused of gathering personal and restricted data from the DMV and using the information for targeted advertising, violating a federal statute that prohibits anyone from knowingly obtaining personal information from a motor vehicle record for an improper purpose. The judge agreed with Meta that the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles’ website is not a “motor vehicle record,” though the ruling allows the complainant to amend his allegations and bring them again by July 31.

Google, on the other hand, did not have such a good day in court last week, when a judge rejected its attempt to reverse a jury’s decision for Epic Games in a lawsuit charging Google and Apple of violating laws against monopolies. “The true crux of Google’s argument isn’t that the verdict was not based on substantial evidence, but rather that the jury didn’t see the evidence in the way Google wanted,” wrote US District Court Judge James Donato in the Northern District of California. “This is not a situation where the verdict was based on speculation or where the evidence would allow only one conclusion that is contrary to what the jury decided.”

Cloud service provider Cloudflare has launched a free tool to prevent bots from scraping websites hosted on its platform for data to train AI models. “We hear clearly that customers don’t want AI bots visiting their websites, and especially those that do so dishonestly,” reads the company blog post. “To help, we’ve added a brand new one-click to block all AI bots.” The tool is available for all customers, including those on the free tier.

Messaging app Telegram has expanded its in-app digital currency, Stars, to premium users for paid content. Creators are now able to convert the Stars they earn on the platform to a cryptocurrency and receive discounted ads. Creators can also convert their Stars into Toncoin, a cryptocurrency the platform hosts on The Open Network blockchain, through the app Fragment, enabling channel owners to transfer their earned cryptocurrency to their bank account with no fees.

MFA sites commonly feature evergreen content such as health and fitness, travel, and family and parenting, while avoiding time-sensitive topics like sports or news. DoubleVerify found WFA sites are:
· 99% more likely to cover travel
· 57% more likely to cover family and parenting
· 47% more likely to cover health and fitness
· 95% less likely to cover news
· 56% less likely to cover sports.

“MFA sites predominantly focus on evergreen content topics, which are easily recycled across multiple websites using generative AI tools,” said Collette Spagnolo, VP, Marketing Analytics, DoubleVerify. “Advertisers must have clear protocols and criteria in place to ensure they’re running on content they find valuable for their campaigns and audience.”
