NBCUniversal is going to court over the trademark on “Dunder Mifflin,” the name of the fictional paper company that was the setting for “The Office.” NBC alleges the rights have been claimed by “trademark squatters” who hold the patent as a way to sell illegitimate merchandise related the 2005-13 comedy. NBC applied for the trademark in 2020, but were denied.

HBO Max will no longer produce originals for Denmark, Finland, Sweden, the Netherlands, Norway, Turkey and countries in Central Europe. The move comes as HBO Max parent Warner Bros. Discovery looks to reduce spending post-merger.

“Your Honor” will end with season two, currently in production. Series star Bryan Cranston shared the news on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast. The Showtime legal drama was originally planned as a limited series, but after a successful run was renewed for a second go-round.

“Night Sky” will not be returning for a second season on Prime Video. The show won praise for the performances of its Oscar-winning stars, Sissy Spacek and J.K. Simmons, but didn’t achieve the viewership needed to sustain an expensive sci-fi production. The entire first season dropped May 20.

AMC’s “Dalgliesh” landed a renewal for two more seasons. The detective drama’s new iterations were announced by AMC’s Acorn TV and Channel 5. Both seasons will be produced by New Pictures, with funding from Northern Ireland Screen.

PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

Patricia “Ms. Pat” Williams has inked an overall deal with BET to produce, write and perform in scripted and unscripted projects. That would include “The Ms. Pat Show,” the comedy series based on Williams’ life that’s been renewed for season three.

The Chernin Group co-founder Peter Chernin is launching The North Road Company, a film and TV studio combining Chernin Entertainment, and the recently acquired U.S. assets of Red Arrow Studios and nonscripted business Words + Pictures. North Road has collected over $800 million in financing, which will be directed to the three studios as well as strategic M&A, with a focus on unscripted and international content.

Yahoo’s Journalism Fellowship program will return for a second year. The program provides opportunities and experience to members of the National Association of Black Journalists, as well as the National Associations of Hispanic and Asian American Journalists.

Matt and Ross Duffer of Netflix’ “Stranger Things” announced Upside Down Pictures. Hillary Leavitt, who has worked with BBC, Hulu and MRC, will run the new studio within Netflix.

“Premios Juventud” (PJ/Youth Awards) will bestow the “Agents of Change” award upon legendary Reggaeton duo Wisin y Yandel, honoring their major contributions to the Latin American community.

“Unprecedented,” the Alex Holder docuseries following Donald Trump and his inner circle, premieres Sunday, July 10 on discovery+. The doc has been in the news recently, after news broke that the House Committee investigating the January 6 attack on the Capitol subpoenaed footage from the project.

Ovation TV has closed a deal with A + E Networks for linear rights to “Red Election.” The Nordic spy drama will premiere Saturday, August 6 at 7p.

SPORTS

NBC Sports revealed its plans for the 150th Open Championship with comprehensive live coverage across NBC, USA Network and Peacock running July 14-17. In total, NBC Sports will present nearly 50 hours of live championship coverage Thursday-Sunday – and well over 100 hours of live coverage from St. Andrews including featured groups and featured holes. Mike Tirico hosts. NBC Sports will also complement its Open Championship coverage with live featured groups Thursday-Sunday exclusively on Peacock, showcasing two morning groups and two afternoon groups each day of the Championship. There will also be a featured holes feed highlighting holes 11, 12 and 13.

This weekend sees ESPN and ABC deliver multi-day coverage of the 2022 AT&T WNBA All-Star Weekend, July-9-10, live from Chicago. ESPN will serve up the WNBA Skills Competition and MTN Dew 3-Point Contest from McCormick Place at 3p on Saturday before ABC televises the 18th WNBA All-Star game on Sunday at 1p. Ryan Ruocco, Rebecca Lobo and Holly Rowe will call the Skills Competition joined by top host/analyst LaChina Robinson. During Sunday’s telecast, ESPN will tell the story of Brittney Griner, whom the WNBA has named an Honorary All-Star for this year’s event, who has been detained in Russia since February.

ESPN also carries the first round of the 2022 MLB First-Year Player Draft on July 17 at 7p. Karl Ravech hosts with lead analyst and MLB Draft expert Kiley McDaniel. In addition, baseball analysts Eduardo Perez, Jessica Mendoza, Kyle Peterson, Chris Burke and senior MLB insider Jeff Passan will contribute to coverage from site.

CBS Sports reports that the network notched its most-watched final round of the John Deere Classic in seven years. Sunday’s coverage saw a viewership bump of 25% versus last year’s event, averaging nearly two million viewers and peaking with 2.504 million viewers.

Meanwhile the USFL Championship on FOX saw an average of 1,517,000 viewers tune in on Sunday. That ranks as the most-watched and most-streamed USFL contest since the league’s opening weekend in April.

TUDN announced a new program dedicated to women’s soccer. The show, titled “Linea de 4 Especial,” will air weekly and feature clips, interviews and chat relating to women’s soccer. The show will be hosted by soccer expert and announcer Alfredo Tame.

NEW & RETURNING SERIES

Discovery’s “Naked and Afraid XL: Frozen” is set to premiere July 31 at 8p. The spinoff series will have contestants fend for themselves in the sub-zero temperatures of the Rocky Mountains and include a cast of survivalists from previous seasons, including Jake Nodar, Gabrielle Balassone and Ky Furneaux.

“Mastermind of Murder” returns for a new season on Oxygen on July 17 at 7p.

“Evil” has been renewed for a fourth season. “’Evil’ continues to expand its fanbase of both critics and viewers alike,” said Nicole Clemens, President, Paramount+ Original Scripted Series. “Season three currently has a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and it is a consistent top five most-watched original series and acquisition driver for the service.” The series started on CBS before relocating to the streamer.

“Genndy Tartakovsky’s Primal” is slated to return to Adult Swim on July 21 at midnight. The series is currently among Adult Swim’s 10 most-watched.

“Danny and Mick” is returning to UK’s CBBC for a fifth season. The slapstick comedy’s new season will feature the titular characters in a new leisure center, after having burned down the old one.

GAC announced Great American Adventures on XUMO, a program celebrating Americana. The series will feature 500 hours of scripted and unscripted content relating to cooking and DIY, as well as celebrating seasonal American traditions. The content will be fully ad-supported under XUMO’s FAST channel.

The finale of Food Network’s “BBQ Brawl” posted ratings of .7 P25-54 / .8 W25-54 L3, making it the series’ highest rated premiere to date. At the time of airing, it was the #1 cable program outside of news and sports.

“Family Feud” (5.0 live plus same day national Nielsen rating, up 2% from the week before) was the game show champion the week of June 20, edging out the usual leader “Jeopardy” (4.9, down 2%). Programs airing on network affiliates in daytime were faced with an extremely challenging week as most were very heavily preempted by January 6 Committee hearings on June 21 and 23 and extensive news reports on the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade on the 24.
