PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT
 
Skydance Television is securing a deal with the Asimov estate to try to turn Isaac Asimov’s Foundation into a TV series. The science fiction trilogy heavily informed Star Wars as well as numerous other sci-fi films and series.
 
Couples Court with the Cutlers began its first season of production in Atlanta. Trial attorneys Dana and Keith Cutler will be the first married couple to preside over a television courtroom in the syndicated, half-hour weekday strip from Orion TV Production. Series has been picked up by 85% of U.S. markets for this fall.
 
Breaking Bad prequel, Better Call Saul, will be back in 2018. AMC ordered a fourth season of the series, which ended its third season as the third-highest rated drama among A25-54, with 3.6 million viewers per episode, including 2 million A25-54 in Nielsen L+3 ratings.  
 
E! renewed Eric & Jesse for a third season. Series following country singer/songwriter Jessie James Decker and NFL star husband Eric Decker returns Wednesday, September 6 at 10p.
 
Big Beach Builds will be back for a sophomore season. DIY Network ordered eight new episodes of the beach house restoration show.
 
Carlos PenaVega and his wife/business partner Alexa PenaVega joined forces with IM Global Television to develop two new shows: half-hour hybrid comedy Lex & Los, which they will star in and exec produce, and La Vida, a drama with music.
 
It’s not curtains for Doomsday, after all. The thriller drama pilot is going to series. Sony TV is exploring a series order for the project, which was originally set up at ABC but never went beyond the pilot stage.
 
The Paramount Network and Viacom Velocity partnered with Indigenous Media to develop, produce and socially distribute episodes of Indigenous Media’s short docs franchise, 60 Second Docs. Each installment will reveal an untold story or element relating to Paramount Network’s slate of new scripted or unscripted originals.

OWN drama Greenleaf returns with a two-night premiere on Tuesday, August 15 at 10p and Wednesday, August 16 at 10p.
 
A&E Network premieres The Lowe Files on Wednesday, August 2 at 10p. Nonfiction series follows Rob Lowe and sons Matthew and John Owen as they travel the country exploring infamous unsolved mysteries.
 
AMC’s Halt and Catch Fire begins its fourth and final season with a two-hour premiere on Saturday, August 19 at 9p.
 
Graham Hetrick returns in the sophomore season of The Coroner: I Speak for the Dead on Monday, July 17 at 10p on ID.
 
JLTV is bringing back The Danny Kaye Show starting Thursday, June 29 at 10p.

Marking the 40th anniversary of David Berkowitz’s New York killing spree, Smithsonian Channel will air The Lost Tapes: Son of Sam on Sunday, July 30 at 9p. Doc features rarely seen press conferences and news footage.
 
Science Channel recognizes World Asteroid Day on Friday, June 30 with an interstellar lineup. When Asteriods Attack bows at 8p, followed by Asteroids: The Dark Secrets at 9p and How to Survive an Asteroid Strike at 10p.
 
HDNET Movies released top films slated to premiere in July. Among them: Amelia, starring Hilary Swank as Amelia Earhart, on Sunday, July 2 at 8p, and The Iron Lady, starring Meryl Streep as Margaret Thatcher, on Saturday, July 8 at 7:10p
 
Entertainment One, Philly Films and BET debut a behind-the-scenes look at rapper Meek Mill and his homecoming show, Meek & Friends, in special On Tour with Meek Mill. Premieres Wednesday, July 11 at 9p on BET.

DIGITAL DOINGS
 
YouTube Red issued a series order to Impulse. The action-thriller is based on the third novel in the Jumper series by Steven Gould and centers on a 16-year old girl who has always felt different from her peers and soon discovers she has the ability to teleport.
 
Netflix greenlit half-hour dramedy Everything Sucks!, created by Ben York Jones (Like Crazy) and Michael Mohan (Save the Date). The quirky, coming-of-age story centers on two groups of high school misfits.
 
Facebook inked a deal with Fox Sports to stream UEFA Champions League soccer matches via Facebook Live during the 2017-2018 season. Under the pact’s terms, Fox Sports will stream games in the U.S. on Fox Sports Facebook page, and in Spanish on the Fox Deportes Facebook Page.
 
A&E partnered with PodcastOne to launch Cold Case Files: The Podcast. It joins Real Crime Blog as part of an initiative to extend the brand’s crime-based storytelling across multiple platforms. New podcast episodes are available every Tuesday at aetv.com, PodcastOne.com, the PodcastOne app and Apple Podcasts.
 
Premier Boxing Champions on Bounce, headlined by unbeaten world champ Robert Easter battling top challenger Denis Shafkov, will be available for streaming live on Friday, June 30 via the net’s new subscription video-on-demand service Brown Sugar. Coverage begins on Bounce and Brown Sugar at 9p.

The 2017 BET Awards was the number one cable awards show among A18-49 for the 2017 broadcast season, claiming the top stop for the third consecutive year. The gala was also tops among African Americans 18-49 for the 16th consecutive year. The premiere telecast drew 5.8 million viewers P2+, as it was simulcast live across nine Viacom networks including MTV, VH1, Comedy Central, Logo, Spike and Centric. In total, the show reached 18.1 million Total Viewers P2+ and 8.5 million A18-49.
 
The finale of RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 9, was the most watched ever, garnering 859,000 Total Viewers. The show’s full season was up 122% from the last one among A18-49.
 
Bravo’s Southern Charm delivered a series high among P25-54 and Total Viewers, earning 1 million P18-49 (up +13% versus the prior week’s episode), 1.3 million P25-54 (up +17%) and 2.1 million Total Viewers (up +13%).
 
Spike TV’s Thursday, June 22 airing of The Mist delivered increases in A18-49 (+98%) and total viewers (+137%) in its timeslot, compared to the previous 4-week average. Overall, The Mist drew 1.3 million viewers with 0.6 A18-49.
 
Telemundo Deportes’ exclusive coverage of the FIFA Confederations Cup Russia 2017 reached 9.6 million total viewers through the group stage, averaging 1 million total viewers and 519,000 A18-49.
 
Dr. Phil (2.6) extended his weekly winning streak among talk shows to 41, despite being in reruns all week long. Live with Kelly & Ryan (2.1) took second place for the third week in a row, opening a gap over third place Ellen DeGeneres (1.7).
 
Crime Watch Daily (0.9, steady) jumped 25% among W25-54 (0.5 demo rating), climbing 13% from last year in households despite being in repeats all five days.
