06/04/15: Showtime unveils a la carte service; NFL to test live streamed game on Yahoo; Pinterest adds ‘Buyable Pin’ to the cart

Showtime is taking a page from HBO and launching an a la carte streaming service in mid-July without a cable subscription. The service will kick off through a partnership with Apple, and be available for $10.00 a month. It will coincide with the premieres of the new seasons of Ray Donovan and Masters of Sex on July 12, and subscribers will have access to live feeds of Showtime and unlimited viewing of every season of Showtime original series and additional programming. Customers who sign up through Apple in July will get a 30-day free trial of the service.
Yahoo and the NFL are teaming up to stream a live game as an experiment in online video options for the football league. The Oct. 25 match between the Buffalo Bills and Jacksonville Jaguars will stream exclusively for free on Yahoo and be televised in local U.S. markets.
Just as Instagram gets into the e-commerce space this week, Pinterest unveiled its shoppable button. “Buyable Pins” with a blue price next to a product will mean that a user can purchase directly on Pinterest. The pinning site is promising two million buyable pins in the future, and is working with retailers including Macy’s, Neiman Marcus and Nordstrom.


Netflix will add four new animated series to its kids line-up: Kulipari: An Army of Frogs (13 episodes, 2016), Edgar Rice Burroughs’ Tarzan and Jane (eight eps, 2016), Cirque du Soleil – Luna Petunia (11 eps, fall 2016) and Puffin Rock (13 eps, Sept. 1).
MTV debuted MTV News YouTube Channel and introduced MTV(Other)’s latest series Decoded. The show features YouTuber and comedian Franchesca Ramsey (Chesca Leigh), who tackles social issues in pop culture. MTV(Other) is known for the series Braless with YouTube’s Laci Green (4.3 million views).


Dick Clark Productions, Tubefilter and VH1 will broadcast the annual Streamy Awards live on VH1 on Sept. 17 at 10p ET and will stream live at 7p PT. Submissions and fan nominations opened today. New categories include: Breakout Creator (Overall), Documentary or Investigative (Subject), Lifestyle (Subject), Breakthrough Artist (Music), Short Form Comedy (Social Video), Short Form Creativity (Social Video) and Snapchat Storyteller (Social Video).
AMC is inviting viewers to get Mobbed Up in its new mobile app available on iOS and Android. Created as a companion piece to The Making of the Mob: New York, the app allows users to take a selfie and edit the photo using props, filters and textures from the show. Finished images can be shared on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. The Making of The Mob: New York will premiere on June 15th at 10p ET.
will host its first live free streaming event with coverage of the DARPA Robotics Challenge Finals (DRC), as well as exclusive original programs and behind-the-scenes footage. The action is free on Live.CuriosityStream.com on June 5 from 7-4p PT and June 6 from 8-6:30p PT.

Yahoo is employing independent viewability and fraud measurement for display and video advertising on its properties, as well as media purchased across its programmatic buying platform. The MRC and IAB accredited third party measurement tech partners include Double Verify and comScore.
Although three-quarters of senior marketers will shift more of their online video ad budget to programmatic over the next 12 months, more than half of marketers surveyed by ad tech company Unruly in the Unruly Programmatic Video Pulse Survey rated their programmatic video knowledge as “average”, “poor” or “very poor.” Scared yet? Here are some other findings from 1,000 brand marketers in the U.S. and U.K.:
–      Click-through rates are the least important metric when measuring the success of online video campaigns; viewability and completed views took top priority.
–      Quality of inventory, ad fraud and the skills gap are top concerns: U.S. marketers worry about programmatic range over the quality of inventory (20.8%), low levels of viewability (17.7%) and the skills gap and lack of internal expertise (15.8%).
–      Emotional and psychographic targeting is the most desired programmatic capability among both and US and UK marketers, ahead of demographic, behavioral and prospect-based targeting.
–      Programmatic video budgets are growing at the expense of TV: two-thirds of marketers plan on transferring budget from TV to programmatic video in the next 12 months.

MediaDC – parent company of Washington Examiner, The Weekly Standard and Red Alert Politics – hired Elizabeth Sheldon as National Account Director. Sheldon held roles at The Hill, Breitbart News Network, CQ-Roll Call Group, and was publisher of The New Republic.
