Spotify has launched a new “Basic” streaming plan for $10.99/month. The move comes after Spotify boosted the price of its Premium plan from $10.99 to $11.99.The new tier offers all of Premium’s options except audiobooks.

Six percent of U.S. households now watch TV exclusively on mobile devices, an increase of more than a million homes since 2022, indicating audience measurement should shift from the current TV household format to more comprehensive “TV accessible” homes, according to the Advertising Research Foundation. Using data from its “DASH 2023 TV Universe Study,” the ARF said the increase in mobile usage is being driven mainly by younger viewers, prompting the need to redefine TV audience measurement to include all who consume TV signals, not just those who own TV sets. The report also found that penetration of paid AVOD services more than doubled in 2023 to nearly half of all US households, while the penetration of SVOD services fell from 79% to 72%.”The trend toward TV access exclusively on mobile devices shows no signs of letting up, particularly because younger households drive the trend,” said Paul Donato, Chief Research Officer at the ARF. “Not surprisingly, younger households are behind many of the dynamics changing the shape of TV, as highlighted in the DASH 2023 report.”

TIME has boarded Fox Corporation’s open-source protocol for content verification and licensing, Verify. The media company is Verify’s first external publishing partner. FOX released Verify on the public Polygon Proof-of-Stake network in January 2024 to establish the origin and history of original journalism by cryptographically signing individual pieces of content on the blockchain, which in turn allows the content to be independently verified by consumers as originating from the trusted publisher they expect.

Sell-side advertising company Magnite and Spectrum Reach, the advertising sales business of Charter Communications, announced an agreement that will have Spectrum Reach expand on the current use of Magnite’s technology, which is focused on delivering targeted ads in a programmatic, or automated, fashion in a privacy-focused way to consumers watching TV via the Spectrum TV App. The two parties’ agreement extends Magnite’s full programmatic capabilities to Spectrum’s video delivery technology, allowing ad buyers to bid on individual impression opportunities available on the app in real-time.

Yahoo Advertising introduced Yahoo Creative, its first full-stack data-powered ad creative solution, developed in partnership with Innervate. Yahoo Creative brings the pace of programmatic technology’s evolution to the creative side, applying AI and data principles to real-time creative development. At launch, brands including Princess Cruises are actively using Yahoo Creative, which works across the Yahoo DSP and will be interoperable with other advertising technology platforms. “In today’s cookie-less landscape, dynamic, relevant, and engaging creative is critical for campaign success,” said Elizabeth Herbst-Brady, Chief Revenue Officer, Yahoo. “Yahoo Creative represents a major technological advancement, combining AI, data, and human expertise to usher in a new era of creative for advertisers. Viant Technology announced the launch of the latest version of its AI Bid Optimizer, an upgrade to the AI-driven bidding solution offered within its demand-side platform. The upgraded AI Bid Optimizer is powered by a deep learning neural network trained on Viant’s entire bid stream and is capable of processing millions of requests per second. Viant introduced the first version of AI Bid Optimizer last year.

Digital commerce agency Bukwild, partner to brands including CLIF Bar, Happy Family Organics and more, has rebranded as Goodness. This partnership will elevate the creative approach to advertising within games and push the boundaries of what’s possible in this medium.”

DoubleVerify announced a preview of findings from its eighth annual Global Insights Report, which analyzes media quality and performance trends, and noted a significant year-over-year increase in new fraud schemes. In 2023, DV’s research revealed a 23% surge in new fraud schemes and variants compared to the previous year, and a key factor for the increase was Generative AI. “Bot fraud, for example, commonly targets streaming environments such as CTV and audio, where fraudsters rely on falsified impression data to make it look like ads are delivering to real users,” said Roy Rosenfeld, Head of the DV Fraud Lab. “With AI, attackers can generate thousands of seemingly authentic user agents, which retrieve and facilitate end-user interaction with web content. Attackers may then further use AI to mimic human behavior, making the pattern of bot traffic more difficult to detect.” DV also found that falsified impression schemes are evolving more quickly. The average bot fraud scheme targeting streaming platforms spawned 269% more variants in 2023, for a total of 58% more streaming fraud schemes and variants in the year.
