NBCUniversal is creating a new certification for emotion and ad quality, as a category within its audience measurement framework. “Marketers should be able to see—and transact on—the results of great creative and measure ad campaign impact on every level,” said EVP for measurement and impact Kelly Abcarian at Cannes Lions. IMPACT focuses on content quality, reach/impressions, and ad quality, based on the idea that ad campaign impact should be viewed holistically. “Thanks to new measurement solutions, we believe ad campaign impact can be a shared responsibility,” said Abcarian. “We are exploring how we can value ad quality—and embrace accountability—across the board, and connect the emotions ads create with the content to the impact it generates.”
Six-time major champion Nick Faldo is retiring after 16 years announcing for the Golf Channel and CBS Sports. His last day will be August 7, tweeted Faldo, who will be replaced in the booth by Trevor Immelman next year. “I hope to often be found out back on the East Gallatin River, with a rod, waiters, and the local trout,” wrote Faldo.
The list of unique program titles in the US number over 817,000 and continues to grow, according to Nielsen’s first State of Play report. Which is cause for frustration. The vastness of platform choice has become overwhelming for audiences, with 64% of respondents saying they wish there was a bundled video streaming service that would allow them to choose as few or as many video streaming services as they want, more like channels, and 46% said it’s harder to find the video streaming content that they want because there are too many streaming services.
Pepsi has joined EstrellaTV Latin music competition series “La Academia” as official US beverage sponsor. The series, which premiered June 12, airs Saturdays and Sundays at 9p.
“American Housewife,” “9-1-1” and “The Rookie” are headed to syndication this September on stations representing more than 95% of the country. “American Housewife” will air seven days a week beginning September 12, while weekend telecasts of “9-1-1” and “The Rookie” will start September 17. “To have garnered such a large-scale response to these three series in the syndication marketplace is nothing short of phenomenal,” commented Chris Oldre, EVP, Content Sales, Disney Media and Entertainment Distribution. “We’re incredibly excited to team up with a stellar group of stations across the country.”
Having topped 97% clearance, “Sherri” will make its debut Monday, September 12. The Debmar-Mercury daytime talker will be anchored by Fox Television Stations, slipping into the slot vacated by “The Wendy Williams Show.”

AMC has renewed “Dark Winds” for a second season. The debut episode of the Western noir crime thriller drew 2.2 million viewers to AMC in Live+3 ratings, and was the #1 new series launch ever on AMC+.
SK Global and content studio Project Brazen have entered a deal with Peter Chiarelli (“Crazy Rich Asians”) to write a TV adaptation of the podcast chronicling the Fat Leonard US Navy scandal, one of the military’s largest national security breaches. The script will be based on Project Brazen’s podcast “Fat Leonard” that featured Leonard Glenn Francis, a corrupt military contractor, who spoke about stealing tens of millions of dollars through deals with the US Navy in exchange for cash bribes, escorts and luxury items. The adaptation will follow an actively developing story, with the podcast playing a major part around the current trials of five Navy officers involved with Francis.
In more podcast-to-TV news, Arrested Industries and AYR Media have signed a co-development deal to create a limited series based on AYR’s true crime podcast “The Murder of Robert Wone,” which debuted on Audible in 2021. The mystery is set against a backdrop of sex, queerness and crime during the George W. Bush administration. The circumstances surrounding Wone’s death were, and remain, baffling and more than 15 years later, his murder is still unsolved.
Tennis champ Naomi Osaka has started a media company, Hana Kuma (“flower bear” in Japanese), with plans to create scripted and unscripted series, documentaries, anime and branded content. “What excites me is being able to inspire people and tell new stories, particularly ones that I would have wanted to see when I was a kid,” Osaka, who is of Japanese and Haitian ancestry, told The New York Times. “I always wanted to kind of see someone like me.” SpringHill, co-founded by LeBron James, will serve as a financing, operations and producing partner.
BYUtv has renewed competition race “Survivalists” for season three, and “All-Round Champion,” this time featuring para-athletes, for a fifth run.

Season seven of Bravo’s “Below Deck Mediterranean” launches Monday, July 11 at 8p. Peacock viewers can get a head start on the action – the streamer will drop episodes one week early, beginning July 4.
All six episodes of “The Last Movie Stars,” a Max Original documentary from CNN Films, will debut Thursday, July 21 on HBO Max. The series, directed by Ethan Hawke and executive produced by Martin Scorsese, follows the love story of Hollywood heavyweights Joanne Woodward and Paul Newman.
Vicky McClure (“Line of Duty”) and Adrian Lester (“Life”) star in Peacock’s “Trigger Point,” making its debut Friday, July 8. The drama thriller is set in the world of bomb disposal.

“Running Wild with Bear Grylls” kicks it up a notch with “Running Wild with Bear Grylls: The Challenge,” premiering on National Geographic on Monday, July 25 at 9p. In the series, Grylls teaches celebrity guests essential survival skills that they will have to master and then prove they can use in a high-stress situation.
AO Media announced the launch of “Truth Be Told,” a new series for +Life Media premiering Thursday, June 23 across +Life media platforms and social network channels. Hosted by journalist Tony Morrison, “Truth Be Told” (not to be confused with the Apple TV+ drama) invites people to “share their stories and their shift into living a life fully in their truth.”
Jen Lilley (“Royally Wrapped for Christmas,” “Days of Our Lives”) is set to host GAC Family’s America’s first-ever Great American Christmas in July programming event, which kicks off July 2 and features Christmas movies throughout Independence Day weekend. Programming includes encore presentations of GAC Family’s original Christmas movies, as well as previews of new holiday films planned for Great American Christmas 2022.
Of course, Hallmark Channel will be hosting its annual Santa-in-the-summer programming event, with holiday movies running July 1-July 31, including the net’s first original with a Christmas-in-July theme. Crown Media sib Hallmark Movies & Mysteries gets a head start, with holiday-themed programming from June 24-30.
“The Daily Show with Trevor Noah” will be heading to the battleground state of Georgia to cover the midterm elections. The late-night comedy series will record shows from Tabernacle in Downtown Atlanta, which will air nightly October 31 through November 3 at 11p on Comedy Central.
“My Life as a Rolling Stone,” a four-part series exploring each member of the legendary rock band, has been picked up by Epix. “Compelling music docuseries have become a pillar of Epix’s slate of premium original programming, and My Life as a Rolling Stone’ is a perfect addition to that mix,” said Michael Wright, President of Epix. “This distinctive documentary captures the raw and organic energy that defines The Rolling Stones, and tells the gripping, epic story of their journey.” The series, tied to the band’s 60th anniversary, premieres Sunday, August 7.
“The Bob’s Burger Movie” will be served on HBO Max and Hulu starting Tuesday, July 12. The musical comedy/mystery, released May 27, is based on the animated Fox series.
Univision’s red carpet show for the “Premios Juventud” (PJ/Youth Awards), “Noche de Estrellas,” will return after four years with moments including a special Agent of Change award, musical performances, interviews, fashion, and exclusive content featuring nominated artists, hosts, and presenters. The show airs live on Thursday, July 21 at 7p.
Michael Bolton will perform at the 49th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards, presented live at 9p on Friday, June 24, on CBS. The “When a Man Loves a Woman” singer will croon a new song, “Beautiful World,” during the In Memoriam segment.
Future Today announced new parental control features for HappyKids, the AVOD kids and family-themed channel. “While Future Today has built proprietary technology for creative review, we don’t overly rely on algorithmic content moderation for HappyKids,” said Vikrant Mathur, Co-Founder, Future Today. “Ultimately, a robust and comprehensive manual review process ensures a safe and suitable viewing experience for our viewers and advertisers.”

Magnite and LG Ads Solutions have inked a multi-year deal that will make LG Ads Solutions’ audience-level ACR data available on Magnite’s SSP. Audience-level ACR data from opted-in LG smart TVs in the US will be made available across Magnite’s inventory footprint and will expand to other countries starting in 2023. Activation is DSP agnostic, so buyers have the flexibility to choose the demand-side platforms they want to use.

TelevisaUnivision will connect VideoAmp’s data to its Hispanic household graph to power its planning, targeting, cross-platform measurement and currency solutions. “Representation and accuracy are crucial in today’s data-driven media ecosystem, and in working closely with our team over the last several months, VideoAmp has made significant strides to ensure their dataset and methodologies precisely capture US Hispanic audiences,” said Dan Aversano, SVP of Data, Analytics and Advanced Advertising at TelevisaUnivision.
Between March 2020 and March 2022, US AVOD households grew 29%, from 60.1 million to 77.5 million, while SVOD households grew 21%, from 64.5 million to 77.7 million, according to Comscore’s new State of Streaming report. “While both ad-supported and subscription-based streaming services are growing in the US, we’re seeing that consumers are being more mindful of their budgets and leaning towards ad-supported services,” observed James Muldrow, Comscore’s VP of Product Management. “This makes sense as inflation continues to hit consumer’s wallets.
