Iconic New York broadcaster Ernie Anastos is returning to TV with a weekly syndicated series that he developed. “Positively America with Ernie Anastos,” featuring uplifting stories and inspiring interviews, is set to debut this fall nationally via Gray Television’s owned and operated network of affiliated stations in 113 markets. “It’s the right time,” said Anastos. “My passion has always been to inform, educate and inspire people with a sense of purpose. It’s a strong commitment to that now expands to a national audience, and I’m very excited.”
Mo’Nique’s 2019 lawsuit against Netflix claiming racial and gender bias has been settled. The comic and Oscar winner (“Precious”), whose real name is Monique Hicks, alleged that the $5 00,00 she was offered by the streamer in 2017 for a stand-up special was not only an insult but illegal. Her filing over pay for a potential comedy special cited the tens of millions reportedly paid to Amy Schumer, Ricky Gervais, Ellen DeGeneres and Dave Chappelle for their Netflix specials.
Paramount Global’s International CEO Raffaele Annecchino has been placed “on leave,” reports Deadline. “Effective today, Raffaele Annecchino, President, Paramount International Studios, Networks and Streaming, is on leave from the company,” read an internal note cited by Deadline. No details about the situation were offered. In the interim, Annecchino will be replaced by JC Acosta, President, International Studios, Streaming and Networks for Southern Europe, Latin America, Middle East and Africa; Maria Kyriacous, President, Australia, Canada, Israel and UK; and Mark Specht, Executive VP and Managing Director, Central and Northern Europe and Asia.

Apple has ordered a second season of “Swagger,” the sports drama inspired by basketball player Kevin’s Durant’s childhood experiences. It’s set to premiere in October on Apple TV+
HBO Max and Cartoon Network are collaborating on “Bye Bye Bunny: A Looney Tunes Musical.” The first-ever Looney Tunes original animated movie musical is being produced by Warner Bros. Animation, with screenplay and lyrics from Ariel Duman and music and orchestration from Tom Kitt.
In other HBO Max news, the streamer has ordered “Scavengers Reign” to series. The adult animated sci fi drama from Titmouse was co-created and executive produced by Joe Bennett and Charles Huettner and follows the surviving crew of a stranded deep space freighter.
Amazon is working on a TV series adaptation of mystery thriller podcast “Last Known Position” with Gina Rodriguez (“Jane The Virgin”) as the lead actress and executive producer. Rodriguez starred in the podcast, which follows the fallout of new state-of-the-art American commercial jetliner that vanishes on its maiden voyage over the Pacific. An investigation discovers evidence of a creature of the deep that may be been responsible.
Sony Pictures Classics nabbed the rights to “Turn Every Page – The Adventures of Robert Caro and Robert Gottlieb.” The film had its world premiere on June 12 at the Tribeca Film Festival and explores Caro and Gottlieb’s 50-year creative collaboration.
Genndy Tartakovsky (“Dexter’s Laboratory,” “Samurai Jack”) has inked an exclusive overall deal with Cartoon Network Studios and Warner Bros. Animation. Tartakovsky will develop, create and produce original animated programming at both CNS and WBA for all television platforms, including HBO Max, external streaming services, cable and broadcast networks.
Apple TV+ has ordered “Before,” a limited series headlined by Billy Crystal. Written by Sarah Thorp (“The Bounty Hunter”) and directed by Barry Levinson, it tells the story of Eli (Crystal), a child psychiatrist and recent widower who encounters a troubled little boy. Crystal, Thorp, Levinson and Eric Roth will serve as executive producers on the series from Paramount Studios.
“School Spirit” (w/t) has been greenlit by Paramount+. Peyton List (“Cobra Kai”) will star in the YA drama, which is based on Nate and Megan Trinrud and Maria Nguyen’s upcoming graphic novel. The series is being produced by Awesomeness Studio.
Casting notes: Paul Reiser has joined the cast of Amazon’s “The Boys”… “Good Girls” alum Manny Montana has landed a series regular role opposite Dominique Thorne in Marvel Studios’ Disney+ series “Ironheart.”…Ian Duff (“We Own This City”) is set as a lead in “Criminal Nature,” an ABC drama pilot from Rashad Raisani, 20th Television and A+E Studios. The project is described as a soapy procedural set in the world of America’s great outdoors that revolves around the tangled lives of the agents who work for the ISB, an elite law enforcement unit.

“Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin” debuts its 10-episode season Thursday, July 28 on HBO Max. The dark take on the teen melodrama introduces a new generation of Liars who are tormented by A, a masked killer hellbent on punishing them for the sins of their mothers as well as their own.
Season 3 of “Tuca & Bertie” premieres Sunday, July 10 on Adult Swim. The animated series stars Tiffany Haddish (Tuca) and Ali Wong (Bertie) as colorful bird girl besties, who navigate the ups and downs of adulting.
The History Channel launches “Colosseum” on Sunday, July 17 at 9p. The 8-part documentary offers insight into life during the Roman Empire through the lens of those who fought, died and interacted with the infamous arena.
UK comedian Iain Stirling is taking his role as narrator of “Love Island” to Peacock’s US adaptation of the global hit, when the reality series debuts its new season on Friday, July 19. Six episodes are slated to drop per week.
Apple Original limited series “Five Days at Memorial” and dark comedy “Bad Sisters” will make their global debuts on Apple TV+ this August. Set in 2024 tracks a leading team of analysts buried in the heart of GCHQ, secretly working to ward off a series of cyber-attacks on the UK in the run up to a general election.
Motortrend star Cristy Lee uncovers monumental deals for clients desperate to find their perfect home in new HGTV series, “Steal This House,” premiering Saturday, July 9 at 9p.
“Entergalactic” arrives Friday, September 30 on Netflix. The adult-animated music series is based on the upcoming album of the same name by rapper, singer and actor Kid Cudi, who also stars in the project from Kenya Barris and Scott Mescudi, (aka Kid Cudi).
Showtime’s three-part documentary “Supreme Team” will premiere at the Tribeca Festival on Sunday, June 19 at Borough of Manhattan Community College, ahead of its on-air network debut on Sunday, July 10 at 10p. All three parts will be available on streaming and on demand for Showtime subscribers on Friday, July 8 at 12a.
“Crank Yankers” is returning to Comedy Central for a seventh season. The series from Jimmy Kimmel, Adam Carolla and Daniel Kellison bows Wednesday, July 7 at 8p with back-to-back episodes.

Shudder Original Film “Who Invited Them” will be available on Thursday, September 1 exclusively on Shudder in the U.S., Canada, the UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. The dark comedy puts a fresh fun twist on the home invasion genre.
Undefeated pro boxer Jake Paul and Unified world champion Amanda Serrano will headline dual main events at Madison Square Garden on Saturday, August 6 live on Showtime PPV. Opponents for the main event bouts are to be announced.

On Tuesday, YouTube announced that over 1.5 billion logged-in users are watching YouTube Shorts each month. TikTok announced it had 1 billion users in September 2021 with a forecast to hit 1.5 billion in 2022. To accelerate its own growth, YouTube has been adding new features to Shorts, while offering content creators cash bonuses, including a $100 million fund for popular videos. It also touts Shorts as a way to drive viewers to long-form video channels.

Spotify and Integral Ad Science announced a new partnership to establish a third-party brand safety solution for podcast advertisers. Global media agency UM Worldwide will be part of the learning and development process as the first holding company to test this solution, ensuring that the voice and needs of advertisers are considered from the outset.
Fandom has launched two new programs – Fandom Stars and Admin+. Both provide mentorship and recognition as well as professional development courses for the platform’s top creators.
The Brandtech Group acquired a major stake in e-commerce tech platform Acorn-I. The acquisition was led by The Brandtech Group partner, Virginie Douin, former head of Amazon’s global partner program. Acorn-I helps brands and sellers grow and scale their business across direct-to-consumer channels and digital marketplaces and provides self-service technology, Ignite, which offers a suite of e-commence analytics and insights products combined with AI-posed retail media capabilities. Lupus Films is developing a series of three films based on the children’s books “Storm Whale” by Benji Davies. “The Storm Whale Trilogy,” three half-hour specials written and directed by Robin Shaw, are being presented at the Annecy International Animation Festival.
Disney Television Animation, Disney Junior and Disney EMEA Original Productions unveiled a slate of animated programming to air across Disney+ and other Disney platforms. Disney+ series “Monsters at Work” and “Chip ‘n’ Dale: Park Life” were renewed for second seasons, while “Marvel’s Spidey and his Amazing Friends” and “Mickey Mouse Funhouse” were renewed for a third.
