President Joe Biden will appear on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” this Wednesday. This will mark the president’s first in-person appearance on a late-night talk show since taking office.

Disney’s ESPN, Netflix, NBCUniversal and Amazon are battling to broadcast Formula 1 races in the U.S. next year. ESPN is reportedly paying $5 million annually to air the sport, but since its popularity has skyrocketed, F1 owner Liberty Media is now asking $100 million.

Ava DuVernay will receive the 2022 International Emmy Founders Award. The director, writer and producer has created “When They See Us,” “Selma,” “13th” and Disney’s “A Wrinkle In Time,” which made her the highest-grossing female Black director in American box office history.

Warner Bros. Discovery Access announced its Comedic Voices Program to find talent for new late-night and unscripted programming. The one-week October bootcamp will focus on long-form monologue writing, joke punch-ups, and more.

Red Arrow Studios International picked up the global distribution rights for a “Plan B” remake. Originally produced in French, the English-language remake of the anthology drama was commissioned by CBC in Canada and will star Patrick J. Adams and Karine Vanasse.

Eduardo Sacheri will write “Santa María,” an eight-part series with Fabula and Fremantle. The film is now in development and is set to be presented at this month’s Conecta Fiction & Entertainment.

“Tiny Beautiful Things” was given a straight-to-series order by Hulu. The half-hour series based on the New York Times bestselling book by Cheryl Strayed stars Kathryn Hahn as a woman who becomes an anonymous advice columnist while her own life is falling apart. Reese Witherspoon, Laura Dern, Lauren Neustadter, Stacey Silverman and Jayme Lemons will executive-produce, along with Strayed and Hahn.

Korean apocalypse horror series “All of Us Are Dead” was renewed for a second season by Netflix. The series follows a group of high school students as they fight a zombie outbreak while trapped at school.

MY Entertainment was acquired by Media Content Services. The deal was orchestrated by MY Entertainment President and Founder Michael Yudin and Media Content Services CEO Shawn Moffatt and Co-Founder Patrick Bryant. Yudin will retain his position.

NEW & RETURNING SERIES

Circle Network will premiere “Austin City Limits: Country,” a new weekly series that gives fans a glimpse into what was going on in the artists’ careers at the time the live shows were recorded. Episodes will feature Clint Black, the late Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash, Reba McEntire and Kris Kristofferson, among others. The show will premiere on June 8 at 10p.

Public Television’s series “Camp TV” will return for a third season on July 1. The WNET Group’s summer learning and exploration series comprises 10 new half-hour episodes, and 10 additional eps repackaged from previous seasons. Comedian Mia Weinberger has joined as co-counselor alongside head counselor Zachary Noah Piser.

Vice TV will premiere its “Icons Unearthed” series with a 6-hour deep dive into the Stars Wars universe on July 12. The first episode will feature a first-ever on-camera interview with George Lucas’ ex-wife, Marcia Lucas.

“What We Do in the Shadows” was renewed for fifth and sixth seasons. The Emmy-nominated comedy vampire show will premiere its fourth season on July 12 at 10p on FX and will stream the next day on Hulu, where the first three seasons are currently available.

Season 3 of Netflix’s “Locke & Key” will premiere August 10. The upcoming season will be the murder drama’s last.

Five original shorts of “I Am Groot” will launch exclusively on Disney+ on August 10. All five shorts of the animated series will be available upon launch.

COMING UP

Kevin Frazier and Nischelle Turner will host the 49th Daytime Emmy Awards on CBS and Paramount+ on June 24. Together, Frazier and Turner are the first Black duo to host an entertainment news show.

HBO original documentary “Endangered” will debut on June 28. Executive producer Ronan Farrow’s film will explore the rising threats to a free press both home and abroad. The 2022 Tribeca Film Festival selection chronicles a year in the life of journalists in Mexico City, São Paulo and the United States.

Documentary film “Leave No Trace” is slated to premiere on Hulu and in theaters on June 16. The film explores the failure to protect generations of boys from sexual abuse and the cover up by The Boy Scouts of America, told through survivors’ firsthand accounts.

“The Holiday” will premiere on Spectrum on June 20. A dream family vacation turns into a nightmare as secrets of betrayal come to light in this four-part thriller.

Season 4 of “Manifest” will debut on Netflix this fall. The fourth and final season of the drama show will be released in two parts, consisting of 10 episodes each.

STREAMING

Roku launched a free Hispanic streaming hub on the Roku Channel. Espacio Latino will feature thousands of movies, series and telenovela titles as well as family entertainment and news.

Cinedigm launched The Bob Ross Channel en Español on The Roku Channel. The free, ad-supported linear Spanish language-dubbed channel will stream through Espacio Latino.

Crackle Plus will stream “Salvage Marines,” Casper Van Dien’s sci-fi action series. Screen Media acquired North American TV rights to the dystopian series, which will stream next month.

TECH TALK

Elon Musk threatened to withdraw his Twitter deal over claimed lack of user data transparency. Twitter shared a letter it received from Musk’s legal team indicating displeasure regarding the level of “spam and fake accounts” on its service. The letter said that more data on Twitter’s non-human users is necessary in order to close the transaction.

HUDSY announced the launch of the Hudson Valley’s first video streaming app. Featured content will be about or shot in the Hudson Valley, and celebrates the local characters, history, culture and landscape of the region.

Future Today launched its first dedicated ad-sales team, called FTI+. The newly-created team will offer personalized relationships to help meet advertisers’ goals through direct, pg and pmp pipelines.

CASTING

James Marsden will power back on for season 4 of “Westworld.” Marsden portrayed the late host Teddy Flood in seasons 1 and 2 of the series.

“Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities” confirmed five new cast members Eric André, Sofia Boutella, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Kate Micucci and Charlyne Yi. The collection of live-action stories is meant to challenge traditional notions of horror.

“Borat 2” breakout star Maria Bakalova was cast in a key role in Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.” The Oscar nominee will join Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Vin Diesel, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Sylvester Stallone, and Karen Gillan, among others. The film is slated to open on May 5, 2023.

Goran Visnjic joined “Vikings: Valhalla” season 3. The “Timeless” and “ER” star will play Erik the Red, the Viking father of Leif Eriksson and Freydis, who is living in exile in Greenland.

Blue Ant International acquired Drive Media Rights, a UK-based production financing and distribution firm. The deal is part of Blue Ant International’s ongoing expansion in the UK and the distributor’s commitment to growing its presale capacity.
