Mashable and Above Average teamed up to premiere The Tripp & Tyler Show: Finding the Humor IRL, a weekly web series starring YouTube personalities Tripp Crosby & Tyler Stanton. Their special strain of comedy, life tips and brotherly banter will be available on Mashable.com, AboveAverage.com, and Tripp & Tyler’s YouTube channel every Tuesday. The duo has more than 50 million lifetime views and is known for comedy video sketches including A Conference Call in Real Life and Sh*t Nobody Says.
 
Netflix made its first major Cannes Film Festival acquisition yesterday with the worldwide distribution rights to the upcoming Kevin James (Paul Blart: Mall Cop) film. The True Memories of an International Assassin will land on Netflix in 2016 prior to its release in theaters. Jeff Wadlow (Kick Ass 2) will direct the film, based on a screenplay by Jeff Morris.
 
In more Netflix news: Millennials, rejoice! The streaming service brought back the good ol’ days of 8th grade science with Bill Nye the Science Guy. Netflix has so far added 31 of the original 100 episodes originally produced for the 90’s program.

Robert RodriguezEl Rey Network Presents: The Director’s Chair, one-on-one interviews between Rodriguez and filmmakers, is now available on iTunes. In addition, a new installment with Robert Zemeckis is part of the library for download in advance of its El Rey Network premiere on May 31 at 9p ET. Zemeckis joins interviewees Quentin Tarantino, John Carpenter, Guillermo Del Toro, Luis Valdez and Francis Ford Coppola.
 
Sesame Workshop’s on demand video service, Sesame Street Go, is now available for Roku customers through the service’s new streaming channel. The ad-free subscription service provides families with a child-friendly platform to instantly watch new full-length Sesame Street TV episodes, short-form mini episodes, and hundreds of full-length episodes from prior seasons and Sesame Classics Volumes 1 and 2.
 
 

MOBILE GAMING + APPS
 

ABC Family is jumping into the virtual reality arena with a new app promoting the drama Stitchers. Titled Hack the Case, the app became available yesterday on Stitchers.com at the Google Play store and the Apple App store. The app challenges users to find out if they have what it takes to be a “stitcher,” as they view multiple videos and collect clues to solve a case. Those who succeed are entered into a sweepstakes to win a trip to Los Angeles and have an action figure created in their own image. Series premieres June 2 at 9p ET.

 

Mattel launched a new app featuring the “hero next door.” Fireman Sam: Hero Adventures can be downloaded exclusively from the Amazon Appstore for $1.99. In addition, it’s available through Amazon’s FreeTime Unlimited service on Fire tablets and Fire HD Kids Edition.

Startup TV ad service iSpotTV raised $21.9 million in a Series B round of funding led by Insight Venture Partners. Previous investors Madrona Venture Group also participated in the round, which brings iSpotTV’s funds to $27 million. The company service tracks national TV ads, including when and on which network they run, and how each ad subsequently performs on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and other online destinations.

Bachmaier comes to Machinima from BBC Worldwide, where he spent four years as Executive Vice President, International Production.

Todd Tran joined Teads as Global Senior Vice President of Programmatic and Mobile. Tran is former Managing Director of International at Millennial Media’s Platform business and will lead Teads’ supply-side platform, exchange and mobile offerings.

Placemedia, a supply side programmatic platform for linear TV, announced the addition of Chris Raleigh as Chief Commercial Officer. Raleigh was most recently Senior Vice President, Cable and Cross Platform Sales at The Weather Company. Previously, he managed cross platform ad sales for Liberty Media/Sony-owned GSN.

Newsmax TV named Eric Pearce to the new position of Senior Vice President, Broadcast Operations and Strategy. Previously, Pearce served as a producer at CNN; he also is the former Senior Vice President of Television at TheBlaze.

DTH Operators Association of India, which reps Indian DTH operators, appointed Anil Khera as President. Khera is the CEO of Videocon d2h, which is India’s fastest growing DTH service with more than 13 Million subscribers. Prior to Videocon d2h, he led the brands Sansui and Kelvinator.
