RATINGS
Competition with and preemptions from April 26 news coverage of the Bill Cosby’s guilty verdict helped send many syndicated shows lower in the session ending April 29, which included the first two weekdays of the May sweep. The frame’s most successful syndicated program was Judge Judy (7.0 Live+SD national Nielsen rating, up 6% from the week before). Judy averaged 9.8-millions viewers each day. The only other court strip in positive territory for the week was Hot Bench (2.3, up 5%).
Only two of the 15 talk shows managed to improve from the week before: Leader Dr. Phil (3.2, up 3%), which scored a three-week high and finished first in talkers for 86 consecutive weeks, and the fifth place Wendy Williams (1.3, up 8%). In a dead heat for second place were Live with Kelly and Ryan (2.1, down 5%) and Ellen DeGeneres (2.1, down 5%).
On the heels of ratings success in 1Q18, Sportsman Channel continues to experience ratings delivery success in the key demo A25-54, during primetime and weekends, with double-digit gains thus far in 2Q. The network delivered increased ratings of +40% in primetime in the demo, as well as an increase of +20% in the same demo during weekend viewing compared to last year.
Among A25-54 Discovery Channel had its highest rated April ever on Wednesdays (up 60% over last year) and Fridays (up 50%). The network owned cable’s #1 series across four nights of the week in M25-54 and M18-49: Fast N’ Loud on Monday, Deadliest Catch on Tuesday, Street Outlaws: No Prep Kings on Wednesday, and Gold Rush: Parker’s Trail on Friday.
HGTV ranked as the #4 cable network among W25-54 and ranked #9 among A25-54 in April. Among upscale viewers, HGTV was the #2 cable network with W25-54 and took the top spot among both upscale !25-54 and W25-54 during weekends.
Food Network delivered its highest rated April among A25-54 in four years, and the network was a hit with millennials, growing ratings 25% over last April. The network ranked #6 among W25-54 and #7 among upscale W25-54 for the month.
FOX’s Empire (2.5/11 Live+7, +47% from Live+SD) and Star (1.6/6 Live+7, +33% from Live+SD) were Wednesday’s top two scripted programs.

Dick Clark Productions announced three promotions. Rika Camizianos was upped Vice President of Creative Content and Post Production, Magdalena Mango was named Vice President of Brand Strategy and Integrated Marketing, and Michael Nieporent was appointed Vice President of Brand, Marketing and Digital Strategy.
