The network has also pulled the plug on midseason dramedy Life Sentence, opting not to renew it for a sophomore season. Star Lucy Hale shared the news with her fans on Twitter.
It looks like Lethal Weapon star Clayne Crawford won’t be returning to the FOX series if it gets a third season renewal. It’s been reported that FOX and Warner Bros. are actively looking for a replacement for Crawford, following complaints about his on-set behavior. Apparently, the future of the series hinges on a suitable replacement being found.
CNN and PBS are launching new late-night public affair series Amanpour & Company in July on PBS (check local listings). Christiane Amanpour will lead the conversation with contributions from Walter Isaacson, Michel Martin, Alicia Menendez and Hari Sreenivasan, featuring in-depth conversations with global thought leaders and cultural influencers on issues impacting the world.
HBO’s documentary about Arizona senator and former POW John McCain has been given a title and a premiere date. John McCain: For Whom the Bells Tolls will air on Memorial Day, Monday, May 28 at 8p.
Discovery reported financial results for the first quarter ending March 31, 2018, noting revenues of $2,307 million increased 43% on a reported basis compared with the prior quarter. Excluding the impact of foreign currency transactions and the Scripps Networks Interactive, The Enthusiast Network and the Oprah Winfrey Network transactions, revenues increased 14% as International Networks grew 28% and U.S. Networks grew 3%.

FOX issued its first pilot to series order to The Passage, starring Mark-Paul Gosselaar. The project, based on Justin Cronin’s best-selling fantasy book trilogy, comes from Liz Heldens, Matt Reeves, Scott Free and 20th Century Fox TV.
Hulu gave a 10-episode straight-to-series order to Light as a Feather from AwesomenessTV, Wattpad and Kelsey Grammer’s Grammnet. Based on a story by Zoe Aarsen, the project follows five teen girls dealing with the supernatural fallout from playing a game of Light as a Father, Stiff as a Board.
Homeland EP Ron Nyswaner inked a multi-year exclusive overall deal with FremantleMedia North America. His first project with the studio is Bounty, a crime thriller based on Louisa Luna’s novel, Two Girls Down.  
Adult Swim issued a pilot order to Three Busy Debras from Amy Poehler and her Paper Kite production company. The comedy, created, written and starring Sandy Honig (Isn’t It Romantic), Mitra Jouhari (Miracle Workers) and Alyssa Stonoha (The Special Without Brett Davis), follows three disturbed housewives and their fellow residents in an affluent Connecticut suburb.
A mini-series about the Chateau Marmount from John Krasinski and Aaron Sorkin, which was originally in the works and planned at HBO back in 2011, is moving forward, reports Deadline. The new incarnation will be spurred on by Shawn Levy’s biography on the Hollywood hotel, The Castle on Sunset. “We just bought the rights to the book and we’re going to give it another show,” said Krasinski.”
Netflix ordered a third season of Santa Clarita Diet, scheduled to launch in 2019. The entire main cast of the dark comedy, including Drew Barrymore, Timothy Olyphant, Liv Hewson and Skyler Gisondo, are set to return.
Drake Doremus inked a two-year overall deal with Paramount TV to develop new projects and direct some existing projects for the studio. It marks a return to Paramount for Doremus, who directed the studio’s 2011 release Like Crazy.

TLC celebrates the royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle with two days of special programming. The UFC landed a major media partner with a multi-year agreement with ESPN, which will showcase the sport on its new direct-to-consumer subscription service. The deal takes effect in January 2019, and while terms were not disclosed, sources pegged the pact at $150 million for five years.
The BBC is eyeing a revival of its aborted digital service Project Kangaroo, to combat the competition of global SVOD services including Netflix and Amazon. The British public broadcaster is back in talks with rival broadcasters ITV and Channel 4 as well as NBC Universal to launch its own UK streaming service. The move comes almost 10 years after Project Kangaroo, a planned video-on-demand between the broadcasters and the BBC’s commercial arm, was blocked by the British Competition Commission.
Comedy Central signed a non-exclusive digital development deal with Bento Box Entertainment (Bob’s Burgers). Bento Box will develop and produce short-form series for digital/social platforms including Facebook Watch and YouTube, working with new and established talent that has caught the network’s attention. If the network produced a linear series, Bento Box will have first opportunity rights to animate and EP it.

My Channel in the UK and Uganda bought five seasons of My First Home.

Competition with and preemptions from April 26 news coverage of the Bill Cosby’s guilty verdict helped send many syndicated shows lower in the session ending April 29, which included the first two weekdays of the May sweep. The frame’s most successful syndicated program was Judge Judy (7.0 Live+SD national Nielsen rating, up 6% from the week before). Judy averaged 9.8-millions viewers each day. The only other court strip in positive territory for the week was Hot Bench (2.3, up 5%).
Only two of the 15 talk shows managed to improve from the week before: Leader Dr. Phil (3.2, up 3%), which scored a three-week high and finished first in talkers for 86 consecutive weeks, and the fifth place Wendy Williams (1.3, up 8%). In a dead heat for second place were Live with Kelly and Ryan (2.1, down 5%) and Ellen DeGeneres (2.1, down 5%).
On the heels of ratings success in 1Q18, Sportsman Channel continues to experience ratings delivery success in the key demo A25-54, during primetime and weekends, with double-digit gains thus far in 2Q. The network delivered increased ratings of +40% in primetime in the demo, as well as an increase of +20% in the same demo during weekend viewing compared to last year.  
Among A25-54 Discovery Channel had its highest rated April ever on Wednesdays (up 60% over last year) and Fridays (up 50%). The network owned cable’s  #1 series across four nights of the week in M25-54 and M18-49: Fast N’ Loud on Monday, Deadliest Catch on Tuesday, Street Outlaws: No Prep Kings on Wednesday, and Gold Rush: Parker’s Trail on Friday.
HGTV ranked as the #4 cable network among W25-54 and ranked #9 among A25-54 in April. Among upscale viewers, HGTV was the #2 cable network with W25-54 and took the top spot among both upscale !25-54 and W25-54 during weekends.  
Food Network delivered its highest rated April among A25-54 in four years, and the network was a hit with millennials, growing ratings 25% over last April. The network ranked #6 among W25-54 and #7 among upscale W25-54 for the month.  
FOX’s Empire (2.5/11 Live+7, +47% from Live+SD) and Star (1.6/6 Live+7,  +33% from Live+SD) were Wednesday’s top two scripted programs.
