The average TV home gets 189 channels, versus 129 in 2008 – but consumers still tune in to an average of just 17 of those channels, according to Nielsen‘s Advertising & Audiences Report. What’s the best strategy? "Be the best option," says Nielsen.

CBS Cares and the National Stroke Association have teamed for PSA storytelling messages to raise awareness of the risk factors associated with strokes. "We learned that every 40 seconds someone in the United States experiences a stroke, often when doing very ordinary things," said Matthew Margo, SVP, program practices, CBS. "So we wanted to portray that experience for our audience and emphasize that strokes can happen to anyone, anywhere, even at a family event, and to illustrate that they are preventable." The campaign runs through May.
Calling Discovery nets "platform agnostic," CEO David Zaslav said in an earnings call Tuesday that he’d consider selling programming to online ventures. "This is the best time to be in the content business when you own your own content," said Zaslav. As for reports that Discovery is interested in U.K. production company All3Media, the exec said, "We look at everything, but only want to buy assets that will help us strategically."
Country star Brad Paisley will take a judge’s chair on ABC‘s upcoming singing competition Rising Star, reports Deadline. Auditions are underway for the series, based on the red-hot Israeli format, premiering Sunday, June 22 at 9p.
With A-list talent and high-profile deals, it’s clear the NewFronts are on the fast track… but to where? In a new Cynsiders column, "NewFronts Are Primetime," IAB’s Julie Van Ullen makes the case that while high quality digital content is hardly abundant, "the NewFronts serve an important role in this exploding marketplace."
