IN THE NEWS
Fox did not renew “9-1-1” for a seventh season. Instead, the popular but pricey 20th Television first responder drama will have a new home – ABC. “Thanks to the creative drive of Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Tim Minear, as well as the talented cast, ‘9-1-1’ has been one of the most defining and original dramas on network television over the last six seasons and we are honored to bring it to the esteemed group of series on ABC,” said Craig Erwich, President, Disney Television Group. “It’s a privilege to keep ‘9-1-1’ in the family with 20th Television producing.”
“9-1-1” spinoff “9-1-1: Lone Star,” on the other hand, has been renewed by Fox for a fifth season. “Lone Star” is Fox’s second-most-watched drama, after “9-1-1.”
Apple TV+ handed an early season four renewal to “The Morning Show.” Season three of the drama starring Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon launches this fall.
Also coming back is Netflix’s “The Diplomat,” a political drama starring Keri Russell. “Fans around the world are loving every minute of ‘The Diplomat’s’ gripping and propulsive drama, and embracing Keri Russell’s powerful performance as Kate Wyler,” said Jinny Howe, VP of Drama Series, Netflix.
Amazon Freevee placed a season three order for spinoff “Bosch: Legacy,” ahead of its season two premiere. “We look forward to giving Bosch fandom the next chapter for these beloved characters,” said Lauren Anderson, Head of AVOD Originals, Unscripted and Targeted Programming at Amazon Studios.
Also renewed at Amazon Freevee is “Judy Justice,” for two additional seasons. And the streamer ordered docudrama “Justice on Trial,” created and exec produced by Judge Judy Sheindlin, exploring the American justice system.
Donald Trump is scheduled to appear on a CNN presidential town hall on May 10, moderated by “CNN This Morning” anchor Kaitlin Collins. The Republican candidate – who during his presidency frequently labeled CNN as “fake news” – will take questions from Republicans and undeclared voters.
The biggest challenge in unifying linear and digital is a lack of common metrics across channels, according to 53% of respondents in a Yahoo Advertising study examining the advantages and obstacles of combining addressable linear and digital campaigns. Other challenges include:
· Creating a holistic framework for planning and measurement (41%)
· Data-sharing restrictions by walled gardens (40%)
· Choosing the right partner (34%)
· Limited internal resources (27%)
· Organizational silos (26%)
“Connecting linear and digital data opens up exciting opportunities in audience targeting and measurement,” said Elizabeth Herbst-Brady, Chief Revenue Officer at Yahoo. “Marketers often face interoperability challenges and need partners and technology platforms to help them harmonize metrics, data, and audiences.”
FOX and Get Lit are continuing their year-long multicultural collaboration creating impactful videos this May, as a part of #TVFORALL. We could all use a little bit more laughter as we continue to navigate today’s crazy world,” said Noah. “By bringing ‘Mock the Week’ to America with the talented Dan Patterson, I’m looking forward to doing just that.”
Also getting the go-ahead at Amazon Freevee is reality series “The GOAT,” which will test fan favorite stars from other reality shows with mental and physical challenges. TECH TALK
Overall publisher concern about the impact of cookie deprecation on their business remains consistent year-over-year, with 60% of publisher respondents indicating they were either “very concerned” or “moderately concerned,” according to DoubleVerify report “Post-Cookie Questions: The Evolution of Advertising Strategies and Sentiments.” However, those who stated “very concerned” decreased year-over-year by one-quarter (25%).
