Alan Cummings (“The Good Wife”) is set to host Peacock competition series “The Traitors.” Based on a Dutch format, the series from Studio Lambert Scotland is set in a remote castle in Scotland, where contestants must contend with three traitors trying to deceive and manipulate them.
“Legends of Tomorrow” has been canceled by The CW after seven seasons. “This has been the journey of a lifetime for all of us. The little show that wasn’t supposed to be, grew into the show that could be anything it wanted,” said the Twitter account for the show’s writers room. Also canceled by The CW is “Batwoman,” after three seasons
Streaming platforms in the UK are expected to be subject to the Broadcasting Code that regulates linear broadcasters, according to a new policy document. The code calls for platforms to ensure viewers are protected from offensive material, and adhere to principles of fairness, accuracy and privacy. No problem, responded Netflix, saying, “We look forward to reviewing the White Paper’s other proposals and continuing to engage with the government on their plans.”
Two days after announcing on CBS’ “The Late Late Show” that he’d be leaving in 2023 after what will be eight and a half years, James Corden appeared in a video at the White House Correspondents Dinner. In a skit set at the White House, Corden meets with President Biden and Jen Psaki to ask for a job. He flubs a press briefing, telling a reporter, “I don’t want to speak for the president, it’s not really my place to speak for him.” (“Isn’t that … literally your job?” she responds.) Corden’s CBS contract was set to expire in August, but he extended it for one year. CBS President and CEO George Cheeks said, “We wish he could stay longer, but we are very proud he made CBS his American home.” As for next season, “We are going to go out with a bang,” promised Corden.
It’s back to in-person for the TCA summer press tour. The Television Critics Association event is slated for July 27-August 13 at the Langham Hotel in Pasadena.
Country music star Naomi Judd died suddenly on April 30 at age 76. Judd and her singing partner and daughter, Wynonna, were to star in “Icon,” an anthology series project in development at Fox. “We are deeply saddened about the tragic loss of Naomi Judd,” Fox said in a statement. “A true giant and beloved by all, her work in music, film and television will forever entertain and inspire millions of people across the globe. Our thoughts are with the entire Judd family, their friends, loved ones and loyal fans.”

Netflix has renewed “Palpito” for a second season. The Spanish-language drama premiered April 20, and has reached 68.4 million hours viewed. Not surprisingly, the streamer has signed creator Leonardo Padron to a multi-year exclusive creative partnership for series and films. “Working with a creator of the professional caliber of Padrón lends the possibility of creating profound, original, and impactful stories,” said Roberto Stopello, VP of Series, Latam Content at Netflix. “We’re very excited to continue bringing our Latin American content to the entire world.”
Also coming back for a sophomore run is Apple TV+’s “Pachinko.” The drama, following four generations of a Korean immigrant family, is based on the 2017 bestseller. “Words cannot express my joy in being able to continue telling the extraordinary story of this indomitable family,” said creator, writer and executive producer Soo Hugh. “I’m grateful to the amazing team at Apple and Media Res studio for believing and supporting this show and to our passionate fans who have cheered us on.”
At the first Disney Junior Fun Fest, the network announced new programming debuting across Disney+ and Disney Junior platforms through 2024. New original series on the way include “Hey A.J.,” inspired by the family of former Super Bowl champ and children’s book author Martellus Bennett; animated musical series “Kindergarten: The Musical”; “Robogobo,” centered on five adopted pets given superpowered suits; and “Superkitties,” following superhero kittens. “Alice’s Wonderland Bakery” was renewed for a second season.
“The Equalizer” showrunners Andrew W. Harlow and Terri Edda Miller are stepping down after two seasons at the CBS reboot, replaced by Joseph C. Wilson, who has been with the show since season one, and Adam Glass (“The Chi”). While the show hasn’t yet been renewed, its strong ratings make a third season order highly likely.
Scout Productions and Bloomberg Media are teaming to produce a series based on a Bloomberg story about the measures taken by Airbnb to respond to safety incidents and criminal activity at its rentals. “We were immediately enthralled by Olivia Carville’s story, investigating one of the most globally recognized hospitality brands, and this partnership with Bloomberg Media will allow us to uncover the truths behind Airbnb’s process for addressing crimes,” said Joel Chiodi, Head of Documentaries and SVP of Strategic Development at Scout Productions. “This series is a perfect fit for Scout’s documentary slate, focused on captivating, authentic and relatable real-life stories.”
Hulu has ordered limited series “We Were the Lucky Ones,” starring Joey King (“The Act”) and based on Georgia Hunter’s novel about a Jewish family separated at the start of WWII. The eight-parter comes from Old 320 Sycamore and 20th Television.

NBCUniversal announced a strategic investment and partnership with tvScientific to launch Peacock Ad Manager, a self-service ad buying platform with full-funnel attribution measurement. The end-to-end performance marketing solution enables marketers to enter their budget, choose their target audience and KPIs, upload their creative, and measure delivery as well as performance. “Peacock AX has been driving business results for the largest global brands, and now with the launch of Peacock Ad Manager, millions of performance advertisers, local advertisers, and small and medium-sized companies can more easily access premium CTV to grow their businesses,” said Krishan Bhatia, President and Chief Business Officer, NBCUniversal. “This partnership will allow us to unlock advanced targeting, performance insights, and attribution for the many advertisers who don’t have existing DSP relationships.” Peacock Ad Manager is slated to launch in the second half of 2022.
Tubi is working on an expansion of its current integration with Nielsen that will allow for enhanced and comprehensive measurement through Nielsen’s Digital Ad Ratings product. The integration with Nielsen DAR will advance advertiser need for third-party measurement in the ad-supported OTT space, including co-viewing measurement. “This upcoming device coverage replaces slim proxies with comprehensive and stable currency-grade measurement, allowing our advertisers to transact on audiences in a way that is apples-to-apples with traditional TV,” said Mark Rotblat, Chief Revenue Officer at Tubi, a division of Fox Entertainment. “
Documentary streamer MagellanTV is now available to Comcast and Cox customers via the MagellanTV app, across Comcast’s Xfinity X1, Xfinity Flex and XClass TV entertainment platforms, and Cox’s Contour devices. “We’re excited for doc-lovers to now have access to Magella TV through Comcast and Cox,” said MagellanTV Managing Director Greg Diefenbach. “As the popularity of documentaries continues to rise, it’s a pleasure to keep offering viewers new avenues for accessing our platform.”
