E! confirmed on Friday the launch of a “ground-breaking, authentic” reality series following former Olympian Bruce Jenner’s life as a transgender woman. “This series will present an unfiltered look as Bruce boldly steps into uncharted territory and is true to himself for the first time,” said Jeff Olde, EVP, programming and development. Eight-parter premieres Sunday, July 26 at 9p.

Any doubts about public interest in Jenner’s transition were vanquished when Nielsen ratings came in for ABC’s 20/20: Bruce Jenner – The Interview. The two-hour special was Friday’s top show in total viewers (16.9 million and A18-49 (5.2/17), and the biggest Friday non-sports telecast since 2003 in young adults.

IN THE NEWS

Comcast officially pulled the plug Friday on its plan to buy Time Warner Cable, a $45.2 billion deal in the works since February of last year. “It wasn’t going to happen,” CEO Brian Roberts told CNBC. “That’s the judgment we heard the government had reached.” The agreement was structured so the company does not have to pay a break-up fee.

NBC’s investigation into Brian Williams’ reporting has turned up six instances of questionable statements, according to the New York Times. One newly-uncovered incident involved discrepancies in the NBC News anchor’s reporting from Tahrir Square in Cairo in 2011. The review of Williams’ work is not completed and no conclusions have been reached, said the Times. Williams remains under six-month suspension.

The Daytime Emmys were handed out this weekend, with Creative Arts categories presented Friday at an event at the Universal Hilton, and a live telecast on Pop on Sunday. Of note: a three-way tie for Special Guest Performer in a Drama Series, between Donna Mills (General Hospital), Fred Willard(The Bold and the Beautiful) and Ray Wise (The Young and the Restless). Discovery Family Channel’s R.L. Stine’s The Haunting Hour: The Series was named Outstanding Children’s Series, and The People’s Court Outstanding Legal Program. Outstanding Morning Program went to CBS Sunday Morning, Live! With Kelly & Michael won Outstanding Talk Sow Host and Jeopardy won Outstanding Game Show. For a complete list of winner, go here.

Jake Tapper was named anchor of CNN’s State of the Union, replacing Candy Crowley, who left in December. Tapper will remain CNN’s chief Washington correspondent and anchor of The Lead.

Discovery renewed Deadliest Catch for season 12. The 13-time Emmy winner from Original Productions is up 7 percent in P25-54 and total viewers versus last season’s average. Series airs Tuesdays at 9p.

Three months after its launch, Justice Network has helped recover a missing child. The multicast net’s 30-second message about a Houston girl who had been missing since 2013 led to a tip from a viewer that was forwarded to law enforcement, and resulted in the her rescue. “Someone watching the Justice Network recognized this child and did the right thing,” said John Walsh (America’s Most Wanted), host and spokesperson for the net.
