George Stephanopoulos is sticking around Good Morning America. The ABC morning show host signed a contract extension, as co-host Robin Roberts did in late 2013. Included in the deal is his hosting gig on This Week. "We are thrilled that the team is locked in," said ABC News, which lost GMA regulars Sam Champion to The Weather Channel and Josh Elliot to NBC Sports, but promoted Lara Spencer to GMA co-host last week.

IN THE NEWS

After scuttling Everest Jump Live in the wake of the peak’s deadly avalanche, Discovery announced it will air Everest Avalanche Tragedy on Sunday, May 4 at 9p. "We were at Mt. Everest to make history, but instead we were there as eyewitnesses to history," said Eileen O’Neill, group president, Discovery, Science and Velocity. "It is essential to tell this story and honor all the Sherpas who lost their lives." Like Everest Jump Live, which was to have documented the first wing suit flight off the top of the mountain, the new special will come from NBC NewsPeacock Productions.

Time Warner Cable stemmed the tide of lost subscribers, finishing the quarter down 34,000 for the first quarter, versus 217,000 in 4Q13. TWC also added a healthy 269,000 Internet subs, reported the company. As for the planned Comcast deal, "The regulatory approval process is going very much as planned," said Time Warner CEO Rob Marcus.

With a renewal up in the air, Warner Bros. is scouting for a possible new home for The Mentalist in the event CBS doesn’t pick up the crime drama for a seventh season, reports EW. Series creator Bruno Heller told EW the finale is being written to work in any event. "It will be a very pleasing and satisfying series finale if that’s what happens," said Heller, "and if not, it’s a very pleasing and satisfying precursor to a new season." Season six’s ratings are down 9 percent, averaging 11.6 million viewers and 2.1 rating among A18-49, including DVR playback.

The fourth and final season – most sincerely – of The Killing will be released on Netflix August 1. The crime drama, canceled twice on AMC, was resurrected for a six-ep wrap-up by the streaming service.

No laughing matter? John Oliver‘s first guest on his HBO late-night topical comedy series, Last Week Tonight, will be former director of the National Security Agency and U.S. Cyber Command Gen. Keith Alexander. It’s Alexander’s first interview since retiring.
