IN THE NEWS

Sorry, Netflix. Amazon.com struck a deal with HBO for exclusive SVOD rights for past seasons of certain HBO programs including The Sopranos, The Wire, Deadwood and Boardwalk Empire. Girls, Newsroom and Veep will eventually be available as well, about three years after air. New shows are not part of the deal – for that, viewers still have to sign up for HBO.

AOL struck a non-exclusive deal with Miramax to air some of the entertainment company’s movies, with ads, starting Wednesday, April 30. Miramax will have its own channel on AOL, making "tens of films" available on a rotating basis each month. "With our Miramax partnership, we have our first foray into film and long-form," said Ran Harnevo, president of AOL Video, "bringing a cinematic experience to our premium content library and across our connected TV experiences." AOL is in talks with other studios as well.

Dish Network could launch its Internet-TV service as early as this summer, reports Bloomberg. Walt Disney Co. is already onboard, sources tell Bloomberg, and A+E, Turner and CBS have had talks with the satellite-TV operator. The live-streaming service is geared toward light-walleted Millennials who watch on mobile devices.

Netflix announced its first Spanish-language series, a soccer comedy, shooting in Mexico for a 2015 premiere. "We’re confident our members in a market as important to us as Mexico and Latin America will love this family comedy," said Ted Sarandos, chief content officer for the streaming service.

Fox is making a Monday schedule shift. The Bones season finale slotted for May 12 will now air May 19 at 8p, bumping the premiere of Masterchef‘s season five bow to May 26.

Now-unionized post-production editors on NBC‘s Last Comic Standing are back at work after a two-day strike. The reality show reboot is slated for a Thursday, May 22 premiere.

Saturday Night Live alum Andy Samberg (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) will make his hosting debut for the late night sketch comedy’s May 17 finale with St. Vincent as musical guest. Charlize Theron hosts for the second time May 10, with The Black Keys returning for a third time as musical guests.

VH1 canceled pop culture recap show Best Week Ever. Launched in 2004, it was canceled in 2010, but revived in 2012. The series "served as a national launching pad for many talented creatives and comedians," said the net in a statement. "We thank them, and the viewers who tuned in each week."

The VMAs are headed back to Southern California. MTV announced via video Wednesday that the 2014 music awards show will air live from the newly renovated Forum in Inglewood, CA on Sunday, August 24. Last year, the show – you might remember a little performance by Miley Cyrus and Robin Thicke? – was broadcast from Brooklyn’s Barclay’s Center.

FourthWall Media announced that Reveal 3.0, which reports television viewership data "down to the second," is being made commercially available through FourthWall’s MassiveData division, delivering television usage data from millions of set-top boxes in 96 markets across the country. Said Bill Feininger, GM, MassiveData and SVP, media measurement for FourthWall, "We believe our second-by-second viewership data collected from millions of digital cable set-top boxes of every make and model provides the foundation for actionable insights that have never been available in such a timely fashion."

Portlandia is teaming with artist Jason Polan and artist collective Mr. GIF for drawing recaps and GIFs on IFC.com, highlighting memorable moments from the IFC comedy through its season finale on Thursday, May 1 at 10p.

CBS comedy Bad Teacher, adapted from the 2011 movie, premieres tonight; Investigation Discovery three-parter Bad Teachers, involving lust, exploitation and felony seduction, launched Tuesday. Coincidence? "It’s simple schoolyard arithmetic," Discovery group president (ID, Destination America, Discovery Fit & Heath and AHC) Henry Schleiff tells Cynopsis. "ID’s Bad Teachers plus CBS’ Bad Teacher equals high ratings for both!"

BRANDS & ADVERTISING

MillerCoors signed on to become the exclusive beer sponsor of FX Networks programs, including integrations in current shows on FX, FXX and FXM shows, and first-look placement rights on shows in development. The suds company also has a deal with Turner for TNT and TBS.

There’s more brewing: Bud Light is teaming with Telemundo for music reality competition series Buscando Mi Ritmo, premiering Saturday, July 19 at 6p. Contestants will be seen in a Bud Light-branded lounge as they await the judges’ decisions, and Telemundo and Bud Light will co-host a dedicated digital hub with exclusive interviews, a rank-it-tool, and a viewer voting section. "The pairing of the adventurous spirit of Bud Light with Telemundo’s total market approach to reaching the U.S. Hispanic is a natural collaboration," said Mike Rosen, EVP of ad sales, Telemundo Media.

AT THE UPFRONTS

Six-month-old Revolt‘s Upfront bash was like no other. "That Millennial s*** is whack," music net founder Sean Combs told the packed house at NYC’s Marquee Tuesday Night. "No one likes to be called that. I’m coming up with a new name." Combs did come up with a new name for the Upfront: Omni-front, to describe the brand’s diverse multi-platform content.

The music mogul’s pitch to advertisers: Join the party. "I’m telling you we’re going to be available in over a billion devices in five years," said Combs. Execs including CEO Keith Clinkscales, who boasted of "an impressive slate of new brand initiatives that underscore our commitment to being the most accessible name in music on every platform," president and co-founder Andy Schuon, EVP programming and production Val Boreland all made the case for a brand that understands the "festival generation."

VP of audience insights Jake Katz unveiled a "Road to Truth" study, which found Millennials place value on brands that have a point of view, take risks and project irreverence. The big announcement of the night was a new, free Revolt app for iOS and Android devices. "We are living our own audience insights by releasing our app early," said Katz. "By putting the unfinished product in the hands of our audience, we will be able to build its design to be radically intuitive based on their feedback, but more importantly let the early fans champion it into the culture."

The night featured net talent including DJ Damage and Sibley, and performances by Childish Gambino and Dillon Francis.
