Carol Burnett will guest star in the season finale of Hallmark Channel‘s Signed, Sealed, Delivered, as the grandmother of one of the mail detectives. Burnett did a special guest turn on a 1997 episode of Touched By an Angel, also produced by Signed’s Martha Williamson. Hallmark series premiere is Sunday, April 20 at 8p.

IN THE NEWS

Investigative reporter Michael Isikoff is out at NBC News. "It’s fair to say there was a mutual agreement that this was a situation that was no longer working out," Isikoff told The Washington Post‘s Erik Wemple. "We’re grateful for all he’s done and wish him the very best," said senior executive producer of NBC News Richard Esposito.

Disney‘s deal for Maker Studios hit another road bump Monday, but emerged intact. Days after former Maker execs applied for a temporary restraining order intended to halt proceedings, alleging breach of contract, Relativity stepped in with what it said was an offer "superior" to Disney’s base $500 million for the online multichannel company. But a California court rejected the restraining order request, and the deal was approved by Maker’s board and the majority of its shareholders. Subject to regulatory approval, the merger is expected to close in a few weeks.

Horror-themed FEARnet, launched in 2006 as a partnership between Comcast, Lionsgate and Sony, will be folded into Comcast’s NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment division, reports Deadline. MSNBC and NowThis News, specializing in short-form news videos, launched video series "15 Seconds to Truth" on Monday. The segments, uncovering "a truth hidden behind the day’s conventional wisdom and spin," will run on the network and across social and mobile platforms, building on NBCUniversal and NowThis New’s recently formed partnership.

TV Land is getting Younger. The net issued a 12-ep order for the comedy from Darren Star (Sex and the City), to be produced in the Big Apple and premiere in fall 2014. Sutton Foster (Bunheads), Hilary Duff (Lizzie McGuire), Debi Mazar (Entourage) and Miriam Shor (GCB) star.

Producer Done + Dusted won two gold medals at the NAB show last week in Las Vegas, for collaborations in the Special Event category for the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show 2013, and in the Variety Special category for Kelly Clarkson’s Cautionary Christmas Music Tale 2013.

Netflix‘s Hemlock Grove is back for season two on Friday, July 11 at 12:01a. "It’s going to blow away all expectations," promised exec producer Eli Roth. "Whenever we wanted to take the story in a dangerous direction, [Netflix] encouraged us to go even further – into a scarier, darker and sexier place." All ten eps of the supernatural thriller will be available at launch in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Ireland, Latin America and the Nordics and Netherlands.

USA renewed Chrisley Knows Best for a sophomore season. Season one finale of the reality show, which delivered a best-yet 823,000 P18-49 and 1.2 million viewers P2+ on Tuesday, airs April 22 at 10p.

RATINGS

In Live + 7 numbers for the week of March 24, Modern Family finished as the week’s top broadcast show in A18-49, beating NBC‘s The Voice by 31 percent (5.9 versus 4.5).

HBO‘s Game of Thrones drew 6.3 million viewers on Sunday, its second best after last week’s fourth season premiere (6.6 million). Including an 11p encore, the number rises to 8 million.

The premiere of the seventh and final season of AMC‘s Mad Men Sunday delivered 2.3 million total viewers, down from season six’s 3.4 million viewers and the lowest since 2008. On the plus side: the show is the most upscale-skewing show in ad-supported television in the demo, according to Nielsen, and was the number one television show on iTunes.

The first of three installments of Golf Channel event Arnie was the most-watched original film on the net’s history, with Sunday’s showing drawing 471,000 viewers. Conclusion airs tonight, April 15 at 10p.

EXECUTIVE MOVES

Howard T. Owens is stepping down as President of National Geographic Channels in June. "Howard injected remarkable energy into the National Geographic Channels brand," said CEO David Lyle. "He has been an invaluable member of our leadership team."

Steve Koonin exited his post as President of Turner Entertainment Networks to become part owner and CEO of the Atlanta Hawks basketball team. Koonin had had held the Turner post, overseeing TNT, TBS, truTV and TCM, since 2000. 

Discovery Communications upped Rita Mullin to General Manager, Science Channel, effective June 2. Mullin had been Executive Vice President, Programming and Development at OWN.

Brad Bessey has been promoted to oversee both Entertainment Tonight and The Insider for CBS Television Distribution. Bessey had been Executive Producer of The Insider; in his expanded role, he adds the title to ET.

Vernon Church has been appointed to the newly created role of COO at TruthCo. Previously, Church managed end-to-end digital, content, social and operational solutions for media businesses from his consultancy, Cakeworthy Advisors.
