NEW PROGRAMMING + DEALS

 
Just off of the success of Two Bellman, Marriott Content Studio unveiled details of its next project, to debut in May. Called French Kiss, the romantic short stars Tyler Ritter (The McCarthys) and model/actress Margot Luciarte. Said Executive Producer Kim Moses, “In an era when everyone has their eyes glued to their digital devices, French Kiss delivers the universal message that the best way to travel brilliantly is ‘eyes forward.’ It’s what Ethan discovers as he’s led on a magical journey by the mysterious Margaux." French Kiss will premiere on YouTube on May 19. Marriott launched the studio in September 2014.
 
Hearst streamed 18 live broadcasts across Twitter’s Periscope last night, each under the theme of “Bedtime Stories.” The content will feature editors, talent and social influencers talking about their pre-bed rituals, favorite recipes, Hearst publication news or literally reading bedtime stories. “It’s an experiment in live programming,” Hearst Magazine Digital Media president Troy Young told Variety. “We’re trying to learn about live and broadcast in this particular environment.”
 
Kids SVOD service Hopster will launch globally in more than 100 countries worldwide through content deals with Corus Entertainment’s Nelvana, Millimages, CAKE and EarthTree Media. Hopster is available for free from the App Store on iPad, iPhone and iPod touch, and connected TV devices.
 
Cartoon Network is going down – Down Under, that is. Turner Broadcasting System Asia Pacific is bringing its Cartoon Network Watch and Play app to Australia, allowing Foxtel subscribers to live stream the network within the app via a new authenticated service. Aside from live streaming, new features include access to recent episodes of popular shows including Adventure Time, Clarence, Regular Show, The Amazing World of Gumball and Ben 10: Omniverse, as well as additional native arcade-style games.
 
 

CONTENT MEDIA
 

The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced the winners for this year’s International Digital Emmy Awards during a ceremony at MIPTV’s opening night festivities on April 12 in Cannes. They include Dina Foxx – Tödlicher Kontakt (Dina Foxx – Deadly Contact) (ZDF / UFA / Exozet) and Reverse the Odds, (Maverick Television / Chunk / Channel 4 / Cancer Research UK) and Last Hijack Interactive (Submarine Channel / Razor Film / ZDF / IKON). The Pioneer Prize was presented to Brian Robbins, Founder & CEO AwesomenessTV.
 
BET is reuniting the cast of Being Mary Jane online after the season two finale today at 9p ET. The web reunion will feature conversations with Gabrielle Union, Lisa Vidal, Raven Goodwin, LaTarsha Rose, Stephen Bishop, Thomas Q. Jones and show creator and executive producer Mara Brock Akil. TheYBF.com’s Natasha Eubanks will serve as social media curator, providing insights and questions for the cast.

Music streaming service Spotify is working to raise new funding that would value the company at $8 billion, according to Bloomberg. The last round of financing brought in $400 million in November 2013, which included investors Goldman Sachs Group and an Abu Dhabi sovereign wealth fund. Spotify has more than 60 million users, consisting of both paying subscribers and free members.
