NEW PROGRAMMING + DEALS

DailyMotion debuted a new original web series called Jump Outs at the MIP Digital Fronts event in Cannes, France yesterday. The half-hour reality show pits contestants against elite police units known as Jump Out Boys. "We want the show to have the irreverent feel of a videogame like Grand Theft Auto, scored with hip-hop music, but in a structure that’s recognizable enough for a TV format and an online sensibility," the show producer Tom Banister of SXM told TubeFilter. DailyMotion recently allotted $3 million for similar web projects. No release date has been announced.

One of the first projects from the new CNN Digital Studios is a news show built for Twitter. Called Your 15 Second Morning, the show will take on a similar format to Now This News (owned by NBCU) with bite-sized clips. CMO Today reports that that CNN DS has also lined up Dave Franco (brother of James Franco) for Related with Dave Franco, which will be co-produced by Funny or Die.

Discovery Digital Networks turned to YouTube stars for its two newest series, Anyhoo and Cute Combat. Anyhoo is a daily show available at Revision 3 and YouTube, hosted by Catie Wayne (Boxxy), Tay Zonday (Chocolate Rain) and Tara Long (Revision3‘s Rev3Games and Destructoid) chatting about the latest online buzz. Animalist‘s Cute Combat features YT’s Lucas Cruikshank (Lucas & Jenny) searching for the most adorable animal video ever. Viewers can help him decide who will reign as "King of Cute."

NBC is launching an online search for comedy writers. Two winners of "NBC Comedy Playground" will have the chance to create shows to air on the net in summer 2015; celebs involved in selecting the top concepts include Eva Longoria, Sean Hayes, Mindy Kaling and Seth Meyers. Another winner, decided by public vote, lands an online comedy. Applications accepted at http://NBCComedyPlayground.com starting May.

CONTENT MEDIA

Amazon Studios third pilot season has officially taken off with The Cosmopolitans and Hand of God. The Cosmopolitans is a half-hour dramedy about American exiles in Paris, and features Adam Brody (The O.C.) and Chloe Sevigny (Big Love). Hand of God is an hour-long drama about a judge’s religious awakening that stars Ron Perlman (Hellboy) and Dana Delany (Body of Proof). Both will be included in Amazon’s pilot-testing program before slated for a full season.

Hulu original series Deadbeat launched all ten episodes on Hulu Plus yesterday, with two available on the free service and a new ep released every week. The supernatural comedy stars Tyler Labine (Reaper), Brandon T. Jackson (Tropic Thunder) and Cat Deeley (So You Think You Can Dance).

Multi-platform comedy series Annoying Orange surpassed two billion views on its YouTube channel. The Collective Digital Studio channel has more than 3.6 million subscribers, and 330 videos since launching in 2010. "It’s not everyday that a channel reaches two billion views, so it’s awesome to see Annoying Orange at such an elite level," AO creator Dane Boedigheimer (Daneboe) said. "Seeing the responses from the fans, we’re planning more episodes that will undoubtedly make people laugh, cringe and be annoyed." The channel’s creators recently launched a new animated show, called The Misfortune of Being Ned.

Yahoo has been taking notes from Netflix and Amazon, and may be leaping into online video content and original TV series as well. The tech giant is supposedly close to ordering four original web series in advance of its Digital New Front event on April 28.

Viacom music channel Palladia renewed Live from Daryl’s House. It will premiere in early 2015 on Palladia, the VH1 app and lfdh.com. The show features rocker Daryl Hall interviewing rock, soul, country and R&B legends. Past visitors include Rob Thomas, Smokey Robinson and Gavin DeGraw.

ADVERTISING

Smirnoff‘s new "Exclusivity Is for Everybody" campaign features Alison Brie (Community) and Adam Scott (Parks and Recreation) as two friends planning a party, in a long-form digital film as well as six 30-second spots. The creative, from 72andSunny, is being introduced with a fully integrated campaign across all media and a national partnership with Spotify for an "Ultimate House Party" sweepstakes.

TECHNOLOGY

The Comcast and Time Warner Cable‘s filing to the FCC yesterday mentioned a new Apple set-top-box in addition to Apple TV. The Wall Street Journal reported earlier this year on a potential new Apple set-top-box, but the merger may be crucial to moving the development along. The Guardian reports the new set-top-box is expected to feature gaming, making it comparable to Amazon‘s Fire TV device.

RESEARCH

Ipsos and Crowdtap revealed in a study that millennials feel that user-generated-content (UGC) has it all over traditional media. Mashable reports UGC is 20 percent more influential when it comes to purchases, 35 percent more memorable than other media, and that overall, millennials spend five hours a day on UGC. Millennials also consider UGC 59 percent of the time when purchasing major electronics, and 46 percent of the time when buying mobile phones.

EXEC MOVES

NBCUniversal has named Alison Moore as Head of TV Everywhere. Previously, she was the General Manager for the recently shut down (and NBCU owned) site DailyCandy.

Bobbi Brown has joined Yahoo as Editor in Chief of Beauty. Brown is the Chief Creative Officer of Bobbi Brown Cosmetics and a New York Times bestselling author. "In my career as a makeup artist, I’ve also had the amazing opportunity to write, create and teach," Brown said. "In this new role, I get to combine my interest in education and empowerment by curating amazing visual content that will teach women how to their best selves."

Dstillery appointed Paul Cushman as Strategic Advisor. Formerly, Cushman was the Vice President of Sales and business Development for Drawbridge and Head of Sales of Yahoo! Mobile.

Mobile video advertising company Vdopia has hired Farzad Jamal as Vice President, Europe. He most recently was the Commercial Director of EMEA, OpenX.
