The original stars of Twin Peaks, including Sherilyn Fenn, Sheryl Lee, James Marshall and Peggy Lipton, filmed a video backing co-creator David Lynch, who announced Sunday he was exiting the drama’s planned revival on Showtime. The actors refer to the show without Lynch as “a dog without a bark,” “pies without cherries,” and “fire without heat.” Lynch said Sunday there was "not enough money offered to do the script the way I felt needed to be done.”

Kathy Bates joined the cast of American Horror Story: Hotel, the fifth installment of Ryan Murphy’s hit anthology series. Bates previously starred in AHS: Freak Show and AHS: Coven, for which she won an Emmy Award. Already onboard: Lady Gaga, Matt Bomer, Cheyenne Jackson, Wes Bentley and Chloe Sevigny.
Amazon Studios cast its untitled series about 18th century lover and spy Casanova. Diego Luna (Elysium, Milk) will tackle the lead role, Ben Daniels (House of Cards) will play Francois-Joachim de Bernis, and Miranda Richardson (Harry Potter) will portray Marquise d’Urfe. Currently in pre-production, the series will shoot in Paris, Venice and Hungary.
Sling TV, Dish Network‘s over-the-top Internet streaming service, will launch HBO by Saturday, April 11. Cost: an additional $15 per month. The launch precedes the season five premiere of Game of Thrones on Sunday.
TV Land added Freaks and Geeks to the list of honorees for the 2015 TV Land Awards. The cult comedy, which aired on NBC for one season from 1999 to 2000, will receive the 15th Anniversary Award. Ceremony airs Saturday, April 18 at 9p.
PBS and BBC’s Arena will partner on American Epic, a three-part series exec produced by Robert Redford, T Bone Burnett and Jack White (White Stripes), detailing the first recordings of American roots music in the 1920s. “This is America’s greatest untold story. It’s an account of the cultural revolution that ultimately united a nation,” said Redford. The series will be followed by a feature film, The American Epic Sessions, with performances by stars including White, Alabama Shakes, Merle Haggard and Elton John.
The producers of NOVA have teamed with PBS Digital Studios to launch new Youtube series Gross Science, promising disgusting and bizarre stories pulled from nature, history, medicine and engineering. New episodes will premiere weekly on the "Gross Science" YouTube Channel.
Country Music Hall of Fame inductee and 20-time Grammy winner Vince Gill sits down with Dan Rather for an in-depth, hour-long interview about his personal life and career on The Big Interview. The show airs Tuesday, April 21 at 8p on AXS TV.
Ovation TV presents the television premiere of Isabella Rossellini‘s Green Porno Live! on Sunday May 17 at 8p. The special takes viewers around the world with the Rosselini as she prepares for and performs her one-woman show about mating and sexual habits in the wild kingdom. "Green Porno started as a little experiment for a two-minute short film,” said Rossellini. “I would have never imagined that I would produce almost 40 short films, publish a book, write a monologue with the great Jean-Claude Carriere and perform it in over 40 cities on three continents.”
FOX picked up comedy The Last Man on Earth for a second season. “We knew we had something special with The Last Man on Earth. It’s one of those rare shows that continues to add depth and dimension to its unique premise, week after week,” said David Madden, President, Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company.
FOX also confirmed that The Strain will return for a second season this summer. A premiere date has yet to be announced.
Disney Channel set Monday, May 11, for the second season premiere of Girl Meets World. In addition, one new episode of the show will debut each night from May 12-15.
Ace Metrix released the top scoring ads of 1Q15 across 30 categories. Of the winners, five ads from Android, Budweiser, McDonald’s, Dove and Prudential Investments outperformed their competitive set by at least 20 percent, significantly above average. Six of the 30 ads are considered Super Bowl ads, including McDonald’s “Pay with Lovin,” which earned an Ace Score of 706 the only ad to achieve a score above 700.
TV One entered a multi-year distribution agreement with Charter Communications. Under the pact’s terms, Charter subscribers will continue to receive a robust offering of programming, including original series like Unsung and Unsung Hollywood, reality series R&B Divas LA and Hollywood Divas, exclusive original and News One Now.
Jimmy Jean-Louis is the latest Heroes actor tapped for NBC’s Heroes Return. He’ll reprise his role as the mind-erasing Haitian in a story arc.
John O’Hurley (Seinfeld) has joined the third season cast of Devious Maids. Lifetime series returns Monday, June 1.
Independent UK based distributor DCD Rights is set to launch the US version of Penn & Teller: Fool Us at MIP-TV 2015, with pre-sale to NBCUniversal International Television for Universal Channel in Asia.
Corona Television and FremantleMedia International struck a deal for The Fight. Written and to be directed by Stephen Kay (Covert Affairs), the series follows conflict photographer, Riley Miller and journalist Carroll Hobbs as they journey across the continents.
Banijay Group announced the launch of a Spanish version of its Non Stop People channel. Beginning June 1, 2015, Non Stop People Spain will broadcast 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, featuring local and international entertainment and celebrity news. The channel will air exclusively on Telefonica’s Movistar TV platform.
Scorpion TV secured distribution rights to the historical documentary Andrew Carnegie: Rags to Riches, Power to Peace from Galeforce Films. The film is scheduled to air on BBC Scotland later this year.
France’s Atlantique Productions and Italy’s Cattleya are collaborating to turn two major properties into TV series. Spaghetti Western Django will be re-imagined with the grit and edginess of modern TV dramas, while Suspiria De Profundis will be an English-language period horror series.
Canada’s Picture Box Distribution has acquired Mark Media documentary Confucius Was a Foodie. The new series, available in English, Mandarin and Cantonese, features celebrity chef Christine Cushing as she explores the history and role of Chinese cuisine in North America.

Dynamic Television sold Syfy‘s Z Nation to Pick (UK), Universal Networks (Australia & Germany), RTL2 (Germany), Canal Plus (France), AXN Italy, Leone Film Group, Telenet (Belgium), Sohu (China), Puls (Poland), Viasat (Hungary), Sky (New Zealand), Hollywood Movie Channel (Taiwan), KMH (Korea) and Netflix (Worldwide).

With the help of Impact Wrestling, Destination America recorded its best first quarter ever among HH, P2+ and M25-54/18-49 Prime delivery for 1Q15 and ranks in the top-20 fastest growing ad-supported cable networks among HH and P2+ delivery for the quarter. Since its launch, Impact Wrestling has garnered 6.119 million unique viewers.
With 3-day playback factored in, the premiere of Spike’s Lip Sync Battle on Thursday, April 2 drew a record 3.2 million viewers for the channel. This marks the most-watched series premiere in network history and second most-watched original series telecast. Lip Sync Battle tallied a 2.0 rating among A18-49, the second highest for an original series in channel history.
FOX’s Empire has continued to break records on Xfinity On Demand throughout its premiere season. The show’s premiere episode was viewed more than 3.5 million times on XOD. In total, Empire episodes were viewed nearly 23 million times on XOD.
History took the top spot in Brand Index, Buzz and Quality among cable nets for the first quarter of 2015 in total respondents, according to YouGov’s BrandIndex. It’s the 14th consecutive quarter that the network has ranked first for Buzz among all networks, and the tenth straight quarter it ranked as the Highest Quality network.
Tuesday A18-49 Analysis: NBC led with the most A18-49 viewers Monday with 2.4/1, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen. NBC’s The Voice topped 8p with 2.6/9, followed by CBS’s NCIS with 2.1/7. NBC’s The Voice gained ground at 9p with 2.8/9. CBS’s NCIS: New Orleans trailed with 1.7/5. NBC closed out the night in first with 2.0/6 for Chicago Fire at 10p; CBS’s Person of Interest was next with 1.3/4.
