Rupert Murdoch, Lachlan Murdoch, and Fox Corp. board member Paul Ryan are among those who could be forced to testify in Dominion Voting Systems’ defamation suit against Fox News. Said Delaware Judge Eric M. Davis on Wednesday, “If Dominion wants to bring them live, they need to do a trial subpoena and I would not quash it and I would compel them to come.” Dominion claims it was defamed by FNC when hosts and guests claimed in 2020 that its voting systems illegally rigged the election. Fox News told the judge it plans to make available hosts Tucker Carlson, Maria Bartiromo, Sean Hannity, and Bret Baier, as well as Fox News CEO Suzanne Scott and President Jay Wallace to testify in person. Davis warned that January 6 riot, which occurred after the alleged defamation of Dominion, is not relevant “and should be stayed away from.” The trial is scheduled to start April 17.
Showtime’s last late-night series, “Ziwe,” has been canceled after two seasons. The net’s “Desus & Mero” wrapped last year after its hosts decided to “pursue separate creative endeavors.”
Fox News Channel was the most-watched cable news network during coverage of former President Donald Trump’s arraignment on Tuesday, according Nielsen numbers. From 1:30-3:30p, FNC averaged 3215,000 viewers and 469,000 in A25-54, also topping ABC and CBS. During NYC district attorney Alvin Bragg’s address from 4-4:30p, FNC remained the highest-rated network in viewers, delivering 3,231,000 viewers and 448,000 in the news demo. From 8:15-9p, during “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” FNC averaged 6.7 million viewers and 1,134,000 among A24-54 as Trump spoke from Mar-a-Lago.
Nominees for the “2023 MTV Movie & TV Awards” were announced, with “Stranger Things,” “The Last of Us,” “The White Lotus,” Wednesday,” “Wolf Pack,” “Yellowstone” and “Yellowjackets” competing for best show. Among other categories are Best Fight, Best Kick-Ass Cast, Best Kiss and Most Frightened Performance. Fan-voted winners will be announced at the awards ceremony Sunday, May 7 at 8p.
Telemundo morning show “Hoy Dia” is adding a fourth hour beginning Monday, April 10. The new format will run from 7a-11a.
Frontier has dropped Newsmax, Fuse and FM from its lineup, citing the cost of programming. “With the announcement that Frontier is moving away from being a video content provider, we look forward to exploring our distribution options with their video partners,” said Fuse Media said in a statement. As for Newsmax, “Frontier’s decision was clearly political, because they will lose far more money in cancellations and lost business without Newsmax,” said the network.
Apple TV+ handed an early season two renewal for “The Big Door Prize,” starring Chris O’Dowd. The comedy is now streaming on Apple TV+, with new episodes dropping on every Wednesday. Produced by Skydance Television, the second season of “The Big Door Prize” is now in production.
As part of its National Financial Literacy Month efforts, CNBC announced plans for a new financial education initiative, CNBC Your Money. The new initiative is an extension of the CNBC Your Money editorial brand. “Personal finance issues impact our decision making throughout every stage of our lives – from paying for school to buying a home to building a family to saving for retirement,” said KC Sullivan, CNBC President. “Through this initiative, CNBC has the opportunity to help people navigate the financial landscape and provide trusted educational content that empowers them to make informed decisions about their financial wellbeing.”
Hemisphere Media Group has reached an agreement to expand distribution of CentroAméricaTV, the channel dedicated to the Central American community in the US. The network is available on DIRECTV’s Spanish-language package Más Latino. CentroAméricaTV was already part of DIRECTV’s Óptimo Más package.
Canela Media has added new shows and episodes to its content lineup for Canela Kids through its partnership with Moonbug Entertainment. 145 new episodes of Spanish-language content will be available for free, including “Jeuga con Cody” and “Meekah.”

The partnership looks to produce pioneering programming that taps the MLB Film & Video Archive to cover historical and cultural subjects while leveraging access granted by the league to also profile the storylines around the game today.
Orlando Bloom will star in and executive produce a series based on Maggie O’Farrell’s This Must Be The Place, in development at Amazon. Suzanne Heathcote (“Killing Eve”) will write and executive produce. The project comes from Bloom’s Amazing Owl, BBC Studios, House Productions and Amazon Studios.
“Vanderbilt,” chronicling the rise and fall of the American dynasty, is also in development at Amazon. The series, based on the bestseller by CNN host – and son of Gloria Vanderbilt – Anderson Cooper, and Katherine Howe comes from Patrick Macmanus (“Dr. Death”) and Cooper. UCP and Amazon Studios are producing.
Corus Entertainment’s Nelvana has teamed up with Toikido to develop a new animated kids series based on gaming IP, Piñata Smashlings. “Toikido is an innovative new company that has quickly achieved success turning popular gaming properties into toys and apparel for a global audience,” said Pam Westman, President of Nelvana. “Their first in-house IP, Piñata Smashlings, has already garnered massive hype ahead of its launch this summer.”

Showtime spy drama “Ghosts of Beirut,” based on the true story of the manhunt for Imad Mughniyeh, the elusive Lebanese terrorist who outwitted his adversaries in the CIA and Mossad for over two decades, premieres Friday May 19 for streaming subscribers and Sunday, May 21 at 10p on linear.

Food Network spinoff “Summer Baking Championship” premieres with two back-to-back episodes on Monday May 15 at 9p on Food Network. The newest addition to the “Baking Championship” franchise features ten bakers from around the country tackling summer-themed challenges featuring the flavors, ingredients, and celebrations of the season.
“Ana Cabrera Reports,” starring the former CNN anchor, launches on MSNBC on Monday, April 10 at 10a. The show replaces “MSNBC Reports,” which featured rotating hosts.
“Funny or Die’s High Science” makes its debut Thursday, April 20 (of course) on discovery+ and HBO Max. The series stars Matt Klinman and Zack Poitras, featuring Paul Bettany as the voice of futuristic, talking bong “Dr. Oh” who will take Matt and Zack on psychedelic trips of scientific discovery. Episodes will become available to stream at the same time and the series will premiere two episodes weekly beginning April 26 on Discovery Channel.

Circle Network will air the special “Bobby Bones & The Raging Idiots’ 6th Annual Million Dollar Show” on Saturday, April 8 at 10p. Recorded live from the Ryman Auditorium in late February, the sixth annual benefit show features performances and appearances from a range of country music stars.
Opening night of SeriesFest on Friday, May 5 includes the premiere of the CNN Original Series, “The 2010s,” the latest installment of the Decades series from executive producers Tom Hanks, Gary Goetzman, and Mark Herzog. Closing out the festivities on Wednesday, May 10 will be a night of comedy at Red Rocks Amphitheatre with a special screening of Fox comedy “Animal Control” introduced by Joel McHale who, as well as Jay Pharoah and Adam Ray, will do an original stand-up set, along with the previously announced headliner, Chelsea Handler.

Discovering content on FAST services is simple for over 78% of Canadian users, with those surveyed liking the fact they don’t need to think about what to watch, “it’s just on,” according to Free, Easy, FAST, a new research study led by Paramount Global Streaming Research and Insights. For 63% of the people interviewed, the service acts as a companion throughout the day, while 74% per cent of consumers agree that, whatever their mood, there’s always something to watch. And 85% of users agree that good quality content can be accessed for free, with over 80% surprised by the amount of content they can watch for free.
Coinciding with Earth Month, Xumo Play announced the launch of the Xumo Free Nature and Wildlife TV channel, featuring over 150 hours of themed content. “Our new Nature and Wildlife TV channel will offer Xumo Play viewers a wide array of engaging and high-quality nature programming, including two new exclusive documentaries from the Academy award-winning production house, Off the Fence,” said Anthony Layser, Executive Director, Content Acquisition and Programming Strategy, Xumo.
MyOutdoorTV has added five ad-free live TV channels with programming from Outdoor Channel, Sportsman Channel, and the World Fishing Network. Channels include HuntStream, AnglerStream, Late Season Whitetail Channel, The MeatEater Channel and TurkeyStream.

DirecTV for Business and Prime Video have reached a deal that will bring 20 Yankees game to venues across the team’s footprint. The games were previously exclusive to Prime Video. “For decades, DirecTV has given sports fans all over the country access to their favorite teams how and where they want to watch them,” said Rob Thun, DirecTV Chief Content Officer, in a statement. “There arguably isn’t a more fervent fan base in sports than that of the New York Yankees. We look forward to bringing those fans even more Yankees games to watch at their favorite local bars, restaurants and other commercial establishments.”
SailGP has unveiled its expanded season 4 schedule that includes two additional US events in LA and New York, and the return of Chicago and San Francisco as part of its 12-race global circuit spanning four continents from June 2023 – July 2024. Chicago will open Season 4 with the Rolex United States Sail Grank Prix on June 16-17 at the Navy Pier; and San Francisco is set to once again host the Grand Final. Bermuda returns in May 2024, followed by another new location for the league – Canada, which will host an event in June 2024 (venue to be announced).

Two out of three advertisers are considering using metaverse and AR advertising within the next year, according to a new Advertising Research Foundation study using insights from Advertiser Perceptions. Additional findings from the analysis include:
* Marketers are more likely than agencies to use AR, VR and the Metaverse in the next 12 months; 77% said they will use one of these three formats within the next year. Comparatively, 59% of agencies planned to use these channels, with many instead preferring in-game advertising (64%), where the perceived costs of production are lower.
* Audience engagement (41%) and the ability to reach younger audiences (38%) were seen as the top benefits to utilizing AR/VR/Metaverse technology.
* Performance is a potential barrier to adoption: Lack of proof of performance of VR/AR/Metaverse is the top challenge for agencies and marketers (33%), followed by inadequate reach (28%) and possessing the ability to reach the same consumers effectively with other ad formats (28%).
* Virtual advertising techniques are led by branded content (67%), followed by sponsorship, product placement and influencers, each totaling 56%.

Auto brands that are performing the best have aligned their TV campaign messaging with the growing popularity of EVs, according to EDO’s Automotive TV Performance Report. Among the insights: Polestar is in the lead for luxury while GMC leads non-luxury; and EV and hybrid auto ads outperformed traditional gas-powered vehicle ads in 2022 by 19%, with a 173% increase in airings year-over-year.

Season three of BBC Daytime, BBC Northern Ireland and BritBox International drama “Hope Street” has been confirmed with an extended run of 15 episodes. The drama, made by Long Story TV, is set in the fictional town of Port Devine on the Northern Ireland coast and filmed in and around County Down’s seaside town of Donaghadee.
Australia’s Fred Media shared its 2023 MIPTV slate, featuring a range of new and returning series from genres including factual, reality, lifestyle, food and travel. In total, Fred Media will launch almost 130 hours at the market. Among the highlights are reality show “African Royale” from The Africa Channel; food title “4 Ingredients: The Easiest Cooking Show Ever” from Wild Bunch Media; and Pango Productions travel show “Piri’s Tiki Tour.”
