Multi-channel network Collective Digital Studio (CDS), the force behind YouTube hits Video Game High School and channel The Annoying Orange, announced its major investment in Europe’s largest media network ProSiebenSat.1 today. ProSiebenSat.1 formed a MCN Studio 71, which hits 100 million video views a month, and will start receiving video content from CDS and marketing efforts from its in-house SeveonOne Media. “With the ProSiebenSat.1 investment, CDS has gained a strategic partner that will enable us to monetize the global reach of our content… [and] CDS is now poised to become a leading 21st century media company,” CDS Chairman Michael Green said.
Amazon recently dropped not only the shows from Scripps Networks Interactive, but also Discovery Communications programming from Prime Instant Video as well. Variety reports Scripps is losing a whopping $11 million in this year’s licensing revenue from the streaming service, while Discovery is at less of a loss since the deal it made with Amazon in 2012 has since expired. Neither of the companies involved commented, but Discovery still has a deal with Netflix in place and is currently speaking with Amazon to renew a licensing agreement.

Recent Disney acquisition, Maker Studios, announced that it has struck a deal with Vampire Diaries actress Kat Graham to distribute her docu-series Breaking the Record. The show debuted the first of 13 episodes on the YouTube channel, Maker Music (200,000 and more subs) on March 25. Maker will also be in charge of the Graham’s YT and official channel.
King (behind Candy Crush Saga) fell short of its expected $7.6 billion (22.50 a share) valuation, with just a $20.50 opener on the NYSE yesterday. Tech Crunch reports this is a constant struggle for the mobile gaming market; Zynga (Farmville) has declined 75 percent from its 2011 opener at $11 to just under $5 ever since. King made $1.88 billion from Candy Crush in 2013, and holds 97 million daily active users.
MOTOTV and action sport channel network Network A announced a partnership to include Network A programming into MOTOTV’s 14 million viewer network. MOTOTV provides daily digital content for powersport dealerships and retailers across the country.

Hulu is joining the ranks of Netflix in the awards honors yesterday, receiving its first Emmy nomination for its mascot docu-series Behind the Mask. The Emmy is for the Outstanding New Approaches Sports Programming category, and will compete in the 35h Annual Sports Emmy Awards on May 6. The first ten-episode season is currently available on Hulu, and the second season is in pre-production.
Netflix acquired the documentary Print The Legend yesterday, the film that goes behind the scenes of the top 3D Printing shops in America. The doc that was awarded several honors at the SXSW Film Festival will be available to stream this year.
A recent live stream on Twitch of video game tournament, Intel Extreme Masters World Finals, drew more than 23 million total views according Electronic Sports League (ESL). TubeFilter reports the online audience was more than 50 times the live one at the event in Poland, and they watched a total of 12.6 million hours across three days.

Turbo FAST (Fast Action Stunt Team) is rolling out new episodes on Netflix in time for many schools’ spring break holidays. DreamWorks Animation says the second installment of the series will arrive on April 4, with five new episodes based on characters from the 2013 computer animated film Turbo. The first five episodes were released around the 2013 holiday season.
Cynopsis sat down with Wall Street Journal‘s Global Head of Ad Sales Trevor Fellows to discuss what it has in store for the digital content NewFronts event on May 2. DCNF will feature 22 publishers this year, including the founding partners Hulu, YouTube/Google, AOL, DigitasLBI and Microsoft.
How do you think this year’s NewFront will be different from last year’s?
The video market is maturing, although it’s still a young market. I think everyone has a much better understanding of what the opportunity really look like, as well as what’s feasible and what is not.
What do you mean by feasible?
Media owners saw a huge demand that they thought they could satisfy with their own video, saying, “We can grow X percent and sell Y number of impressions.” But they couldn’t deliver the inventory. At WSJ, we think, “How much can we organically grow?” I think we will see more realism from publishers and buyers.
What have buyers been looking for that’s surprising or different?
Demand for more video. In the last few months, there’s been an increasing realization that not all video is great and equal, and that the context really matters. So, we are creating video for them with our custom content studios.
Who are your clients with custom content?
Core drivers are categories like tech, telecommunications, classic B to B. We are seeing early signs from luxury advertisers, though they tend to take a “wait and see” attitude.
Facebook bought virtual reality headset maker Oculus VR for $2 billion yesterday. The social network plans to use the headset originally created for video games across communications, media, entertainment and educational purposes. Sony recently announced its virtual reality component for the PlayStation 4 console called Project Morpheus. Google has already been developing the Google Glass, which allows users to brows the web, use apps, record video and more.
Unruly announced it is opening an office in Los Angeles, and hired Rebecca Witt as Regional sales Vice President, West and Melinda Warren as an Account Executive. Witt was most recently Vice President, Western Region at Collective, and Warren was Senior Executive with YuMe.

Anna Akana, the creator behind YouTube short film hit Hallucination and Facebook series Riley Rewind, released her second YT short yesterday called Afflicted Inc. The four-minute video tackles the topic of anorexia, which is similar to the first film about mental illness. She is expected to release ten more mini films this year on her channel.
