Season Premiere Sunday, April 5 at 10/9c on WGN America

Fox NewsBill O’Reilly guests on CBS’s Late Show With David Letterman tonight to promote NatGeo’s adaptation of his book, Killing Jesus, premiering Sunday, March 29 at 8p. It will be O’Reilly’s first non-Fox sit-down since early into the days after stories broke about the newsman’s alleged reporting embellishments.

Denied access to the Killing Jesus red carpet premiere in NYC Monday night: CNN media reporter Tom Kludt, who has extensively covered the O’Reilly controversy. Kludt took to social media to report his credentials were declined “out of respect” for O’Reilly. Responded Chris Albert, SVP Communications, “CNN had numerous requests for credentials and we needed to limit it to one crew…But we would like to thank Tom for bringing all this extra attention to our premiere tonight.”

IN THE NEWS

Jeremy Clarkson, suspended March 10 from BBC Two’s Top Gear for a “fracas” with a producer, got in more hot water last week. After an expletive-laced appearance at a charity event Thursday, Clarkson explained away his “choice language” as an attempt to boost the auction price of a lap on the Top Gear test track. “By being brief, controversial and a bit sweary, I woke the room up,” said Clarkson. The BBC responded by canceling two live events Clarkson was scheduled to attend on March 27 and 28.

James Belushi and his hammer are headed for DIY. A six-ep series in production now follows the According to Jim alum as he (and a team of experts) build a riverfront cabin in Eagle Point, OR, on 13 acres of a former 19302 Elks picnic ground. And it’s not just for show – just ask Daryl Hall, William Shatner or Vanilla Ice. “When we find an interesting celebrity who is really going through this thing that all of us go through, we follow along,” Kathleen Finch, president of Scripps Networks Interactive Home Category, tells Cynopsis.

Telemundo and NBC Universo announced plans for 560 hours of soccer in 2015, including 344 hours of online and mobile live-streams. It’s the first time all matches of four FIFA Soccer Events are being made available in Spanish nationwide; editorial will focus on storytelling around the development of future soccer stars. The first FIFA tournament will feature the Men’s U-20 national teams, hosted by New Zealand from May 30-June 20.

Rentrak’s national and local TV ratings didn’t get a passing grade – yet – from the Media Rating Council, which deemed the measurement company’s products “not sufficiently compliant” to merit accreditation. The industry watchdog noted it is not unusual for a complex ratings system to not pass its initial audit, and that Rentrak indicated it will take steps to comply in time for a new audit this year. “Television return-path data from MVPDs, once adjusted and audience-attributed, can be a viable source for audience ratings presenting opportunities for enhanced granularity and stability,” said the MRC.

Science Channel and Discovery Education, provider of digital content and professional development for K-12 classrooms, announced the launch of Support Our Science (S.O.S.), designed to engage students and assist teachers in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math, through a combination of digital content, customized educator support, network content and hands-on digital tools. The initiative offers “a great opportunity to get out into the community and touch those who matter most,” Rita Mullin, GM of Science, tells Cynopsis.“Young people need to know about the wealth of STEM opportunities available and this allows us to use our content as a springboard to ignite their passions.”

Almost six weeks into his six-month suspension from NBC Nightly News, Brian Williams made his first public appearance, for a fundraiser to help his endangered Catholic high school alma mater. The 1977 graduate of Mater Dei Prep School in Middletown, NJ was greeted with “warm hugs,” one attendee told community paper The Two River Times. “Everyone was telling him how much they support him.”  Williams donated $50,000 to a fund to help save the school.

CBS president and CEO Leslie Moonves announced a contract extension with CBS News president David Rhodes through February 2019. “CBS News is experiencing division-wide growth,” said Moonves. “David’s exceptional news judgment and competitive acumen has had a great impact so far.” Rhodes has held his post since 2011.

The pilot of USA’s Mr. Robot picked up the audience award in the Epsodics category at the SXSW film festival last week. Production on the drama starring Christian Slater starts April 13 for a June premiere.

PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

Travel Channel is putting on the brakes with the acquisition of Slow TV, an entertainment format created in Norway that had 70 percent of that country’s population riveted to a cruise ship’s live meandering along the coast. During 12 hours starting Black Friday, November 27 at 9a, viewers who aren’t elbowing crowds at the mall will be able “to simply enjoy the stunning, beautiful scenery and realize the only big character in this show is the scenery around us,” said Ross Babbit, Travel’s SVP, programming and development, of live event Slow Road Live.

In a dating/survival competition mash-up, Extreme Love, created by Israel’s Studio Glam, sets would-be suitors competing for love in harsh conditions while the woman they’re fighting for lives in luxury. “The search for the big new dating show has preoccupied industry creatives for quite some time,” said Ami Glam, exec producer of Studio Glam.“Extreme Love takes the TV dating world to the next level.” FremantleMedia is taking the show to MIPTV.

History is developing Knightfall, a drama chronicling the events leading up to and following the persecution, downfall and burning at the stake of the Knights Templar on Friday 13, 1307 (that’s where the unlucky day came from). Show is being produced for A+E Studios in association with actor/producer Jeremy Renner (Fringe) and Don Handfield’s The Combine and Midnight Radio.

COMING UP

WGN America is running the entire first season of Salem on Saturday, April 4 starting at 7a, ahead of its second season premiere Sunday at 10p. Prepare for disease, devastation and a deadly supernatural ritual.

British adventurer Steve Backshall treks from pole to pole braving predators like polar bears and rattlesnakes for Weird Wild and Deadly, premiering on Discovery Family Wednesday, April 15 at 8p and 8:30p. Series originally aired in the UK.

Shailene Woodley (The Divergent Series: Insurgent) will take home the MTV Trailblazer Award during the 2015 MTV Movie Awards Sunday, April 12 at 8p. The week prior, MTV is airing “MTV Movie Awards Takeover Week,” including a sneak peek at Jurassic World.

RETURNING SERIES

More awkward situations await Marc Maron when season three of IFC comedy Maron launches Thursday, May 14 at 10p. Judd Hirsch (Taxi) and Sally Kellerman (M*A*S*H) return as parents of the “equal opportunity offender.”

ID gave the green light for season two of darkly humorous Momsters: When Moms Go Bad, bowing in fall 2015 with Roseanne Barr again onboard. “It is such an honor to be chosen to represent these horrible mothers, I think,” said Barr. “I know I enjoy watching how these complete maniacs fly under the radar until they go off the rails and get caught.” Barr’s far from the only fan of the bad behavior – season one was ID’s best primetime telecast for W18-49 delivery.
