NBC Sports Group inked a deal with European Professional Club Rugby that will feature an exclusive multi-year US media rights agreement for the Champions Cup. The agreement will see NBC Sports carry more than 150 hours of Champions Cup coverage next season across NBC, NBCSN, NBCSports.com and its digital platforms.
“We’re excited to partner with European Professional Club Rugby and the Champions Cup, which represents the best rugby teams in Europe,” said Jon Miller, President, Programming, NBC Sports Group. “The Champions Cup enhances our robust rugby portfolio, which has featured the addition of the Rugby World Cup, Six Nations, and Premiership Rugby in the past two years. NBC Sports is the unquestioned home of rugby in the United States, and we’re committed to super-serving this expanding fanbase.”

Turner Sports and CBS Sports locked in tip times and commentator teams for the Regional Semifinals of the 2018 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship on Thursday and Friday on CBS and TBS. The action begins with Loyola/Nevada on CBS at 7p on Thursday followed by Kansas State/Kentucky (with Brian Anderson/Chris Webber/Lisa Byington on microphone duties). On TBS, the action starts with Texas A&M/Michigan at 7:30p (Kevin Harlan/Reggie Miller/Dan Bonner/Dana Jacobson), followed by Florida State/Gonzaga. Friday then sees CBS open at 7p with Jim Nantz/Grant Hill/Bill Raftery/Tracy Wolfson calling Clemson/Kansas, followed by Syracuse/Duke. TBS offers West Virginia/Villanova at 7:30p followed by Texas Tec/Purdue (Ian Eagle/Jim Spanarkel/Allie LaForce).
NBC Sports reports record viewership for the Arnold Palmer Invitational as Sunday’s final-round coverage on NBC delivered a 3.6 overnight rating, up 136% vs. 2017 number and ranking as the highest-rated final round at this event in six years. Golf Channel’s Sunday final-round lead-in coverage earned a .97 overnight rating, the highest at this event in five years. Meanwhile, Saturday’s third-round coverage earned a 2.29 overnight rating on NBC, up 92% vs. 2017.
FOX Sports laid out plans for the BIG3 2018 Player Draft on April 12 at 8p, following the league’s Player Combine on April 11. The draft will air live on FS1 and the FOX Sports GO and FOX Sports apps, incorporating footage from the previous day’s combine, where nearly 100 players will vie for 19 available roster spots. The BIG3 recently announced the 2018 10-week season schedule, unveiling several new stops including Houston, Oakland, Detroit, Miami, Toronto, Boston, and Atlanta.
Stadium officially unveiled its new studio and expanded office space in the atrium at Chicago’s United Center this week. The set, built by artform*, is customizable and adaptable to accommodate a multiple show formats in addition to news programming.  Stadium plans to create more than 1,000 hours of live, original studio programming from the new space in its first year, in addition to its live and classic games and other programming initiatives.
ESPN Deportes booked a new docu-series, The Last Train to Russia, that will debut on March 22 at 8:30p. The 12-Episode series explores Russia through visits to the 2018 World Cup host cities, told through the eyes of ESPN international soccer reporter Martín Ainstein. The Last Train to Russia is an ESPN International global content initiative produced in English, Spanish, Portuguese and Mandarin for fans across ESPN networks that also include Latin America, Brazil, the Caribbean, Australia and New Zealand, India and China.

DHL locked in a deal to renew its ties with Formula One in addition to becoming the first official partner of F1’s new esports series. “As the first official partner of the F1 eSports Series, we are very pleased to accompany Formula One on its digital journey and to actively contribute to the expansion and emotionalisation of the product range for fans,” said Arjan Sissing, head of corporate brand marketing at Deutsche Post DHL Group.

The West Coast Conference named Gloria Nevarez as the conference’s fourth full-time Commissioner in its 66-year history. She replaces Lynn Holzman, who departed in January to serve as the NCAA Vice President for Women’s Basketball. Nevarez joins the WCC after spending the last eight years with the Pac-12 where she served as the senior associate commissioner and senior woman administrator overseeing all Pac-12 championships with the exception of football.
Major League Baseball promoted Uzma Rawn to Group Director & Vice President of Sponsorship Sales. Rawn will be replacing the position vacated by Jim McCloud last month and will now report directly to Bill Morningstar, MLB Senior Vice President of Sponsorship Sales and will lead the team responsible for securing new sponsorship agreements and renewing Official League Partnerships.
ESPN announced that Chara-Lynn Aguiar has joined the team as Vice President, Strategy. She will oversee ESPN’s integrated strategy efforts working across all business areas. Chara will also serve as a key point of contact with many Corporate Strategy colleagues across The Walt Disney Company.
