TOP NEWS
 

Cord-cutters, your options are growing by the day. The OTT platform PlayStation Vue has launched nationwide, expanding its newly unveiled Slim package to 203 U.S. TV markets. To begin with, the package won’t come equipped with live broadcast local TV channels. Instead, it will provide on-demand next-day content from ABC, NBC, and Fox. The Slim plans, starting at $29.99, are priced at $10 below Vue’s “full” TV service – and that’s important. The biggest impediment to cord-cutting is that consumers may often find that traditional cable packages are actually their least expensive option. It would seem that the Vue is moving in the right direction. You can learn more about the new Slim packages here.
 
 

NEW PROGRAMMING + DEALS
 

Facebook is quickly moving to expand its live video feature to every corner of the web. Next stop: The Daily Beast. The IAC-owned entertainment and news site is using Facebook’s video live tool to launch two original live series on Facebook. One important thing to take note of is that, in the past, The Daily Beast has heavily focused on written editorial content. Facebook, it seems, is beginning to find receptive partners that are willing to expand in scope just to make use of its live video tool. That’s a good sign that Facebook will continue forming new collaborations with unexpected partners. You can learn about the shows here.
 
Bravo Media and Mashable have announced a new development deal. The two brands will co-produce four new short-form originals, rolling them out this year via Bravo Media’s and Mashable’s digital platforms. Each of the four series will be developed collaboratively between Bravo Media and Mashable Studios, the latter of which is still less than a year old. This isn’t the first collaboration between Bravo Media and Mashable Studios: They recently worked on Real Thoughts with Real Housewives, a short-form digital series relating to the Real Housewives franchise. The first of the four new series to emerge from the new partnership will debut this spring.

CONTENT PROGRAMMING
 

Nothing says class like spelling ‘properties’ with a dollar sign. On March 17, NBCU‘s comedic SVOD channel Seeso will debut Bajillion Dollar Propertie$, its newest original series. The show, a reality-TV parody, is EP’d by Tom Lennon, Adam Scott, Ben Garant, David Jargowsky, and creator Kulap Vilaysack. “There are a LOT of comedies dealing with the Human Condition, searching for the cure to American angst, that are funny in an ironic ha way, but not an actual Ha-Ha way,” Evan Shapiro, Executive Vice President of NBCUniversal Digital Enterprises, told Cynopsis Digital. “Real Reality shows themselves are designed to be escapist – a way to leave irony and angst behind. What Scott and Kulap pitched, and what Tom and Ben specialize in, is the comedic equivalent. Their love for the silliness of the actual Realty Reality genre comes through in a heightened silliness that isn’t too ironic to be funny. We thought comedy could use a bit more silliness.”
 
 

PLATFORMS + TECH

 
Before the next Comic-Con rolls around, you can geek out in the privacy of your own home. That’s thanks to Comic-Con HQ, a new SVOD platform soon to be launched by Lionsgate and Comic-Con International. The paid, ad-free service, which was initially announced last year, will be debuting in beta this May, followed by an official premiere in June. The platform will feature movies and series, as well as content captured at Comic-Con events.

Well it was fun while it lasted. A new Netflix beta testing program for Android recently went live on the Google Play store. Apparently, that was a mistake. Netflix removed the program, saying that it didn’t intend to make it available to Google Play users. And the company stressed to TechCrunch that features in the beta app shouldn’t be taken to indicate what will be included in future releases.

Programs that surface on the TVI leaderboards are the most hashtagged on Facebook, Google+, and Tumblr, as well as most searched for on Wikipedia (used as a proxy for organic search volume).

The golden of age of music video never left us – it’s just gone digital. In a study commissioned by Vevo, Nielsen determined that music videos on the Vevo platform can gather audiences that equal or surpass those of network TV shows. Taylor Swift, for example, garnered 18 million U.S. viewers over the course of seven days when the video for Bad Blood was released. That’s a bigger audience than all but one network TV show during the same week.

Video ad marketplace Tremor Video announced that Andy Morley will serve as the company’s new Managing Director in the UK. In the new role, Morley will develop existing agency relationships, as well as new partnerships, to grow adoption of Tremor Video’s buyer and seller platforms in both the UK and EMEA. Previously, he served as Commercial Director of the ad tech company Grapeshot.
