Andy Samberg has been tapped to host the 67th Annual Emmys, airing Sunday, September 20 on Fox. It’s the first major TV hosting gig for the Brooklyn Nine-Nine star. “Buckle your seat belts, Emmy viewers!” said Samberg. “Like, in general you should buckle your seat belt in your car. In fact, even if you’re not an Emmy viewer, you should buckle your seat belt…. Also if you’re not an Emmy viewer, you should strongly consider becoming one this year, because I’m hosting, and it’s gonna be a wild ride.”

IN THE NEWS

CBS renewed Mom, Mike & Molly and 2 Broke Girls for 2015-2016. Mom, moved from Monday to Thursday, is up 42 percent in viewers (11.89 million) and 16 percent in A18-49 (2.9/9) in its sophomore year; Mike & Molly ranks number one in its time period among viewers (10.35 million) and A25-54 (3.7/9) during season five, and 2 Broke Girls, now in season four, is averaging 9.58 million viewers, up 3 percent versus last year.

Also in renewal mode is truTV, announcing Hack My Life and How to Be a Grown Up will be back for second seasons, and Top Funniest for a third. Barmageddon got an order for more eps, while Six Degrees of Everything grabbed a green light. “TruTV is taking fun, distinctive programming to a whole new level for our target audience of young, connected viewers,” said Chris Linn, head of programming.

Kerry Washington (Scandal) will play Anita Hill and exec produce HBO TV movie Confirmation, about the Clarence Thomas Supreme Court nomination hearings, Hollywood Reporter was first to report. Susannah Grant (Erin Brockovich) will write and exec produce.

Empire exec producer Danny Strong admitted during a conference call he has “no clue” what’s in store for season two of the freshman Fox hit. Snoop Dogg and Patti LaBelle are among the stars lighting up the season one finale, but Strong said before the show aired, “we were getting passed on all over the place” for guest star roles. Now, “It turned into not only lots of ‘yes’es, but incoming calls of people who wanted to be on the show.” As for those ratings, up in viewers (to 14.7 million) nine weeks in a row since launch? “I thought we would grow in White households,” said Strong. “What I didn’t realize is that we would grow in White households but double in African-American households.”

Former U.S. Navy SEAL Rob O’Neill, subject of last year’s Fox News special The Man Who Killed Osama Bin Laden, has been hired as a contributor at the news net. “It’s incredibly rare to have someone in a television contributor role with his leadership experience and expertise at the fighting unit level,” said chairman and CEO Roger Ailes. “His military insight will be a major asset to the network and we are honored to have him.”

SNL alum Norm Macdonald joins season nine of NBC’s Last Comic Standing as judge, joining returning judges Roseanne Barr and Keenan Ivory Wayans. Anthony Jeselnik (Comedy Central Roasts) replaces J.B. Smoove as host of the reality show, premiering this summer.

The FCC posted a 313-page (!) net neutrality order on Thursday, establishing its authority to make the Internet equally available to all content generators. The rules, called “a shining example of American democracy at work” by FCC chairman Tom Wheeler, become law 60 days after they appear in the Federal Register. A court challenge is expected.
