AMC gave a two-season order for a companion series to monster hit The Walking Dead. First season of the as-yet-untitled drama, set in LA, will include six one-hour eps premiering in late summer; sophomore run is set for 2016. Dead’s Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, Greg Nicotero and David Alpert are exec producers for the new series, which, like the original, is being produced by AMC Studios. “From the beginning … we’ve been asked questions about what was going on in other parts of the zombie apocalypse, and what it looked like as the world really did ‘turn,’” said AMC president Charlie Collier. “Through this new series, we’re going to find out.”
Kevin Spacey (House of Cards) will exec produce and narrate six-part CNN documentary Race for the White House, delving into some of the country’s most famous Presidential campaigns. “When we created the CNN Original Series brand, this is exactly the type of programming we had in mind,” said Jeff Zucker, president of CNN Worldwide. “Race for the White House will be the perfect complement to our coverage of the 2016 campaigns and election.”
Brian Williams, serving a six-month suspension for exaggerated reporting, should be allowed to return as NBC News anchor, according to 42 percent of voters in a new Quinnipiac University national poll. Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly, also under fire for embellishing his experiences on the job, had 23 percent of respondents calling for his exit (although 51 percent of voters said they didn’t have enough information about O’Reilly’s situation to form an opinion). In our own Cynopsis poll, 40 percent of voters didn’t think Williams should have been suspended, while 25 percent of respondents said the accusations against O’Reilly were unfair. Head to head: which newsman do you trust more? Vote here.

A new study from Nielsen indicates Twitter activity around TV shows is strongly correlated with neurological engagement (emotion, memory and attention). What’s the takeaway? “This is the first research that has shown that Twitter activity around the live airings of TV programs is indicative of general audiences’ engagement with those programs,” Deirdre Thomas, SVP, client solutions, tells Cynopsis. “This is particularly important foragencies and advertisers during the media planning and buying process, as well as network ad sales teams, who can use Twitter TV activity to identify programs – and moments within programs – where the general viewing audience is highly engaged.”
Simulmedia is putting money where its measurement is, with a new program that guarantees its audience-targeted TV ads will produce better business outcomes than traditional buys. Here’s how it works: For $1 million placed on its Audience Network for one month, Simulmedia will guarantee a higher Return on Ad Spend against any advertiser’s designated target business outcome as compared to their concurrent TV advertising base campaign. If they fall short on ROAS, the company will make good on the percent of the benchmark they miss in the form of future media credits. The reaction so far has been “really positive,” CEO Dave Morgan tells Cynopsis. “It looks like we’re going to have at least ten brands take us up on this right away. Putting your money where your mouth is when it comes to delivery effective TV advertising seems to make a big difference.”
Toyota is the inaugural advertiser funding projects for CBS’s “Viewers to Volunteers” initiative, launched Monday.
