03/19/21: The NFL announced new long-term deals with Amazon, CBS, FOX, ESPN and NBC

The NFL cemented its broadcast plans, finally unveiling long-term agreements with media partners Amazon, CBS, ESPN/ABC, FOX, and NBC for the distribution of NFL games with the new agreements set to begin with the 2023 season and run through the 2033 season. Collectively, the new deals are reportedly worth a total of $110 billion for the 11-year span, according to the NYT.

“These new media deals will provide our fans even greater access to the games they love. We’re proud to grow our partnerships with the most innovative media companies in the market,” said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. “Along with our recently completed labor agreement with the NFLPA, these distribution agreements bring an unprecedented era of stability to the League and will permit us to continue to grow and improve our game.”

Partnership details include:
AMAZON: In the NFL’s first ever all-digital package, Amazon Prime Video has acquired the rights to be the exclusive home of Thursday Night Football across hundreds of compatible digital devices.
CBS: CBS retains the rights for the American Football Conference package of Sunday afternoon games. All games will be broadcast on the CBS Television Network and streamed live on Paramount+, ViacomCBS’ flagship streaming service.
ESPN: ESPN will continue to be the NFL’s television partner for Monday Night Football. Additionally, ABC has acquired the rights to televise two Super Bowls along with exclusive regular season games. ESPN+ subscribers can stream one International Series game on an exclusive national basis every season and the new agreement allows ESPN the opportunity to simulcast all ABC and ESPN games on ESPN+. The new agreement for ESPN covers 11 years, including a 10-year deal beginning in 2023 and a bridge year deal in 2022.
FOX: FOX renewed its agreement to produce the National Football Conference package of Sunday afternoon games that it acquired in 1994. FOX expanded its digital rights, including for its AVOD streaming platform Tubi to deliver NFL programming on digital platforms.
NBC: Sunday Night Football will continue to be produced by NBC Sports. In addition to simulcasting all Sunday Night Football games, Peacock, NBCUniversal’s streaming service, will deliver an exclusive feed of a select number of NFL games over the course of the agreement. Telemundo Deportes will present all NBC NFL games on television in Spanish beginning in 2023.
NFL NETWORK, the television home of the NFL, will continue to televise a select schedule of exclusive NFL games on a yearly basis.


Meanwhile, FOX Sports steps up to the plate for its 26th season of Major League Baseball coverage, revealing its lineup of games and culminating this fall with the 117th World Series. FS1 begins play on April 3 with a doubleheader featuring the Braves/Phillies at 4p followed by the Rockies/Dodgers at 8p. FOX Deportes presents its most comprehensive schedule ever with more than 40 live games. Beginning with the opening doubleheader on April 3, the network’s 2021 schedule features six appearances from the Dodgers. As for FOX, starting May 22, the broadcast channel will feature regionalized action on nine Saturdays in prime time. The network’s signature Baseball Night in America leads off with a slate including the Dodgers/Giants, Cubs/Cardinals and Red Sox/Phillies at 7p. The 2021 MLB All-Star Game takes place on July 13 at 8p.

For the first time, Tennis Channel will be the exclusive home of the Miami Open, taking viewers from first ball March 23 to championship point April 4. Live, daylong match blocks and all-night encores will essentially create a round-the-clock Miami Open channel for fans to stay tuned into during the entire event, enhanced by live and on-demand competition on streaming service Tennis Channel Plus. Tennis Channel is also partnering with parent company Sinclair Broadcast Group’s regional sports networks to offer daily, exclusive matches that will not be seen on Tennis Channel, putting more live Miami Open play on television than ever before, offering 125 hours of live coverage with an additional 170 hours of encore replays. The 2021 Miami Open begins March 23, at 11a.

ESPN re-signed award-winning reporter John Barr to a multiyear contract extension that will include expanded reporting duties across ESPN platforms. Barr will continue as part of ESPN’s Enterprise Unit, covering breaking news, investigative and human interest stories for ESPN.com, Outside the Lines and E60. In addition, as part of his expanded duties, Barr will work with ESPN’s bureau group on stories for SportsCenter and other ESPN platforms.

YES is reporting an average of 126,000 Total Viewers for its Yankees Spring Training games so far this spring, putting the network on pace to have its best Spring Training since 2009. YES’ 126,000 Average Total Viewers for its first six Spring Training telecasts this season is 26% greater than YES’ seven Spring Training telecasts last year.

The Right Time with Bomani Jones podcast expanded from two shows per week to three, publishing on a Monday-Wednesday-Friday basis. The new Friday addition will feature weekly conversations with The Undefeated’s Domonique Foxworth. “The last year has been great for The Right Time, so I’m glad we can give more to our listeners,” said Jones. “I also can’t wait to follow through on something those listeners have long wanted, a weekly spot with Domonique, one of the most intelligent and entertaining talents at this company.”

The Professional Fighters League will see “PFL Vault” now stream on Friday nights at 9p across fubo Sports Network. The hour-long program features archival footage specially curated from PFL Studios. fubo Sports Network moved “PFL Vault” to its primetime schedule on Friday nights given its strong performance across the platform on Wednesdays as the staple within fubo’s combat sports weekly programming.

ClashTV, an interactive streaming app, signed deals with Sling and Pluto to simulcast ClashTV’s MMA feed, featuring M-1 Global MMA Series fights from Eastern Europe and scripted MMA programs. The feed will begin on Pluto this week, with Sling shortly after. The app is currently live with fubo and have broadcast 27 live tournaments over the last 12 months.

A new distribution agreement between OneFootball and the Scottish Professional Football League will see Scottish football streamed live in selected international markets, starting with this weekend’s Old Firm derby between Celtic and Rangers. The new partnership as facilitated by Infront and now extends the reach to over 160 territories.

PepsiCo confirmed that LeBron James is defecting from his 18-year relationship with Coca-Cola and signed on for a multi-year endorsement deal to become the spokeperson for the Mtn Dew Rise Energy drink. PepsiCo said its partnership with James will be activated across its portfolio ‘in unique and unexpected ways’, including in the snack category.

Love Hemp Group PLC, a CBD and Hemp product supplier, and UFC revealed a five-year agreement that names Love Hemp the Official Global CBD Partner of UFC. The deal will see Love Hemp feature numerous branded integrations within UFC content on digital platforms, including social media assets and programming on UFC FIGHT PASS.

HEARTLENT Group is partnering with Opendorse to provide digital and social strategy as well as creative production and content as part of the Opendorse Ready Program. Opendorse partners will gain access to HEARTLENT Group for more personalized digital and social strategy including social-first creative content, illustrations, animations, video production and editing, audio production and more.

Mechanix Wear is teaming with PBR via a multi-year agreement that makes Mechanix Wear the Official Work Glove of the PBR. The brand also becomes an Official Partner of the PBR and PBR Unleash The Beast, the organization’s premier series. Through the multi-year partnership, Mechanix Wear will equip those inside the arena, including the bull fighters protecting the riders, the gateman, latchman, and other members of the PBR arena operations and production crews, with gloves from its Durahide line.

Austin FC entered into a multi-year sponsorship agreement with Diageo North America that establishes Captain Morgan as an Official Partner of Austin FC and grants Captain Morgan entitlement rights to the Q2 Stadium East Club hospitality area, which now becomes the Captain Morgan Club. “We know that Austinites have a fondness for indoor-outdoor gathering spaces, and we are proud to introduce the Captain Morgan Club as the official name for the East Club hospitality area at the stadium, which will offer an indoor-outdoor gathering space that is unique to MLS stadiums for members and non-members alike,” said Andy Loughnane, President of Austin FC.

The Professional Fighters League appointed The Sasha Group, a full-service agency within the VaynerX family of companies, as its digital marketing agency of record. They will be charged with creative and media services to drive PFL brand awareness and engage with new audiences, including the utilization of TikTok, Facebook, YouTube and Snapchat for unique activations. Additionally, the agency will leverage digital and social channels to create fan experiences and customized content.


Bally’s Corp. signed on to become the authorized gaming partner of Major League Baseball. The gaming company gains access to official MLB league and team marks, logos and data, which it will use across its portfolio of sports wagering products.

MSG Networks announced that MSG Networks Pick ‘Em is now available to download on iOS and Android and its first pick ‘em contest will be offered tomorrow night for the Knicks/Magic game. The contestants that correctly answer all questions in the Knicks contest will win or split the grand prize of $10,000. The NHL contests, which will begin in April, will each have a $1,000 progressive jackpot.


Massive news for esports heavyweight EVO, which announced that Sony Interactive Entertainment LLC and RTS, a new venture born out of Endeavor’s esports business, acquired the assets and properties of the Evolution Championship Series, the world’s largest fighting game event. Through this new partnership, Evo is returning this year as Evo Online, a fully online competition running August 6-8 and 13 -15. Entry will be free, and players in North America, Europe, Asia and Latin America will be able to compete in BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment’s Tekken 7, Capcom’s Street Fighter V: Champion Edition, Warner Bros. Games’ Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate, and Arc System Works’ Guilty Gear -Strive- in an open format. As a result of the acquisition, Evo will be operated by the recently formed joint venture between SIE and RTS.

CLG and Bud Light are launching a marketing partnership that names Bud Light an Official Partner of CLG. The partnership includes the new “Bud Light Streaming Studio” at the CLG Performance Center in Los Angeles. This permanent installation will serve as the backdrop for livestream content from members of CLG and other influencers. Bud Light will become the presenting partner for all CLG League of Legends LCS virtual viewing parties within the CLG dedicated fan Discord, where fans banter and discuss the day’s matches. Along with brand integration across all marketing assets, Bud Light will have the opportunity to promote their ecommerce and at-home delivery service.

Meanwhile, Verizon is partnering with Twitch to serve as the founding sponsor for the HBCU Esports League. The HBCU Esports League was founded by Cxmmunity Gaming Co., an Atlanta-based nonprofit organization committed to increasing participation in minority esports and gaming and advocating for HBCU students in STEM careers. The partnership with Verizon aims to promote STEM careers for HBCU students and highlight future leaders in the HBCU community.

Ferrari announced that the 2021 Ferrari Esports Series will launch in April. The 2021 tournament will use Kunos Simulazioni’s Assetto Corsa nd will feature four of Ferrari’s real-world vehicles. The Grand Finals winner gets the opportunity to become an official esport racing driver and join the Ferrari Driver Academy Esports Team at Ferrari HQ in Maranello.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. will be among the drivers competing in the eNASCAR iRacing Pro Invitational Series opener at the virtual Bristol Motor Speedway dirt track on March 24 at 8p on FS1. The Bristol race marks the first of 10 Pro Invitational Series races in 2021. The first five — Bristol Motor Speedway on dirt, Talladega Superspeedway, Darlington Raceway, Circuit of the Americas and a track to be determined — will be televised on FS1. The second five will be broadcast by NBC Sports.


World Rugby named Alan Gilpin as the international federation’s new Chief Executive Officer. Gilpin has performed the role of Interim Chief Executive following Brett Gosper’s departure in January. Commenting on the appointment, World Rugby Chairman Sir Bill Beaumont said: “Alan is well known and very well respected by the rugby family through his roles as Managing Director of Rugby World Cup and Chief Operating Officer of World Rugby, and I have long admired his passion, energy, innovation and leadership skills.

IMG signed a four-year partnership with Lega Pallavolo Serie A to market all media rights for the Italian Men’s Volleyball around the globe. The deal also includes the rights for Fastpath data and live streaming for the sports betting industry via IMG ARENA.

GameCo LLC announced the appointment of Adam Rosenberg as its Chief Executive Officer. Rosenberg is a seasoned industry veteran with over 23 years of experience advising, financing, and investing in Gaming and Leisure companies.
