Drew Barrymore has been tapped to host the 2023 MTV Movie & TV Awards. The event will air live from the Barker Hangar in Los Angeles on Sunday, May 6 at 8p on MTV. It will also air on MTV internationally in more than 150 countries.
Disney+ has nixed a second season of “Willow,” the live-action original series based on the 1988 fantasy film, according to Deadline. The news comes two months after it ended its debut run on the streamer.
Peacock renewed “Days of our Lives” for two additional seasons. The move takes the long-running soap opera through its 60th season. The show has consistently been a top 10 title on Peacock since its move from NBC last year.
Great American Family’s Christmas movie slate is expanding with 21 new original titles, up from 18 in 2022. “Great American Christmas” will kick off in October. Actors slated to appear this year are Trevor Donovan and Merrit Patterson, who will reunite in the new “Christmas By Chance.”
Hallmark Media is returning to the Upfronts. Beginning March 21 through mid-April, the company will host a variety of branded engagements and curated experiences for advertisers. “We look forward to celebrating Hallmark Media’s distinct value proposition in the marketplace by reconnecting with our partners, while taking the time to meet, listen and learn more about their needs,” said Ed Georger, Executive Vice President, Ad Sales & Digital Media. “Our longstanding investment in the development of original content that brings both comfort to our viewers and trust among our advertisers allows us to continue to deliver and experience that is renowned by fans and uniquely Hallmark.”
Tubi will host its first-ever conference for advertisers, Tubi Connect on Thursday, March 23 at Spring Studios in Manhattan. It will consist of a half-day of programming that will dive into how ad-supported video-on-demand service is connecting diverse stories, brands and data with the right audiences and delivering brand impact at scale.
Charity Lawson was named the lead in the upcoming 20th season of “The Bachelorette.” Sent home by Zach Shallcross following her hometown date on the current season of “The Bachelor,” the 27-year-old will begin handing out roses when the series returns this summer on ABC.

Peacock has issued a premiere date for “Bupkis,” the comedy series inspired by Pete Davidson’s life. All eight episodes will drop on Thursday, May 4. The “Saturday Night Live” alum co-wrote, executive produced and stars in the project along with Edie Falco and Joe Pesci.
Netflix has ordered three-part series “American Manhunt: The Boston Marathon Bombing,” as per Deadline. It delves into the tragedy which saw terrorists bomb the race’s finish line. It’s set to bow on April 12, nearly 10 years to the day of the attack.
Two-time NBA champion J.R. Smith has a new focus in the upcoming four-part docuseries for Amazon. “Redefined: J.R. Smith” follows the retired basketball star as he pursues a college education and new athletic passion – golf – at North Carolina A&T. The series will launch on April 4.
Drake Doremus (“Like Crazy”) is making the move into television with “One Day in December.” The series, based on the Josie Silver novel of the same name, is being developed at Netflix. Lucy Boynton (“Bohemian Rhapsody”) is attached as executive producer and star.
NEW & RETURNING SERIES
Bravo makes a splash with the Season 4 premiere of “Below Deck Sailing Yacht” on Monday, April 10 at 8p. Returning this season are Capt. Glenn Shephard and veteran department heads Daisy Kelliher, Gary King and Colin MacRae.
“Home in a Heartbeat with Galey Alix” premieres Wednesday, April 19 at 9p on HGTV and will be available to stream the same day on discovery+. The series follows the Wall Street executive and social media personality as she uses her do-it-yourself skills to provide renovations for homeowners.
Award-winning talent competition series “Tengo Talento, Much Talento” returns to Estrella TV on Monday, April 17 at 9p. A record number of contestants auditioned to be part of Season 27, with more than 20 cities hosting in-person auditions.
Timed to Earth Day, “Chasing the Rains” premieres Saturday, April 22 at 8p on BBC America and via AMC+. Viewers will get to follow three animal matriarchs as they protect their families in the wilds of Kenya while surviving the trials of one of the worst droughts in 20 years.
FX’s “Class of ‘09” debuts on Hulu on Wednesday, May 10. Starring Brian Tyree and Kate Mara, the limited series thriller follows a class of FBI agents set in three distinct points in time, grappling with changes in the U.S. criminal justice system altered by artificial intelligence.
COMING UP
UPtv is celebrating Easter season with “Bring the Spring.” The offering contains more than 80 hours of programming, including contemporary premiere movies, fan-favorite series, classic Bible films and more. “God Bless the Broken Road” bows Sunday, March 19 at 7p and tells the story of a young mother who loses her husband in Afghanistan and struggles to raise their young daughter. Documentary “I Go to the Rock: The Gospel Music of Whitney Houston,” premiering Friday, March 24 at 8p, explores the late singer’s faith and love of gospel music.
TMZ Investigates: 9/11: The Fifth Plane premieres Monday, March 20 at 9p on FOX. The special explores what could have been an additional plane targeted by hijackers on 9/11. It features interviews with the flight attendants, the pilot and others who believe their aircraft might have become a weapon of mass destruction.
“Operation Appreciation: Bowling Green” airs Saturday, March 18 at 8:30p on Circle Network. Hosted by country music star Lauren Alaina, the benefit concert will honor the Kentucky community, which was struck by devastating tornadoes in December 2021.
Hulu bows “The Pope: Answers” on April 5. The original Spanish special, featuring Pope Francis and directed by Jordi Evole and Marius Sanchez, was shot in Rome and focuses on the meeting between the head of the Catholic church and ten young adults.
“John Mulaney: Baby J” bows globally on Netflix on April 25. The standup special is Mulaney’s third on the streamer, following “The Comeback Kid” and “Kid Gorgeous.”

After more than a decade, the Standard Terms & Conditions for internet advertising, last updated in 2018, will be significantly overhauled. Launching in April 2023, the 4As, the ANA, and the IAB will create a joint task force that includes advertising agencies, marketers, publishers and ad tech companies. The goal is to reduce friction, increase buying efficiency, and acknowledge the many changes in the digital ad marketplace.
Allen Media Group’s free streaming platforms have added Speedvision FAST Channel, expanding its motorsports and automotive entertainment content library. On Local Now, Sports.TV and theGrio, the channel features car build shows, garage content, automotive history, and auction programming.
CordCutting.com’s annual State of Streaming report finds that 93% of American adults access streaming video platforms, while only 40% have cable or satellite service. The average streamer spends $50 monthly on streaming services across four different platforms, with Netflix being the most popular. One battle still impacting the industry is password sharing, which costs the industry approximately $2.4 billion a year. Twenty-one percent of streamers “mooch” passwords, with Netflix the most affected.

Abacus Media Rights acquired global sales rights, excluding the UK, to new arts documentary “Decoding Turner.” The film, scheduled to air in June, reveals what may be hidden codes within many of JMW Turner’s works.
S4C and BBC Cymru Wales commissioned “Pren ar y Bryn/Tree on a Hill.” The dark comedy tells the story of Margaret and Clive Lewis, whose quiet lives change in an instant when they find themselves on the wrong side of the law.
The Story Collective has made its first investment in scripted production companies with the Steven Knight 12-part series, “A Thousand Blows” (wt). The project stars and is being executive produced by Stephen Graham for Disney+.
