Julia Roberts is in talks to star in and exec produce Charlotte Walsh Likes to Win, an Amazon limited series based on the novel by Jo Piazza. From wiip, Roberts Red Om Films production shingle and Amazon Studios, series is being adapted by Jon Robin Baitz, who created the ABC series Brothers & Sisters and the NBC miniseries The Slap.

Netflix and Sugar23 scored feature rights to Erica Katz‘s upcoming book The Boys’ Club and will develop a film based on the tome, to be published by Harper in summer 2020. YouTube is disabling the ability for viewers to leave comments on most videos featuring minors, the platform said in a blog post yesterday. The move comes as YT faces growing backlash over its lack of policing child predators leaving coded sexual comments on the site. The post said the company had already disabled comments from “tens of millions of videos” and it now will suspend comments on virtually all videos featuring young minors, as well as videos featuring older kids that “could be at risk of attracting predatory behavior.” Additionally, the service said it will develop “an even more effective classifier” so it can better identify and remove predatory comments.
Amazon advertising is less trusted than ads on Google and Facebook, according to a Singular survey of 1,500 marketers running active ad campaigns. Nevertheless, 62.8 percent of those surveyed say they plan to increase spending on the platform.
China’s video-sharing app TikTok agreed to pay a $5.7 million US Federal Trade Commission fine to settle allegations it illegally collected personal information including names, email addresses and their location from minors under the age of 13. The FTC said the fine for TikTok, which is owned by $75 billion startup ByteDance, is a record for a child privacy case. Speficially, the fine relates to Musical.ly, the video-sharing app Bytedance bought in 2017 and merged with TikTok last August.
Facebook is launching its “clear history” tool, a GDPR-style privacy feature aimed at inhibiting the social network’s ability to help advertisers target as accurately as they can today. The feature enables users to wipe information Facebook has collected on them via third-party apps and websites.
Less than a month after Spotify paid almost $340 million to acquire producer Gimlet Media and services platform Anchor, the company tapped TV veteran Liz Gateley as head of creative development, focused on original podcast content. YouTube revealed the full voice cast for Sherwood, its animated series set in the dystopian future of 2270 and based on the mythology of Robin Hood that bows on YouTube Premium on March 6. Anya Chalotra (The Witcher), Tyler Posey (Teen Wolf), Aneurin Barnard (The Goldfinch), Jamie Chung (The Gifted), Neneh Conteh, Rachel House (Whalerider), Ade M’Cormack (Lost) and Darrill Rosen (The Misogynists) round out the cast, with guest Joseph Fiennes (The Handmaid’s Tale).
Dish Media announced Sling TV’s dynamic ad insertion into live streaming TV fueled the tripling of its advertising revenue in 2018, adding a multiplier on top of tenfold growth reported for 2017. Sling saw significant growth in key focus areas enabled by DAI including targeted addressable advertising, particularly in cross-platform campaigns that are delivered to both Sling TV and Dish TV audiences with a single buy.

The gap between online and offline advertising ROI has closed by roughly 30 percent since 2016, according to a new report from Analytic Partners. The ROIs of offline and online steadily have been converging over the last decade, as online ad costs increase and issues around transparency and accuracy of reporting grow, according to the report. Despite these issues, Analytic Partners saw 62 percent of brands analyzed increasing online marketing spending, which lead to a 1.5-times increase in business impact.
