On the heels of TBS’s pickup of his untitled comedy with wife Samantha Bee, The Daily Show’s Jason Jones announced via Twitter that after 9½ years at “one of the greatest TV shows of all time…It is time for me to go.” Bee will remain with the late nighter, said Comedy Central. The couple’s comedy about a family road trip to Florida, starring Jones, is slated for a 4Q15 launch.
ESPN 2 anchor Keith Olbermann earned a suspension for a Twitter feud with Penn State fans during which he called the school’s students “pitiful.” Said the network on Tuesday, “We are aware of the exchange Keith Olbermann had on Twitter last night regarding Penn State. It was completely inappropriate and does not reflect the views of ESPN. We have discussed it with Keith, who recognizes he was wrong. ESPN and Keith have agreed that he will not host his show for the remainder of this week.” Olbermann, suspended from MSNBC in 2010 for donations to political candidates, will return Monday.
The abundance of new shows coupled with time shifting is a challenge for cable nets, acknowledged NBCUniversal’s Steve Burke on Tuesday. “It’s going to be a tougher business to grow,” said the CEO in an analysts’ call. “It was a double digit growth business,. It’s probably a single digit growth business in the future.”
Among the celebs aboard season 20 of ABC’s Dancing With the Stars: Three’s Company’s Suzanne Somers, singer Patti LaBelle, football star Michael Sam, Olympic gymnast Nastia Liukin, daughter-of-Bruce Rumer Willis and Carl’s Jr. ad model Charlotte McKinney. Dance pro Derek Hough, who had announced he would not be part of the season, will be back after all, partnered wtih Liuken. Competition starts Monday, March 16.
ITV renewed Broadchurch for a third season. The drama’s sophomore run ended Monday night, delivering a season high 7.85 million viewers.
Beta Research released a survey indicating that the highest-ranked nets in perceived value to cable operators were ESPN, ESPN2, Disney, Fox News and NFL Network. “Results have been very consistent,” Andrew Klein, president, cable division tells Cynopsis. “ESPN has ranked first for 15 years in a row. Most of the top ranked networks have clear brands andprogramming identities. Networks with a clear brand/programming identity tend to rank high not only in this cable operator study, but also in our consumer studies.”
REVOLTis collaborating with JauntVR to film the first in a series of virtual reality concerts. An hour-long set from Big Sean will be taped at the net’s studio at Hollywood & Highland today; songs from thevirtual reality performance will be released for first-view at the Revolt House at SXSW and later online for download at http://www.revolt.tv and www.jauntvr.com for viewing on Google Cardboard. Mike Roche, SVP of sales and partnerships, promises “an exciting and immersive performance series.”

Nickelodeon, Nicktoons, TeenNick and Nick Jr. combine to reach 26 million kids.
NBC’s The Voice returned Monday with a premiere low 4.1/12 among A18-49, but that was enough to handily win the night in the demo. The season two premiere of the net’s Night Shift earned 1.5/4, up 36 percent from its summer finale.
ABC Nightly News won the news demo for the second week of NBC News anchor Brian Williams’ six-month suspension for reporting embellishments, but NBC remained first in total viewers, increasing its lead from 398,000 to 416,000 with Lester Holt in the anchor seat.
Discovery’s Street Outlaws delivered a record 3 million viewers on Monday, February 16 in Live+3, and was the top non-sports cable program for Persons and Men delivery in the time slot, earning 2.66 among M25-54, 2.28 among M18-49 and 1.83 among M18-34.
TBS‘s King of the Nerds drew a combined audience of 1.9 million viewers in Live+7 for its February 6 premiere and 2 encore telecasts, including 524,000 A18-34 and 1.1 million A18-49.Across all TBS platforms, the series is averaging a reach of 2.7 million viewers per episode.
The season two finale of TNT’s Transporter The Series drew over 1.6 million viewers in Live+7 delivery. With DVR, replays and multiplatform viewing included, the season reached 3.1 million viewers per episode.
19 Kids & Counting returned to TLC for season nine Tuesday with a premiere high 4.0 million P2+ viewers, and a 3.4 rating among W25-54. New series Our Little Family averaged 2.1 million P2+ viewers and a 1.5 W25-54 rating, helping make TLC the number one cable network on Tuesday night with W25-54/18-49.
The season three premiere of History’s Vikings drew 4.6 million total viewers, 2.4 million A25-54 and 2.3 million A18-49 in Live+3, ranking it as the number one show on cable in Live+3 in all key demos and total viewers on Thursday, February 19.
