Whalerock Industries and MGM are extending their television and film agreement into 2017. MGM is distributing internationally Whalerock’s new series Battlebots, to air this summer on ABC. Other MGM/Whalerock projects include the film I Am Pilgrim, based on the Terry Hayes novel, and series development across multiple television outlets. GF Capital acquired a minority stake in the Company to provide capital to support these and future initiatives.
National Geographic Channel picked Palm Sunday, March 29, at 8p to debut its three-hour special Killing Jesus, based on Bill O’Reilly and Martin Dugard’s best-seller. Produced by Scott Freeman Productions, the special stars Kelsey Grammer as King Herod the Great and Stephen Moyer as Pontius Pilate.
Fans who missed seeing Kobe Bryant during last weekend’s NBA All-Star game are directed to Showtime documentary Kobe Bryant’s Muse, premiering Saturday, Feb. 28 at 9p. The feature-length documentary looks at the aftermath of the shoulder injury that ended Bryant’s 2014-15 season with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Lifetime welcomes spring with two new series next month. Born In The Wild, an unscripted look at couples’ personal decisions to give birth in nature, premieres March 3 at 10p. Wuthering High School, premiering March 14 at 8p and starring James Caan, is a modern retelling of the Emily Bronte classic novel set in Malibu.
Hallmark Movies & Mysteries is bringing select Aurora Teagarden Mysteries books to television beginning with A Bone to Pick: An Aurora Teagarden Mystery. The network original movie stars Full House alum Candace Cameron Bure in the title role of a small-town librarian with a sharp mind for murder, and Marilu Henner. It premieres Sunday, April 19, at 9p.
Robin Givens, Columbus Short and Lynn Whitfield will return to headline the next installment of TV One’s horror anthology Fear Files (formerly Fright Night Files), with the first of three new tales of love gone wrong set to debut Friday, March 13, at 8p.
MTV’s college-culture net mtvU is singing a new tune for this year’s incarnation of its annual Woodie Awards. For the first time nominees will compete live on MTV in an hourlong special Friday, March 20, at 9p, filmed at the SXSW Music Festival in Austin, Texas.
“Lion whisperer” Kevin Richardson pits natures archrivals in a battle of the wits in Smithsonian Channel’s new two-part series Killer IQ: Lion Vs. Hyena, airing March 4 and 11 at 8p, the show pits the two species against each other in a war of wits.
To Not Fade Away, a documentary that explores early onset Alzheimer’s, debuts at 9p today on RLTV with subsequent telecasts during the next 10 days. The series is exec-produced by David Wasser and Chief Content Officer Elliot Jacobson and includes appearances by Maria Shriver, Glen Campbell, Pat Summitt and Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D-W.Va).

A+E Networks becomes the first network to use the Rovi Ad Optimizer data-driven platform to help advertisers connect with targeted audiences across all its networks and inventory. Horizon Media has committed to purchasing data-driven media from A+E.

Electus International is the new global distribution partner for WGN’s docu-series Outlaw Country, which premieres Tuesday, Feb. 24 at 10p. Series features seven hourlong episodes that chronicle two rival sets of brothers–one from law enforcement and the other from the streets.

Live from New York was the place to be as NBC’s SNL 40 tribute stole the show not only on Sunday night but also for the whole week, with a 7.8/21 average. FOX’s Empire had a strong showing, with 4.8/15, and ABC’s Modern Family held its own with 3.3/10. ABC’s The Bachelor maintained its season high rating among A18-49 on Monday, at 2.7/8.
Despite, or perhaps because of the Brian Williams scandal, NBC: Nightly News won the week with 9.43 million total viewers, followed by ABC: World NewsTonigh twith 9.03 million.
Hallmark Channel had a sweet Valentine’s Day. The net’s Countdown to Valentine’s Day–the latest in its Countdown event programming–reached more than 30 million unduplicated viewers and 6.7 million W25-54 during its two-week run.
Syndicated entertainment mags saw ratings boosts the week ending February 8, as the Brian Williams scandal widened. Entertainment Tonight had a 9 percent lift, to 3.8 versus the week prior, and TMZ drew a season high 2.3, up 10 percent. Access Hollywood had an 11 percent increase, matching its 2.0 season high, while Extra surged 20 percent, for a season high 1.8.
Dr. Phil was the top daytime talk show for the fourth consecutive week, increasing 3 percent to 3.7, followed by Live With Kelly & Michael, up 6 percent to 3.3. Ellen DeGeneres took a 3 percent dip, to 2.9.

Monday A18-49 Analysis: ABC again won the most A18-49 viewers Monday with 2.2/6 , according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen. As The Bachelor sashays closer to its season finale, the net grabbed the top spot at 8p with2.5/7, followed by CBS’s 2 Broke Girls with 2.2/6. The Bachelor stayed on top at 9p with 2.7/7,versus 1.6/4 for NBC’s The Apprentice. At 10p Castle reigned with 1.6/5; CBS’s Stevie Wonder Grammy Salute was next with 1.5/3.

Sunday A18-49 Analysis: NBC tickled many a funny bone as its irreverently nostalgic look back over four decades of Saturday Night Live won the most A18-49 viewers Sunday with 11.1/18, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen. The SNL salute pre-show scored 3.0/10 at 7p, besting 1.4/5 for ABC’s America’s Funniest Home Videos. NBC’s SLN anniversary averaged 8.4/24 to dominate 8p, versus 1.5/4 for ABC’s Bachelor Tells All special. At 9p SNL stars drew 8.4/22 for NBC, with ABC’s The Bachelor settling for second with 1.6/4. SNL’s celebration finished the night with 7.0/19, opposite 1.6/4 for ABC’s single (for now) guy.
