Rosie Perez is back in her co-host seat, but co-exec producer Brian Balthazar is putting The View behind him just six months into the job. One day after Perez, rumored to be out at the ABC morning talker, returned from a pre-planned hiatus, came word that Balthazar had decided to return to HGTV. The former exec producer for shows including House Hunters will serve as VP, programming and development. “The opportunity to develop long form lifestyle programming is something I have always had a passion for,” said the exec. “While my time at The View was brief, I will continue to be a big fan of the show…don’t be surprised to find me cheering the ladies on from a seat in the studio audience.” A source at The View tells Cynopsis the decision to leave was not an easy one, and “Brian will be missed. But people here respect his decision to follow his heart with this opportunity, and do what he does best.”

IN THE NEWS

Rentrak struck a deal with Tribune Broadcasting to provide the company with its local market ratings services for all Tribune Broadcasting television stations. Rentrak has been furnishing ratings information to Tribune’s stations in Cleveland and Des Moines since 2012, which are renewed in the new pact. “In today’s rapidly changing media landscape, our partnership with Rentrak will provide us with consumer behavior insight from a significant measurement footprint in each market,” said Larry Wert, president of broadcast media for Tribune Broadcasting. “Rentrak’s data will help our stations make more informed decisions and provide our clients with detailed audience viewing information.”

CBS yanked The McCarthys from its Thursday schedule. Originally slated to air tonight and February 12 before a planned hiatus, the show has been replaced with Big Bang Theory reruns. The comedy was averaging 6.79 million total viewers and 1.5 among A18-49; four unaired episodes remain from its order of 15.

BRANDS & ADVERTISING

What do brands want? “More value, whether it’s associated with content, social, or data,” said Jeff Lucas, Viacom Media Networks head of sales, music and entertainment at a panel hosted by the Entertainment, Media, and Communications division of the UJA-Federation of New York. From the buying side, understanding programmatic is top of mind. Marianne Gambelli, Executive Vice President and Chief Investment Officer of Horizon Media, said that her agency had just taken a road trip to discuss the tool with clients. Asked about the changing role of the ad agency when so many brands are producing their own content and dealing directly with their consumers, Gambelli acknowledged, “It’s more evolved. But you need an intermediary to go through it all.”
