Good news, bad news for Bosch fans. Amazon picked up a seventh season of the drama, based on Michael Connelly’s bestselling books, but it will be the series’ last. “I’m proud of what we have accomplished with Bosch and look forward to completing the story in Season 7. It’s bittersweet, but all good things come to an end, and I am happy that we will be able to go out the way we want to,” said Connelly.
Former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer is getting his own cable news show, Spicer & Co., on Newsmax TV, beginning Tuesday, March 3 at 6p. Running weekdays, the show will feature Spicer leading an ensemble of Washington insiders, experts and journalists as they analyze the day’s headlines.
Meanwhile, Hope Hicks is departing her post as EVP and Chief Communications Officer for Fox Corporation and returning to the White House. White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham announced that Hicks will be working for Jared Kushner’s offices as counselor to the president and senior advisor.
Chance the Rapper will host Nickelodeon’s Kids Choice Awards 2020, broadcasting live from Inglewood, CA on Sunday, March 22 at 7:30p. Leading the nominations pack are Avengers: Endgame with 11; Taylor Swift with five; and Frozen 2, Henry Danger and Lil Nas X with four each.
John Rood is leaving his post as SVP, Marketing for Disney Channels Worldwide after three and a half years, and a 14-year combined tenure at the Walt Disney Company. “I am looking forward to devoting more time and energy towards charitable good works in addition to exploring other ways to innovate in the fast-changing media business,” Rood said.

Emilio Estvez is lacing up his skates again as Coach Bombay in the new Disney+ original series The Mighty Ducks. Based on the ‘90s hit franchise, the 10-episode series will premiere later this year on the streaming service, with Estevez also serving as executive producer.
Live PD: Wanted was renewed for a second season by A&E, a day after the arrest of Melody Bannister by the U.S. Marshals Office and the Hendricks County (IN) Sheriff’s Office. Produced by MGM’s Big Fish Entertainment, the show’s new season premieres Thursday, February 27 at 9p.
Also coming back for Season 2 will be HBO’s Avenue 5. The comedy series, which kicked off its first season on January 19, is set 40 years in the future when traveling the solar system is no longer a sci-fantasy, but a booming multibillion-dollar business.
UCP is moving forward with dark comedy The Resort from Andy SIara, writer of Sundance breakout Palm Springs, and Sam Esmail’s Esmail Corp, which is under a deal with UCP. Anonymous Content is producing the series, which will be shopped to premium and streaming platforms.
ABC issued a pilot order to Home Economics, a family comedy from Michael Colton and John Aboud (Penguins Of Madagascar), Lionsgate TV and Eric and Kim Tannenbaum’s studio-based Tannenbaum Company. Inspired by Colton’s, project centers on three adult siblings: one in the 1%, one middle class and one barely holding on. Home Economics was originally set up at FOX, last development season.
Painless Productions struck an overall deal with producer/director/showrunner Rob Saffi. Saffi, who served as a showrunner for the company’s Travel Channel series The Holzer Files, will now collaborate with Painless on two new projects for the network. Under the pact’s terms, Saffi will also showrun, develop and produce unscripted series with a focus on paranormal and mystery programming.
Elisabeth Shue is set as a co-lead opposite Julie Delpy in Netflix dramedy On the Verge, a co-production between Canal+ and Netflix, reports Deadline. Shue will serve as an EP on the series alongside Delpy. Created by Delpy and written by Delpy and Alexia Landeau, project focuses on four female friends in their late forties.
WE tv announced new series Waka & Tammy: What the Flocka, premiering Thursday, March 12 at 10p. Produced by Entertainment One, the show centers on Waka Flocka Flame and his wife Tammy Rivera as they navigate their renewed commitment to their relationship, following their time on Marriage Boot Camp: Hip Hop edition.
HBO Max is developing Adam Silvera’s bestselling novel More Happy Than Not, from Drew Comins’ Creative Engine Entertainment and eOne where the company is under an overall deal, as a one hour series, reports Deadline. Comins and Silvera will serve as EPs on the project.

Supermarket Stakeout is back for a second season on Tuesday, March 17 at 10p. The Food Network hit, hosted by Alex Guarnaschelli, features four talented chefs, who ambush shoppers and bid on their grocery bags without knowing what’s inside, in hopes of winning a cooking battle.
Gold Rush: Parker’s Trail travels to Australia for its fourth season, debuting Friday, March 13 at 8p on Discovery.

The goal of the free promo is to encourage viewers to subscribe or re-subscribe to Netflix to watch the sequel, To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You, which was released February 12.

Roku’s fourth quarter revenue for 2019, $411.2 million, was up 49%, driven by a 71% pop in advertising revenue. The streaming media player and platform company said it added a record 4.6 million incremental active streaming accounts in Q4, ending 2019 with 36.9 million active accounts (up 36% year-over-year). Streaming hours increased by 16.3 billion over last year, up 68% year-over-year to a record 40.3 billion in 2019.
Roku is flexing its muscles with big media companies. After analyzing the results of Nielsen’s latest Total Audience Report, Needham analysts Laura Martin and Dan Medina concluded that Roku is a “winning aggregator” in the domestic streaming wars, while giving an “underperform” rating to Netflix. The pair believe Netflix is at an increasing disadvantage as a subscription-based video-on-demand service, because there is significantly greater demand for Roku and other free advertising-supported AVODs.
Apple filed a patent for a system that could detect smart home devices and potentially configure them. It would make connecting all smart things easier by automatically detecting a new smart device, what room it’s in, and authenticating it for users.
Google closed a $2.6 billion deal to acquire data analytics startup Looker. Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, noted in a blog post that the analytic arm would continue to support multiple cloud vendors beyond Google. “Google Cloud and Looker share a common philosophy around delivering open solutions and supporting customers wherever the are – be it on Google Cloud, in other public clouds, or on premises. As ore organizations adopt a multi-cloud strategy, Looker customers and partners can expect continued support of all cloud data management systems like Amazon Redshift, Azure SQL, Snowflake, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server and Teradata,” said Kurian.
Verizon Media is teaming with digital out of home marketplace VIOOH to bring the digital assets of JCDeaux into its DSP. The partnership gives advertisers access to new DOOH inventory through Verizon Media’s unified DSP for campaigns across video, mobile, display, native, connected TV, audio and DOOH. The inventory will be available in over 60 cities across seven countries.

HGTV Canada is introducing Corus Studios original series, Family Home Overhaul, on Sunday, April 26 at 10p. Viewers will get a first look at the show with a special sneak peek on Sunday, April 19, during the season finale of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.
French animation and distribution company Dandeloo announced sales for 2D animation series Stinky Dog. Onboard to give the show a home are China’s digital distribution and IP management company Jesten Huashi, children’s Spanish pay-TV channel Canal Panda and Danish public broadcaster DR TV. The series follows the adventures of maverick mutt Stinky Dog and his best friend Flatty Cat. |
