HBO is developing a half-hour series based on the Adam Silvera book They Both Die At the End, with JJ Abrams and Chris Kelly, creator of The Other Two. Series is set in the near-future where everyone receives a bureaucratic phone call notifying them it is the start of their last day on earth.
USA Network gave a straight-to-series order to Brave New World, based on the 1932 Aldous Huxley novel about a dystopian society that prohibits such elements as monogamy, privacy, money and family. The series adaptation for the project, which hails from Universal Content Productions and Amblin Television, was written by David Wiener (Homecoming), Grant Morrison (Happy!) and Brian Taylor (Happy!). Brave New World previously had been in development at sister net Syfy.
Kapital Entertainment sunk its teeth into a production partnership with The Vampire Diaries alum Paul Wesley and his Citizen Media production house. First two series the new team will debut are a drama based on Jason Smith’s article Confessions of a Drug-Addicted High School Teacher – Wesley is attached to star and David Slade (Black Mirror) will direct – and crime drama Possessed, based on a Korean format.
A TV adaptation of the quartet of fantasy novels by Michael Moorcock is in development at BBC Studios, which secured rights to all four books in the series: The Jewel in the Skull, The Mad God’s Amulet, Sword of the Dawn and The Runestaff. The books detail a resistance force trying to bring down a tyrannical ruler.

Desus Nice and The Kid Mero welcome fellow Bronx native Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) as the first guest on the new Showtime late-night talk show Desus & Mero. Series premieres Thursday, February 21 at 11p.

A three-part reunion of Real Housewives of New Jersey is headed to Bravo beginning Wednesday, February 20 at 9p. Host Andy Cohen will sit down with Teresa Giudice, Melissa Gorga, Margaret Josephs, Dolores Catania, Jennifer Aydin, and Jackie Goldschneider as they reflect on a season of new friendships, new frenemies and old family wounds. The Handmaid’s Tale author Margaret Atwood and #MeToo founder and activist Tarana Burke will be feted as vanguards at the VH1 Trailblazers Honors, which will air on VH1 and Logo at 9p Friday, March 8, which happens to be International Women’s Day and kickoff of Women’s History Month.

Netflix’s VP, international originals Europe/Turkey/Africa Kelly Luegenbiehl predicted steady international growth for the streamer in coming years at the European Film Market in Berlin. “We plan to scale our investment in global series to match that growth. It’s still early days but there is a lot of momentum internally for building out our international series,” she said. Netflix’s global subscribership is close to 140 million.
Digital sports video platform SendtoNews (STN) entered a multiyear digital partnership with NASCAR Digital Media under which STN receives rights to distribute NASCAR race highlights and other event content to its more than 1,600 digital publishing partners across North America. When it comes to jobs, it’s not just about the money. The Cynopsis Salary Survey also looked at benefits, and found that versus last year, family leave benefits are more prevalent, predominantly due to an increase in paternity leave. Fifty-nine percent of respondents said their company provides maternity leave; 42% also permit paternity leave. Additional family care is noted by less than one in ten respondents – 7% of employees report childcare and 5% note elder- care benefits.
