Univision Communications warned viewers on Friday of an “unfortunate impasse” in carriage negotiations with Charter Communications. “Despite Univision’s many attempts to resolve the dispute by offering good-faith settlement solutions, Charter has rejected all of Univision’s efforts,” said Univision in a statement. “Univision has no choice but to inform Charter’s customers that they may lose access to Univision’s networks and stations. Univision is committed to continuing to fight for the dignity and value of our community in the marketplace and the important role we play in providing a voice for Hispanic America during these uncertain times.” At issue is whether Charter should pay the carriage rates it negotiated with Univision, or honor the lower rates that had been agreed to by Time Warner Cable, acquired by Charter in May. “We have a contract with Univision and expect them to honor it,” said Charter.

NBC is looking at inserting Megyn Kelly, fresh off her star turn at Fox News and now signed with Team Peacock, into one of Today’s hours, according to Variety. If a Kelly show aired at 10a, third hour hosts Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb would move to 9a, said Variety’s source. The 9a hour is now filled by Al Roker and Tamron Hall; Billy Bush’s brief hosting gig ended with the emergence of that Access Hollywood outtake tape.
Are you ready for Megyn Kelly in the morning? Let us know in the new Cynopsis poll.
A letter to new FCC chairman Ajit Pai from House Republicans asks to toss a Tom Wheeler-era proposal that would require cable and satellite providers to make TV programs available to subscribers through apps. While consumer advocates applauded the proposal, which could save consumers set-top-box rental fees, it poses “an unnecessary regulatory threat to the content creation and distribution industries,” said members of the Committee on Energy and Commerce in their letter.
Estrella TV talent competition Tengo Talento, Mucho Talento has added Grammy-nominated Regional Mexican recording star Joss Favela to the panel of celebrity judges. Now in its season, the show airs Monday-Friday at 8p.
Nielsen’s Total Content Ratings, aimed at consolidating all viewer measurement, will get a limited commercial release on March 1. “Publishers will be able to use their own data – but not competitive data – externally,” Jessica Hogue, SVP of product leadership, told Television Daily. Right now, data is evaluated internally.
