Fox News Channel isn’t going it alone for Thursday’s Republican presidential primary debate in Des Moines Google’s along for the ride. The event will incorporate real-time Google trends and data, and allow viewers to determine some questions for the candidates. Moderators are Bret Baier, Megyn Kelly and Chris Wallace, the same crew that manned the FNC August GOP debate that averaged 24 million viewers.
The five co-hosts of daily talk show The Real trekked to D.C. this week to interview First Lady Michelle Obama about the “Better Make Room” campaign, aimed at inspiring students to make room for higher education. Episode is slated for Tuesday, January 26 (check local listings).
In its latest environmental effort, The Screen Actors Guild is going even greener by partnering with American Forests to plant a tree for every attendee at the 22nd Annual SAG Awards, to enhance the LARiverWorks restoration project. Crashing landed at HBO with a series order. Judd Apatow, who directed the pilot, and Pete Holmes exec produce, with Holmes starring as a couch-surfing comedian.
Logo ordered two new series and renewed a third. Sketch comedy series Gay Skit Happens, produced by Brian Graden Media, is slated to premiere Monday, February 8 at 10p, followed by Gay for Play Game Show Starring RuPaul, produced by World of Wonder Productions, in spring 2016. Back for season three: Cocktails & Classics, date TBD.
Nat Geo and Lightbox have partnered for LA 92 (wt), a documentary using personal footage, news archives and testimony to tell the story of the 1992 Los Angeles riots. “The images of a lawless Los Angeles on fire, anarchy and violence in the streets are still etched in the memory of anyone who lived through it. Now, with the context, perspective and insight that 25 years of hindsight affords us – and the reputation for access and integrity that the National Geographic brand can provide – there is no better time to tell this story in the way it has always deserved to be told, from the point of view of those involved,” said Simon Chinn and Jonathan Chinn, executive producers and co-founders of Lightbox.
Also on Nat Geo: Emmy Award-winning director Marina Zenovich (Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired) will direct and exec produce feature documentary Parched, about the global water crisis. In addition, the net is partnering with director Brett Morgen (On the Ropes) on an untitled doc about primatologist Dr. Jane Goodall. Both films will have theatrical release as well as air globally on the Nat Geo channels in 171 countries.
A live action/CGI animation imaginary friend comedy from Disney animator Patrick Osborne and The Goldbergs’ Adam F. Goldberg, David Guarascio, Happy Madison and Sony Pictures Television got a pilot order from ABC.
Academy- and Emmy- Award nominated director Lesli Linka Glatter (Mad Men) will direct the second episode of History’s new military action drama Six. Why the shout-out? “Not only is she an incredible talent,” said Jana Bennett, president and GM of the network, “but A+E Networks has been a leader in providing more behind-the-camera opportunities for gifted female storytellers and incorporating her voice in a male-dominated landscape is vital to the success of the series.”
Action drama Time got a pilot order from NBC. Show from Sony Pictures Television and Davis Entertainment follows time travelers battling a master criminal.
Sherri Shepherd (The View) will host and exec produce season two of WE tv dating reality show Match Made in Heaven. Season one was host-less.
Who needs the NFL? Viewers of American Heroes Channel can get their fill of Cowboys and Patriots this weekend, with nary a quarterbacks in sight. The net’s “Western Week” culminates with the premiere of two-part special The Cowboy on Saturday, January 23 at 9p, and back-to-back airings of Patriots Rising: The American Revolution on Sunday, January 24 beginning at 12p. “AHC has covered some of the most iconic rivalries of all time,” said Henry Schleiff, group president, ID, AHC and Destination America, “and in that spirit, we’re taking on one of football’s greatest between Tom Brady and Peyton Manning.”
The Africa Channel’s “Know Your Heritage” campaign launches with the TV premiere of Finding Samuel Lowe, about three siblings on a journey to find the descendants of a Chines grandfather, on Sunday, January 31. Follow-up feature Tracing History: The Lowe Family Journey will run on theafricachannel.com. Programming will also include an Instagram contest about the importance of knowing your heritage, and interstitials showing celebrity DNA test reveals that determine ancestral origins in Africa.
The final season of Stanley on the Go premieres on RLTV Tuesday, January 26 at 10p. The adventure travel series’ irrepressible host, Stanley Siegel, died January 2 at age 79 during post-production of the last episode.
Hulu snatched one-hour special Triumph the Insult Comic Dog in an exclusive deal with Funny or Die. Available to the service’s subscribers starting in early February, the show is exec produced by Robert Smigel, Conan O’Brien, Charlie Siskel and FoD’s Mike Farah and Anna Wenger.
Sony Movie Channel celebrates the Oscars on Sunday, February 28 with 1985’s Murphy’s Romance, starring Academy Award nominee James Garner and 1997’s As Good as it Gets, featuring Jack Nicholson and Helen Hunt, who took home the gold for their roles.
Preachers of Atlanta makes its debut on Oxygen Wednesday, February 3 at 10p. In this iteration of the reality franchise, the methods of men and women of the cloth include using hip hop to communicate spiritual messages, and venturing into the city to find those in need.
Megachurch drama Greenleaf launches with a two-night premiere on OWN Tuesday, May 24 and Wednesday, May 25 at 10p, before settling into its regular Wednesday slot. The series from Craig Wright (Lost) and Lionsgate Television features the return to scripted television of Oprah Winfrey, also an exec producer.
Univision has its first whodunit-style thriller with El Hotel de los Secretos (The Hotel of Secrets), launching Monday, January 25 at 10p. Drama set in early 20th century Mexico is an adaptation of a series from Spain.
UniMas is also set to unleash new drama. On Tuesday, January 26 at 9p comes Lady, La Vendora de Rosa (Lady, the Rose Seller), following a flower vendor discovered by a film director, whose life takes a tragic turn.
“Losing it for love” is the theme of TLC’s Fat Chance, following eight people hoping to transform their lives. Series bows Wednesday, February 17 at 10p.
Nickelodeon’s Hawaii-set adventure competition Paradise Run premieres Monday, February 1 at 7p. The 20-episode daily series features kids competing on an exotic resort.
Reality star Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi and husband Jionni Lavalle undertake a massive home renovation starting Wednesday, February 24 at 9p on FYI’s Nicole & Jionni’s Shore Flip. The Jersey shore, of course.
TiVo Research announced plans to integrate its data into the Oracle Data Cloud, with an eye toward increasing the ability for advertisers to reach and measure particular television audiences on their digital devices, and help networks measure the impact of digital campaigns on viewership. “Advertisers are always looking for ways to expand their reach to their target audience regardless of screen,” Tara Maitra, TiVo’s SVP, GM Content & Media Sales, tells Cynopsis. “This new partnership with Oracle gives marketers more choices and flexibility on how to find their audiences on TV, mobile or online.”
Sweet news for touchdown dancers: Candy maker Nestle announced it will cover up to $50,000 in fines for “excessive celebration” by players in the final games of the season. The offer is part of the company’s “Bolder than Bold” Butterfinger campaign. Billy on the Street host Billy Eichner and former NFLer Terrell Owens announced the news.
A letter signed by 168 lawmakers pressed FCC chairman Tom Wheeler to compel donors of political ads to identify themselves. “In today’s political reality of non-stop campaigning, our system continues to fail the American people by allowing special interests and shadow groups to flood our airwaves with anonymous ads, with no disclosure whatsoever,” read the letter from House Democrats. An agency spokesperson said the letter being reviewed.
Nissan is steering clear of the Super Bowl. “It’s not the ongoing experience that we want to create,” said spokesperson Jeannie White. “Our new involvement with college sports is far-reaching rather than being a one-time event. And it also allows us to bring in our local retailers to participate.” Last year, the car company returned to the big game after 18 years.

FremantleMedia acquired a 51 per cent majority stake in Israeli production company Abot Hameiri, which has produced local versions of shows like The X Factor, Survivor and Amazing Race as well as developing its own formats.
Sky and CBS Corp. struck a long-term licensing agreement making Sky Atlantic the exclusive home for Showtime programming across all its territories in the UK, Ireland, Germany, Austria and Italy. Previously, Sky licensed Showtime content from CBS on a program-by-program basis. The deal includes all new and future series.
Entertainment One sold natural history series David Attenborough’s The Great Barrier Reef to CBC in Canada, to air Thursdays at 9p beginning January 28. Episodes rerun on the following Sundays at 7p on the Documentary Channel beginning January 31.
Marilyn Manson has joined WGN America’s supernatural thriller Salem in a special guest starring role. The singer, who collaborated on the show’s opening title sequence, will play a barber/surgeon. Production on season three began Thursday in Shreveport, LA.

Fox’s Second Chance scored 1.0/3 among A18-49 on Wednesday, a 16% dip from week one. CBS freshman Code Black (1.4/5) had a 17% bump week to week.
Monday’s premiere of VH1 drama Hit the Floor delivered a 1.1 rating among A18-49 and 1.7 million viewers for its 9p debut, ratcheting up to 2.5 million counting the 11p encore. The show was the number one non-sports cable program at 9p among A18-34, W18-34 and W18-49.

Food Network’s Kids Baking Championship posted a .8 rating across A25-54 on Monday, up 69% versus year-ago, and a .6 rating among A25-34, up 32% and ranking #6 for both demos across the time slot for the nets’ highest rated Monday 8p hour ever. Cake Wars posted a .7 rating among A25-54, up 27% versus year-ago and a .7 rating among A25-34, up 63%.
Tuesday A18-49 Analysis: CBS delivered the most A18-49 viewers Tuesday with 1.8/6, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen.
