Sunday’s Golden Globe Awards on NBC earned a 5.0 ratings among A18-49 and 19 million viewers, down 11% in the demo and 5% in viewers versus last year. (But, Oprah!)
Airing opposite the Golden Globes coverage didn’t hurt ABC’s America’s Funniest Home Videos, setting new season highs of 6.0 million total viewers (+30%) and 1.4/4 among A18-49 (+40%), or Shark Tank, drawing 4.7 million viewers (up +27%) and 1.3/4 (up +44%) in the demo.
Grown-ish ranked as Freeform’s biggest series launch in 2 years among Total Viewers (1.56 million), A18-49 (917,000/.71), W18-49 (658,000/1.01), W18-34 (340,000/.98) and F12-34 (448,000/.96).
The series premiere of Fox’s 9-1-1 delivered 10.5 million 3-day multi-platform total viewers and gained +50% in Live+3 viewing among A18-49 (to 2.7/10), ranking as the highest-rated Wednesday premiere in all of television in over a year.
HGTV’s Restored by the Fords averaged a .75 rating among P25-54 on Tuesday, January 2, making it the #1 cable program at 10p among upscale W25-54, A18-49 and W18-49.
Concluding its best year in network history, Investigation Discovery ended 2017 as the #1 network in ad-supported cable for the delivery of W25-54, #2 for P25-54 and #7 for P2+ in total day. This was ID’s best year in prime delivery for P2+ (1.089 million); HH (896,000); P25-54 (440,000); W25-54 (296,000); P18-49 (345,000) and W18-49 (229,000).
Velocity wound up 2017 with its most-watched year ever in Primetime among P/M25-54, P.M18-49, P/M18+ and P2+, its most-watched Primetime quarter in network history and best month ever in key demos.
Discovery wrapped 2017 as cable’s #1 network among M25-54 (excluding sports), with cable’s #1 and #2 scripted series across 4 nights of the week among M25-54 and M18-49. Street Outlaws topped the cable chart among M18-34.
The last 3 months of 2017 gave Hallmark Channel all-time highs, including its most-watched and highest-rated day, week, month, and quarter in network history. Hallmark beat broadcast nets on Saturday nights 8p-10p, with “Countdown to Christmas” original Saturday night premieres averaging 972,000 W25-54 and 4.8 million Total Viewers.
Science Channel had its highest-rated year ever in Primetime among Adults/Men/Women 25-54 and in total viewers P2+ in 2017, closing strong with its highest-rated 4th quarter ever and best December ever. Among A25-54, the net was up +18%.
Katz Networks’ Bounce delivered its highest-rated and fourth consecutive year of growth in both Primetime and Total Day in 2017, with delivery increased that included +10% in Prime in Households. Grit rose in Prime and Total Day, including a +9% lift over 2016 in prime in HHs. Escape was up +13% in Prime HHs, while Laff was up a whopping +60% in HHs.
Univision’s Rey David has reached 15.6 million Total Viewers 2+ since its December 11 premiere, averaging 1.9 million Total Viewers 2+, 790,000 A18-49 and 324,000 A18-34.

EXECUTIVE MOVES
GroupM appointed Nick Theakstone as Global Chief Investment Officer, overseeing the company’s media investments, trading activities and commercial partnerships. Theakstone had been GroupM’s UK CEO.
Martin Keely has been named Executive Vice President, Product and Technology for Disney|ABC Television Group, where he will oversee digital media strategy and products across all non-linear and emerging platforms. Most recently, Keely served as Head of Operations for Activation Blizzard’s Major League Gaming.
Viacom Inc. promoted Fukiko Ogisu to Executive Vice President and Chief People Officer. In the newly created role, Ogisu will manage the company’s human resources organization and associated functions, as well as oversee Viacom’s security services.
Digital marketing agency iCrossing appointed Jeff Ratner to the position of Chief Media Officer, responsible for overseeing iCrossing’s media offering and team across the U.S. Ratner joins from Publicis Media.
Turner’s TBS & TNT promoted Michael Engleman to Chief Marketing Officer, and Marie Moore to Senior Vice President of Communications. Engleman started at TNT and TBS in January, 2016, while Moore arrived in 2015.

Production company Blackfin named Jordan Rosenblum as Senior Vice President of Development. Prior to joining Blackfin, Rosenblum was Vice President of Development at Stephen David Entertainment.
Leanne Passafonti is joining Citizen Skull Productions as Head of Production Development for Animation. Passafonti has worked with and for companies like Nickelodeon, DreamWorks Classics, and Red Kite on award winning and BAFTA nominated shows.
