HBO’s Game of Thrones is getting the royal treatment, with a January 23-39 run on 150 IMAX screens across the country. The last two episodes from season four, remastered for the (very) big screen, will be followed by a full-length trailer for season five, due in April. It’s the first time a TV series will air on an IMAX screen.
CNBC is moving to research firm Cogent Reports to measure its Business Day programming, a switch from Nielsen expected to take place by 4Q15 to monitor an audience that’s not watching from home. “Throughout our 25 year history, traditional measurement companies have struggled to capture CNBC’s audience of business executives, decision makers and affluent investors who watch our network from their corner offices, trading floors, five-star hotel rooms, country clubs, restaurants and health clubs,” said Mark Hoffman, President, CNBC. “We are excited to begin to provide our marketing partners with a more complete understanding of the power and quality of our prestigious audience.”
Cast members and creators of Queer as Folk will reunite ten years after the groundbreaking Showtime drama left the air, for a panel at the ATX Television Festival in Austin. Dawson’s Creek writers room reunion and Gilmore Girls get-together are also on the sked, June 4-7.
Showtime’s giving it away the weekend of Friday, January 9-Sunday, January 11. “Free Preview Weekend” offers over 70 million households the chance to try programming on Showtime, Showtime On Demand, Showtime Anytime and select distributors’ TV Everywhere portals. Samplers can access Homeland, The Affair, Penny Dreadful, Ray Donovan, Masters of Sex and Nurse Jackie, as well as movies including the television premiere of Philomena.
Country music fans will have to get up a little earlier to catch CMT’s weekly Hot 20 Countdown. The compilation of interviews, videos and live performances starts two hours earlier, at 9a on Saturdays, starting January 10.

Mark Gordon is teaming with Entertainment One to form an independent studio that will finance content distributed by eOne, moving his Mark Gordon Company from ABC Studios for the venture. Gordon will serve as CEO. “In order to realize the true value of our content, retention of rights ownership and control of international distribution are musts,” said Gordon. “In eOne, we have found partners that share our vision of supporting the creators and are immersed in the international marketplace with great ambitions to expand in the U.S. Together, we are building an alternative to the traditional studio way.”
ABC Family greenlit two single camera comedy pilots set to go into production this month. Kevin From Work, about a young man who professes his love to a co-worker mistakenly thinking he’s moving overseas, is written, created and exec produced by Barbie Adler (How I Met Your Mother); Tough Cookie, from writer/creator/exec producer Lauren Iungerich (Awkward) focuses on a young mother not ready to be a parent. “Single-camera comedies represent an evolution of our comedy brand,” said Karey Burke, EVP, programming and development.
New eps of GSN’s Idiotest launch tonight at 8p, followed by the series premiere of Jerry Springer-hosted Baggage on the Road, a comedic dating game show spin-off of the net’s Baggage.
Cuteness overload: Animal Planet’s Puppy Bowl XI premieres Sunday, February 1 at 3p, with Team Ruff competing against Team Fluff. The action repeats all day and night, with a scoreboard offering fans real-time updates; fantasy leaguers can check team stats and vote in the Most Valuable Puppy poll. Sponsors include Pedigree Food for Dogs, Subaru of America, Bissell, Twizzlers, Geico and Paramount and Nickelodeon Movies Present The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water.
Up premiere movie Like a Country Song, about an up-and-coming country singer, features Billy Ray Cyrus (Achy Breaky Heart) as the singer’s missing father. There’s a music video offering a peek at the action (spoiler alert: no mullet), premiering Sunday, January 11 at 7p.
Dogs find out who’s boss in Nat Geo WILD special Cesar Millan: Viva Las Vegas!. The two-hour special chronicling one of the master’s live stage shows premieres Friday, February 20 at 9p, a week before the season two launch of Cesar 911.
Come for the celebs, stay for the food. Cooking’s Dinner at Tiffani’s launches Wednesday, February 25 at 10p, with the Beverly Hills, 90210 alum hosting intimate dinner parties for famous pals.
It’s all about the Blake: The Voice’s Blake Shelton will make his Saturday Night Live bow on January 24, as both host of the NBC sketch show and musical guest. SNL is back with new season 40 shows January 17, with Kevin Hart and musical guest Sia.
ID special Hate in America premieres Monday, February 23 at 8p. Al Jazeera America anchor Tony Harris partners with The Southern Poverty Law Center and NBC News’s Peacock Productions to expose the realities of intolerance in a country with 900 active hate groups. “I can’t imagine anyone being unaffected by these powerful testimonials,” said Harris.
Carrie Fisher will present the Life Achievement Award to her mother, Debbie Reynolds at the 21st Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, for career and humanitarian accomplishments. Ceremony will be simulcast live on TNT and TBS on Sunday, January 25 at 8p.
Ben Affleck will receive the third People’s Choice Award for Favorite Humanitarian during CBS’s telecast tonight. The Oscar winner is being honored for his work with Eastern Congo Initiative. Past winners include Sandra Bullock and Jennifer Hudson.
Add Robert Downey, Jr., Kevin Hart and Gwyneth Paltrow to the list of presenters at the 72nd Annual Golden Globes Awards. They join Amy Adams, Adrien Brody, Anna Faris, Ricky Gervais, Salma Hayek, Kate Hudson, Chris Pratt, Channing Tatum, Lily Tomlin, Kristen Wiig, Owen Wilson and Catherine Zeta-Jones. The Tina Fey/Amy Poehler-hosted event airs Sunday, January 11 at 8p on NBC.
HBO’s Girls landed a season five renewal ahead of its season four premiere on Sunday, January 11 at 9p. Programming president Michael Lombardo made the announcement at an NYC screening of the season four opener on Monday.
IFC’s Comedy Bang! Bang! is back for round four Friday, January 9 at 11p – and the net promises “a season so packed with guest stars that an epic trailer was absolutely necessary.”
Dish Nation was renewed through 2016-2017 by Fox Television Stations. The daily half-hour entertainment news program is averaging 1.42 million viewers this season, up 10 percent over the same period a year ago. “The challenge in covering entertainment news/pop culture is doing it differently,” said Frank Cicha, SVP of programming for FTS.“This year, Dish has raised the bar on what it’s good at – honest, ethnically diverse, unapologetic and often very funny takes on this stuff. We see it as a show with big upside, and audiences in our key time periods and upgrades have backed us up.”
ITV’s Broadchurch returned for season two on Monday to 7.6 million viewers, up 800,000 from its first bow. The series arrives on BBC America on Wednesday, March 4. A remake of the crime drama, Gracepoint, had a limited run on Fox last year.
Buick has signed on as the exclusive launch partner for several digital extensions of Bravo culinary competitions series Best New Restaurant, launching Wednesday, January 21 at 10p. Included: companion video series Secret Service will follow the linear premiere, at 11p on BravoTV.com, while “Social Snaps” aggregate social and editorial conversation around the competitors, host and judge Tom Colicchio, diners and Buick into one destination.

Season five of Downton Abbey premiered on PBS to 10.1 million viewers Sunday, just short of its U.S. viewership high of 10.2 million for the season four debut.
Season 19 of ABC’s The Bachelor debuted to a premiere low 7.7 million viewers and 2.2/7 among A18-49 on Monday, but viewers liked what they saw the show had a 10 percent lift in total viewers and 20 percent in A18-49 from its first to its third hour.
Fox’s Gotham topped the A18-49 chart Monday night with 2.5/7, up 9 percent from its last original airing in November.
ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live ended 2014 up over 4Q13 by 5 percent in total viewers, hitting a new fourth quarter high in viewers (2.78 million) for the third straight year.
For 4Q14, CBS This Morning had its best viewer delivery in the morning in 21 years (up 6 percent, to 3.23 million), and added 190,000 viewers versus 3Q13.
The season two premiere of Discovery’s Alaskan Bush People on Friday delivered a record 1.66 P25-54, up 80 percent versus the series premiere on May, with 3.13 million total viewers P2+, up 76 percent versus the series premiere.
CBS’s 2 Broke Girls, Mike & Molly and NCIS: Los Angeles delivered their largest audiences of the season and matched or beat season-best demos on Monday. All three were first in viewers for the night in their time periods. Scorpion, the most-watched program of the night with 12.09 million viewers, had its largest audience since September 29.
Face the Nation posted its largest fourth quarter audience (3.38 million) since the advent of people meters (1987-1988) and matched the three prior fourth quarters in A25-54 (.8/4), according to Nielsen 4Q14 data.
Golf Channel was the most-affluent ad-supported television network in both total day and primetime, according to Nielsen, with both the highest median income and percentage of audience earning more than $100k.
DIY had its highest-rated and most-watched year ever among viewers P25-54, posting an 8 percent boost among P25-54 prime impressions over 2013 and over 3.9 million viewers on average tuning in to primetime each week. Building Alaska was the top-rated program for the network, growing 67 percent versus its first season.
