Major League Soccer locked in its 2018 schedule, which will now include the addition ot the Los Angeles Football Club. The season kicks off on March 3 with clubs each playing 34 games overall, running into the Audi 2018 MLS Cup Playoffs on Oct. 31 and running through MLS Cup on Dec. 8. In addition, the schedule will include a nine-day World Cup break running June 14-22, as more than two dozen MLS players represent their squads in Russia.

CBS Sports booked its talent lineup for the AFC Playoffs. According to The Boston Globe, top broadcasting team of Jim Nantz, Tony Romo and Tracy Wolfson will head to Foxboro to call the Patriots game during the Divisional Round on Jan. 13 while Ian Eagle and Dan Fouts will call Pittsburgh game on Jan. 14. 
 
ESPN reports that New Year’s Day delivered the network with its second most-watched day in the history of the channel. Based on official Nielsen-reported statistics, Jan. 1 drew an average of 6,011,000 viewers who watched ESPN during a full 24-hour span, driven by the College Football Semifinals. Overall, New Year’s Weekend on ESPN’s networks drew 96.1 million fans who consumed its college football related content between Dec. 29-Jan. 1, watching 28.6 billion minutes of content.
 
In other ratings news, MLB Network scored 6% growth in primetime in 2017 versus 2016, per Nielsen’s final full year audience numbers. The figure ties MLB Network for the second-most growth in prime time over all cable sports networks.
 
Meanwhile, ESPN’s telecast of the Celtics victory over the Cavaliers on Wednesday delivered a 2.4 metered market rating to the network, according to Nielsen. That matches two Christmas telecasts as the highest-rated NBA regular season game on ESPN in nearly two years and is up 60% from a 1.5 rating for last year’s comparable game.

Back to football, NBC’s coverage of the 18th annual US Army All-American Bowl begins Saturday at 1p from the Alamodome in San Antonio. Paul Burmeister will serve as play-by-play announcer, joined by analyst and former NFL defensive lineman Anthony Herron, analyst Ross Tucker, and reporters Lewis Johnson and Marty Snider. In addition, Bart Simmons of 247Sports will contribute information on prep players and collegiate team recruiting rankings.
 
NBC Olympics announced that more than 20 members of Golf Channel and NBC Sports’ golf teams – both in front of and behind the camera – will contribute to NBC Olympics’ coverage of the XXIII Olympic Winter Games from PyeongChang, South Korea. Among the names heading to South Korea will be David Feherty, Damon Hack and Rich Lerner, who will all be making their NBC Sports’ Winter Games debuts, joining fellow Golf Channel personalities Heather Cox, Terry Gannon, Dan Hicks, Jimmy Roberts, and Steve Sands in PyeongChang.
 
ESPN detailed Spring Training plans for its 2018 MLB coverage, with every team from the 2017 MLB Postseason on the docket. The action begins on Mar. 21, at 1p when the Astros visit the Nationals on ESPN2. The next day sees the Yankees/Twins at 1p on the channel, followed on March 23 by Red Sox/Yankees on ESPN with the Cubs/Red Sox on Mar. 27 at 1p on the channel.
 
BTN and BTN Originals announced First Dance, which chronicles the 2016-17 Northwestern men’s basketball season and will debut on Jan. 23 at 11p following NU’s game against Minnesota on BTN. The documentary takes an inside look at the Wildcats’ “resilience, struggles and triumphs en route to the first NCAA Tournament berth in program history.”

The Peach Belt Conference is partnering up with Riot Games, creator of League of Legends, to establish the Peach Belt League of Legends championship for the spring of 2018. The deal marks the first NCAA conference to compete as part of the College League of Legends season. The PBC will hold its first College League of Legends regular season competition this month with eight teams advancing to the Peach Belt League of Legends championship, an in-person tournament in March. The champion and finalist from that tournament will earn spots in the College Championship Play-In, with the opportunity to advance to the League of Legends College Championship, held in June at Riot’s NA LCS Arena in Los Angeles.
 
Hi-Rez Expo 2018 revealed new elements for the studios’ two key esports franchises – Paladins and SMITE. The company announced that SMITE’s Season 5 will launch with the biggest art and gameplay change ever as the Season 5 Conquest Map features upgraded art and new, highly requested gameplay changes to the premier 5v5 game mode along with the 93rd playable character, Cerberus. Paladins will receive a new Battle Royale gamemode with Paladins: Battlegrounds serving as the first-ever hero-shooter battle royale.
