IN THE NEWS
Renovation series “Home Work” has been yanked from just-launched cable net Magnolia Network. The move follows allegations of shoddy work, unsafe conditions, soaring budgets and lack of communication by former clients of Utah-based hosts Andy and Candis Meredith. “Magnolia Network is aware that certain homeowners have expressed concerns about renovation projects undertaken by Candis and Andy Meredith. Within the last few days, we have learned additional information about the scope of these issues, and we have decided to remove ‘Home Work’ from the Magnolia Network line up pending a review of the claims that have been made,” said network President Allison Page. “Home Work” debuted in July on discovery+, with Magnolia’s digital launch. Responded the Merediths to client complaints, “We can only say that there are two sides to every story.”
Amid soaring Covid-19 cases, NATPE has canceled its 2022 in-person conference, which had been scheduled to take place in Miami January 18-20. “Although this decision from a financial point of view will cost the organization a great deal of money, that was secondary to our primary concern, which is to put the welfare of our members first,” said JP Bommel, NATPE President and CEO. “We put a great deal of safety protocols in place, but it is just not enough given the intensity of this virus.” NATPE is in the process of developing a plan to create both virtual and in-person events throughout the year.
Prime Video has canceled “I Know What You Did Last Summer” after one season. The YA horror series was a refresh of the 1973 novel and 1997 slasher film.
Disney and Pixar’s “Turning Red” will premiere exclusively on Disney+ on Friday, March 11, rather than debut in theaters. “Given the delayed box office recovery, particularly for family films, flexibility remains at the core of our distribution decisions,” said Kareem Daniel, Chairman, Disney Media & Entertainment Distribution. In international markets where Disney+ is not yet available, the film will be released theatrically.
Discovery shares rose 17% on Friday, after a Bank of America analyst upgraded the company from “neutral” to “buy.” Raved Jessica Reif Ehrlich of the company’s planned $43 billion merger with WarnerMedia, “Under the right management—which we believe Warner Bros. Discovery has/will have—the combination of these highly complementary assets, has the potential to create a global media powerhouse driven by creative and content leadership. As a combined entity, we believe Warner Bros. Discovery has the potential to be the most dynamic global media company.”

Women face a unique challenge in today’s financial environment, notes Jennifer Halloran, Head of Brand and Advertising at MassMutual. “They remain vastly underserved and underinsured, often because the subject, as it is for everyone, is so daunting.
