01/04/19: The NFL is ready to gamble on a deal with Caesars

In a deal that does not yet include gambling or fantasy sports, thanks to the issue of consistent nationwide legalized sports gambling, The National Football League signed a multiyear agreement to make Caesars Entertainment Corp. its first-ever casino partner. Caesars will have exclusive rights to use NFL marks to promote casinos in the U.S. and U.K., for a price tag of close to $30 million a year, according to sources. The agreement follows earlier deals by MGM to gain official status with the NBA and the NHL, but is not as detailed as those partnerships at this stage.
“We couldn’t be more excited to work with one of the world’s largest gaming and entertainment companies,” said Renie Anderson, Senior Vice President, NFL Partnerships, Sponsorship and Consumer Products. “Combining the NFL with Caesars’ expertise in world class entertainment will provide our fans unique experiences both here in the United States and abroad.”
Seven NFL Clubs have relationships with Caesars Entertainment, including the Falcons, Ravens, Bears, Colts, Saints, Raiders and Eagles. Caesars will also host elements of the 2020 Draft in coordination with the City of Las Vegas as another part of the growing partnership.

The Tiger Woods effect helped NBC’s Golf Group cap off a record year. NBC delivered its most-watched PGA TOUR season in 12 years (3.66 million viewers per minute), up 54% vs. comparable coverage in 2017 and +66% for Persons 25-54. Golf Channel’s live PGA TOUR coverage in 2018 was its most-watched ever, up 22% vs. 2017 with average viewers, up 29% with Persons 25-54. Across NBC Sports’ golf coverage, 77 million unique viewers watched Golf Channel or NBC in 2018, +4% vs. 2017. Golf Channel was the No. 1 single-sport network for six months of 2018, and ranked among the top-two for all of 2018. Golf Channel also set best year-ever marks for all key digital metrics in 2018, including minutes streamed, video starts, page views, and monthly unique visitors.
Following their successful 2018 Championship on New Year’s Eve at Madison Square Garden, the Professional Fighters League announced that five million fans globally tuned in via NBC Sports Network, Facebook Watch and other linear broadcast stations across the globe. To date, it was the largest event for the league in terms of viewership numbers.
The YES Network’s new original docu-series, Homegrown:  The Bridge to Brooklyn, offering an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the Brooklyn Nets’ NBA G League affiliate Long Island Nets, will premiere on Saturday, January 5, at 9:00 pm ET.  The format of The Bridge to Brooklyn is similar to that of YES’ Emmy Award-nominated docu-series Homegrown:  Path to Pinstripes.
NBC Sports announced its new on-air talent team for Monster Energy Supercross, which kicks off the ’19 season this weekend in Anaheim. Ralph Sheheen (play-by-play) and Ricky Carmichael (booth analyst) are both making the switch from Fox Sports to NBC, which picked up Supercross and Monster Jam media rights from series owner Feld Entertainment this year. They will be joined by on-track analyst Daniel Blair and pit reporter Will Christien.
The NCAA FCS Football Championship featuring No. 3 Eastern Washington and defending champions No. 1 North Dakota State will air Saturday, Jan. 5, at noon ET on ESPN2 and be available via the ESPN App. Taylor Zarzour, Matt Stinchcomb and Kris Budden will call the action. A Spanish-language presentation of the game airs on ESPN3 with Roger Valdivieso and Alex Pombo on the call.
FOX Sports play-by-play announcer Joe Buck, analyst Troy Aikman, reporter Erin Andrews and rules analyst Mike Pereira will lead FOX Sports’ NFL postseason coverage with exclusive broadcasts of NFC Wildcard, Divisional and Championship games. The lead team begins coverage on Saturday when the NFC East champion Dallas Cowboys host the Seattle Seahawks at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Host and play-by-play announcer Chris Myers joins the lead team, serving as an additional game reporter for the NFC Wild Card matchup.

The PBR opens up its 26th season Friday at Madison Square Garden amid a slew of new partners and news. RidePass, PBR’s new western sports OTT, begins its second year by offering every PBR event in Australia, Brazil, and Canada live and on-demand. It will now be carried by FloSports, as part of a multiyear partnership for FloRodeo.com. More than 150 live events and over 500 hours of PBR and premier western sports live and on-demand RidePass content will be simulcast worldwide on FloRodeo.com, bringing FloSports subscribers an enhanced version of RidePass under the RidePass/Pro brand.
The PBR also announced Monster Energy, title partner for PBR at the Garden for a number of years, has renewed their commitment as the title partner of their premier tour PBR, Unleash the Beast. Ford Trucks renewed its longstanding PBR partnership as well in the U.S., and Jack Daniels and Wrangler, two 25-year sponsors, are returning to the sport.
Serena Williams will launch a year-long marketing campaign for social networking app Bumble, beginning with a message to be delivered during the Super Bowl across multiple platforms. In “The Ball is in Her Court,” Williams will “urge women to make the first move in all aspects of their lives.” Williams helped create the campaign, which was developed and produced entirely by women, and will serve as global adviser to the company.
Japanese coatings manufacturer Nippon Paint has signed a two-season deal to sponsor India’s new Pro Volleyball League. The League is the latest franchise-based competition to launch in India and will stage its inaugural campaign from February 2-22.
Just two weeks into the 2018-19 season, the National Lacrosse League’s deal with Bleacher Report Live as their official broadcast partner is seeing a positive return. Unique viewers are already up 120% from last season, when the deal was first launched, with fans watching an average of 43 minutes of live content. BR is also tweeting live content during NLL matches and is bolstering the partnership through promotion on Turner’s NBA games. 
ESPN’s fifth College Football Playoff National Championship MegaCast will debut multiple new presentations complementing reoccurring viewing options, highlighting the network’s innovation and technology with 17 ways to watch No. 1 Alabama vs. No. 2 Clemson from Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., on Monday, Jan. 7, at 8 p.m. ET.
ESPN will carry the traditional telecast with Monday Night Football Film Room, Field Pass, BlimpCast, and TechCast headlining the new offerings, and Command Center, Sounds of the Game, DataCenter, SkyCam, and Hometown Radio among the presentations returning this year. Overall, the 17 presentations will be available across ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPNEWS, ESPN Classic, SEC Network, ESPN Deportes, ESPN Goal Line, ESPN3, ESPN Radio and ESPN Deportes Radio. With the NASCAR season coming soon, opendorse recapped last year and looked ahead to who to follow in terms of social engagement for 2019.  Kyle Busch led all drivers in engagements (3.9 million) and total video views, with now retired Danica Patrick coming in a close second. Busch and Patrick both sat near the top in nearly every category. The fastest growing driver to watch in social? Daniel Suarez, with just over 140,000 followers.
Canadian tournament organizer SKL Esports has announced a partnership with telecommunications company SaskTel. The two companies are local to each other and will work together with the aim of growing esports’ presence in Saskatchewan, and Canada as a whole. SaskTel will sponsor all of the events that SKL Esports hosts in Saskatchewan throughout 2019.
